## Blackboard Reviews
  ### 1. Easy Course Materials and Training Video Sharing, Though There’s Room to Improve

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Krystal S. | Payroll Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

Using it for courses I find it easy to use and pull up course materials. As an employee I use the media a lot for posting videos on training. We use it for training purposes, FERPA, Title IX training, Hiring processes etc. and I really like how it makes it easy to contract different group around campus.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

Alot of the same content pulls up in difference section which can make it a little confusing to make sure you didn't miss a training.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Training is a big thing for us. Having one spot to put all training from starting as a new employee to how to approve time as mangers is great. Once stop for all resources rather than have multiple training sites.

  ### 2. Sixteen Candles

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 01, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

I have been an LMS administrator and faculty with Blackboard Learn for 16 years, so my answers have some background. I particularly like Blackboard Learn Ultra's intuitive way to populate the course components and the variety of tools available to do it. The instructor or professor can start with a course outline or ask for one from Generative AI; then, populate the outline by adding components from top to bottom. Various components, such as text pages, links, quizzes, and written assignments, can be added. Anything can be revised, augmented, or moved. I also like also the degree of integration that Blackboard has achieved with different providers such as Pearson, Alex, Respondus, etc.; these are easily selected and integrated with the course.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

The visual interface of Blackboard Learn Ultra is poor; the metaphor is like a wall with vertical lines and titles. There is no way of showing the student what is more critical and less, what is a core component of the class, and what is an auxiliary element. The student must open each component in the "wall" to determine what is inside. This should be more intuitive; for instance, use different colors and icons for overview, materials, dialogue, and assessments. The instructor should be able to display in the course map certain videos or interactive resources considered essential, e.g., "the lab", "the meeting room", "the AI advisor". Two very useful assignments of Blackboard Standard were lost: wikis and file-upload questions. The first allowed the creation of student presentations, and the second allowed the inclusion of text, images, sound recordings, or programs as part of of a test. I have also noticed that some back office tools present in Standard have been eliminated or reduced in capability, such as Date Management, Rubrics, Course Analytics, Course Reports, Performance Dashboard, and Retention Center. The Blackboard Editor has been reduced in features; it does not allow direct access to modify HTML code, bullets, indentation, double-space, etc. An overall find-and-replace feature and overall search are desirable features. The exit of Class Collaborate was a big loss because it was the best virtual classroom environment integrated with Blackboard Learn.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps to display all courses taught by the institution. However, it does not provide feedback about the status of these courses: Do they have all the desirable components? Are the courses active or not? Is the grade book updated every week?

  ### 3. Helpful Group Assignments for Easier Grading

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Meghan D. | Digital Marketing Specialist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

It’s helpful that I can assign things to groups for grading. I also like that I can edit and save grades before posting them.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

I wish there were a better way to send one-on-one emails, instead of having to use announcements or chats. I’d also like more aesthetic options for organizing my class so everything feels clearer and easier to manage.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows me to manage classes of 50+ students and grade their work quickly as well as provide feedback.

  ### 4. Bb Ultra

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rachel S. | Senior Instructional Designer and Senior Lecturer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

Calendar tool = makes it easy for students to see when assessments are due, and the auto reminders are great
Gradebook = being able to post all at once or as you go is handy
Peer Eval = student feedback on each other's work is sometimes more impactful than teacher feedback
Built in rubric = make no more questions about "why did I get X grade"
Analytics = easier to track each student and assess projects. If grades are low, is it because of questions or students?
Partner = LTI tools for integration are easy to use, so long as they (3rd party vendor) haven't changed something. When they do = you have to resync or sometimes remove and then add again. Which can play havoc with the grade book, if you don't download a copy of what you had already before doing this. I learned the HARD way.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

Grade book gets very complicated if you want to drop more than 1 lowest grade. If you use weighted categories, you have to make a weighted column for just that category, then have the overall grade be the total of what each of these is to get accuracy. I have to convert mine to PTS for each category so that the students can understand and verify against Excel calculations.

Additionally, if you teach multiple sections of the same course and merge so that you only have to upload in one = the grade book is a beast to separate these out and track each by course.

