But they didn't let that stop them from keeping our business. They connected me with the engineering team and built the platform to be exactly what we needed. It's a very easy-to-use interface and their customer support is top notch. **What do you dislike about Brightcove?** Some of the interactivity and branding of galleries isn't as evolved as I'd like it to be, with limited customization options for galleries. playlists, etc. Would love more out-of-the-box interactivity for videos without have to purchase additional products. Implementing the platform to our website was simple and very customizable and is now controllable through the Brightcove software and our in-house CMS. We use the software to host product videos on our site as well as all of our internal training and communications. Through the use of Brightcove's gallery system, we were able to create multiple dedicated websites to serve different functions. Our customer-facing video library was easy to build and houses all our outward-facing videos, and an internal video library was easily secured behind our single sign-on and has been a massive improvement for our intercompany communications. Brightcove also brings several innovative technical features that have helped us improve our video program. Video interactivity, robust reporting that was easily connected to Google Analytics, and a keyword tagging system that allowed us to create automated playlists have all been stand out features for our team. Their customer representatives and account managers have also been very responsive when helping with any technical problems and always helped find solutions quickly. I highly recommend partnering with Brightcove if you are looking for a solution that brings innovation, excellent customer service, and attention. **What do you dislike about Brightcove?** There is not much that I do not like about the platform overall. I do think that the navigation and folder structure can sometimes be a bit cumbersome, especially as you begin to add hundreds or thousands of video files to the system. It is a manageable problem through the use of the keyword tagging system and the creation of custom folders. I would recommend starting to plan a storage and keyword structure for your files very early in the process before it becomes too overwhelming. **What problems is Brightcove solving and how is that benefiting you?** Brightcove has helped our company to efficiently manage a growing library of video files that are used for many purposes and have come from many places. It gives us a singular solution to manage our entire video program that easily connects to our other software and programs we use for the web. Plus, it's a solution that worked right out of the box and saved our developers massive amounts of work hours versus building an in-house solution. ### 12. I love the UI of the admin site - it feels like true broadcasting software versus a web-based platform. In addition to the UI, I greatly appreciate the relationship I've created with our Account Managers. They have been a great asset in ensuring the overall relationship between FreightWaves and Brightcove stays positive. **What do you dislike about Brightcove?** The only downside of Brightcove is that the system is robust. Understanding the entire software (like how episodes/seasons/series are set up) was the most challenging part of Brightcove. Internally we (I) created a 'How To' document to ensure other people knew how to work the system. **What problems is Brightcove solving and how is that benefiting you?** Brightcove is our full stack Live Stream and VOD hosting platform. Before purchasing the Brightcove Suite, our Live Stream was hosted on one platform, while our VOD content was hosted on another. There are many online resources and documentation to help complete more complex tasks such as integrating your ad server or creating a video playlist. Brightcove's upload and transcoding speed is also very fast and efficient. Brightcove has a great customer support team who are quick to respond and assist with any issues you are encountering. Brightcove stays up-to-date on the latest trends and technology, taking the heavy lifting off your plate. **What do you dislike about Brightcove?** The biggest downside with using Brightcove is the performance of the Brightcove Drupal module that enables you to import and manage videos in Drupal. The module really needs to be updated to better support video libraries with a large volume of videos. The main issue with using it is that it can take 3 hours or more for videos to import to Drupal after uploading to Brightcove. This makes it difficult as a news site to quickly embed related videos into our news articles, which in turn impacts our video views and pre-roll inventory. **What problems is Brightcove solving and how is that benefiting you?** Brightcove takes the heavy lifting off our plate by hosting our videos and enabling content management. If anything goes wrong, you are out of luck. Implementation is a complete disaster, we've worked with them on multiple projects on their Beacon platform, and it has gotten progressively worse. We've had multiple contacts at their company quit mid-implementation and have had products simply not launch because their engineering team cannot fix and validate QA issues that arise. They also hold you, hostage during all of this and leverage you in your renewal. Lastly, their API is insanely basic for an enterprise solution and does not support user information. When brought up to their Product team they offered a 40,000 upsell platform that they acquired that was meager at best. Dreadful performance, poor user interfaces, weak reporting, and extremely limiting functionality from the Admin side of things makes this platform unbearable to use. We've actually bailed out of using the system while still under contract, and have elected to use Youtube instead. Dealing with Brightcove on contract matters is like pulling teeth. They are slow to respond (if they even do) to inquiries, and become even more painful to deal with when you tell them you no longer want to continue using their services. I'm literally paying them for a full year of service and not using them, just to get off the platform because we did not give them 90 days advanced notice that we were opting out of the contract. I then had to get in touch with their legal counsel to amend our contract to no longer list us as an Auto-Renewal each January. I just asked my account rep about simply terminating our account, since we have paid the entire year in full (thousands of dollars), and she said she would need to ask her leadership team about our options, and that she couldn't promise me anything! I've wasted so much time dealing with this company over a poorly performing product that I felt compelled to warn others about them, which is very atypical of me. **Recommendations to others considering Brightcove:** Look for other options. I'm constantly having issues with it. It doesn't give you the ability to search by a video's ID #. WHAT?! Also, sometimes searching partial terms doesn't work, and you have to basically search for a video by typing in it's title word for word. This is especially difficult for me because some of our videos are titled one thing on the site and something a little different on Brightcove. I also wish there was some sort of "history" feature that could show you a timeline of the changes you've recently made to a video.