The lack of the ability to create and use your own badges, and lord forbid you mess up = means you can't edit them, you have to start all over again. Having a badge designed for "XYZ" requirement that all students in a program must complete is needed. They could then share that badge with all of their professors and not have to complete the assessments multiple times or upload screenshots as proof. Being able to auto-populate or follow the student is needed.

If I set up an assessment to be a completion grade, it should not require that I manually type in a number. I should be able to select the cell with my mouse and choose either complete or not.

Messaging via Bb, when we need to do this through Outlook, so thatthe legal team has a record of all communication. Plus I don't need yet another APP to track messages. I already have email, Zoom, Teams, etc...

Being able to upload video and audio files as attachments should not be allowed. They should all have to be uploaded to the My Media and then deployed.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Transparency of course expectations and grades. No more what are we doing, what did I miss, what is my grade. It puts ownership back on the students.

  ### 5. Blackboard ULTRA Streamlines Learning Management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John P. | Owner and CEO, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

Blackboard ULTRA offers a sleek and intuitive interface that enhances the overall user experience. The streamlined navigation makes it easy to access course materials, assignments, and grades. The integration of various tools such as Collaborate for virtual classrooms and the mobile app for on-the-go access are particularly beneficial. The platform's ability to support multimedia content and interactive elements fosters a more engaging learning environment. Additionally, the analytics and reporting features provide valuable insights into student performance and engagement, helping educators tailor their teaching strategies effectively.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

While Blackboard ULTRA has many strengths, there are areas that could be enhanced. The system occasionally experiences performance issues, such as slow loading times and occasional glitches, which can disrupt the user experience. The customization options for course layouts and themes are somewhat limited, which may not cater to all educators' preferences. Additionally, the integration with third-party tools and applications could be more seamless to avoid compatibility issues. Improving the user support and documentation would also be beneficial, as users sometimes find it challenging to navigate certain features without adequate guidance.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Blackboard ULTRA is designed to tackle several common challenges in the educational landscape. One of its primary strengths is streamlining course management. Instructors find it much easier to organize and manage course materials, assignments, and grades, ensuring that everything is in one accessible place for both them and their students. This organization helps students stay on top of their coursework and access the resources they need without hassle.

The platform also significantly enhances student engagement. By supporting multimedia content and interactive elements, Blackboard ULTRA makes learning more dynamic and interesting. Features like Blackboard Collaborate enable virtual classrooms and real-time interactions, fostering a more connected learning environment.

Accessibility is another area where Blackboard ULTRA excels. It includes features that cater to diverse learning needs, ensuring that all students can fully participate in their courses. Additionally, the platform's performance tracking and analytics tools provide educators with valuable insights into student performance and engagement. These insights allow teachers to tailor their strategies to better meet the needs of their students.

Finally, Blackboard ULTRA offers integration with various third-party tools and applications. This integration enhances the overall functionality of the platform, creating a more cohesive and efficient educational experience. By addressing these issues, Blackboard ULTRA helps create a more efficient, engaging, and accessible learning environment for everyone involved.

  ### 6. Blackboard Review

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

It’s ease of use once classes are established.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

Blackboard does not support all types of integrations.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability for students to join Blackboard courses throughout the country benefits me as an online high school teacher.

  ### 7. Very engaging community for support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joseph G. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

I have been a few different titles over the years. Now I am the LMS admin for our university. Since being admin, I realize how good Anthology does with engaging users. There are weekly office hours calls that include Anthology support answering questions. User feedback is always taken in consideration. Other companies could learn from how well Anthology communicates.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

There is not much I dislike about the product. I have been around from self hosted and now SAAS. I have used original courses and now we are full ultra. People dislike change in general, but it is nice to see this product moving forward.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Blackboard is solving all of our online course needs.

  ### 8. Blackboard Ultra

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

Blackboard Ultra is really intuitive and user friendly for the newer generation. Students have enjoyed using and have not needed much instruction to use the system well. It also adjusted to the screen size making it easier to use in tablets and smartphones. As a faculty user, I really enjoy the grade center and the ability to view all assignments for a specific student. We have never had issues with support, and they usually answer in a timely manner.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

As an admin user, the admin portal is still in the older format and can be a bit confusing sometimes.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Blackboard is the LMS used in our University. It serves as the point of access for all students to access their course content, as well as, for staff to access and receive training information.

  ### 9. lack of subject line in Blackboard messages. Blackboard geniuses, try this with your work email!

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

In Ultra, it is easier to get things done compared to Learn

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

Not having a subject line in Blackboard messages and having a long thread instead of an individual email with a subject line, is annoying. I dare you, Blackboard geniuses to try it with your work email and your clients so you feel what faculty feel. I wonder what made you remove the subject line? How does that bother you. Why don't you listen to faculty, at the end, they are the ones using what you create.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

not many, faculty always find problems, but please, add a subject line to Blackboard messages. By the way, WebCT and old Blackboard had many features you lack. For instance, seeing who is online in Blackboard and be able to send a message.

  ### 10. Not bad, but LMS could use some additional updates

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Elice G. | Program Administrator, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2024

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

I am familiar with it, and it is usable to me. To me it is usable and easy to locate everything that is needed.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

I feel that the way it looks and feels is a little outdated. Now that we are moving to Ultra course pages, I am a little dismayed to hear that a number of features that used to exist are going to go away. Would also like for groups to continue to exist with an individual Zoom link available for the group so that participants don't have to rely on their own Zoom account.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The need to have a centralized place for all course materials and communication functionality.

  ### 11. Developing Faster than before, collaboration with customers

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Justin M. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

Blackboard has become far more user friendly in the past few years. They have been collaborating more closely with customers to make changes and improvements to the LMS.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

At times they seem to chase the "next thing" in tech vs. going after core functionality that is actually useful in real world use cases.

it is the platform we use to deliver instruction at our university

  ### 12. A great enterprise solution for education.

**Reviewed by:** Eugene B. | Professor of Education, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

I think all of the changes to Blackboard Ultra are fantastic. It is a huge improvement over previous versions! The integration of AI in creating assessments is a big feature for me.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

I think Blackboard needs to be designed with more of a focus on today's college student. The learning curve is too high and the kids just don't have the patience or attention span to devote to the tool to master it. They give up way too soon and have a sour attitude about it based on their user experience.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Improving assessment design.

Its modern design enhances usability, while the Collaborate Ultra tool offers a robust virtual classroom experience with high-quality video, audio, and interactive tools like polls and breakout rooms.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

The product is in updating features so what were ok yesterday no longer valid today. It is better now but update the training materials frequently.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Meeting the current accessibility requirements.

  ### 22. Scalable, reliable, easy to use.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

I like the ease of use, and available features. I think Bb's hidden power is how scalable it is to a variety of instiutional sizes and uses. It is also reliable and currently has a very smooth error reporting process.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

The gradebook, as well as assignments, tests and graded/grading items need some rethinking. We need additional flexibility to have this gradebook truly be useable for different circumstances - currently the focus is on very strict graded academic settings so it doesn't provide the flexiblity needed for more nontraditional academics. and repetative, experiential based learning.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

educational needs

I like that it has a ton of features and integrations to function in an online or hybrid classroom.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It integrates a course into a one stop shop for all access and materials.

  ### 31. fairly good for assignments - not good for tests

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2024

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

it's fairly to use. I am not too tech savvy and i don't have problems with assignments & announcements, etc. I don't use the other discussion functions, etc.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

Giving feedback on written work is harder than it needs to be. It seems after I click return, I have to go back and reset the color, etc. When i have 40 assignments, it jus twastes my time.
Also, when I try to download their documents, they become PDFs. That's hard if i want to provifde feedback via WORD and the tracking codes, etc.
During a test, it appears they can access ChatGPT and google. That's counte3r intuitive for a test. If that can be prevented, our IT guys don't seem to know about it.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

BB Ultra is easeir to use than the former.

  ### 32. Running an elearning course using Blackboard

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marius C. | Professor, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 09, 2024

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

It is extremely versatile. You can do almost any educational activity on it.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

1. Setting up online discussions is exhausting. You have to switch between the front end and the Discussion Board end repeatedly. Running mutliple threads gets difficult. Yet one needs interaction in online courses.
2. The Grade Center is really customisable. Has many features, but it is very difficult to navigate through all the marks in an online course that lasts for a few months.
3. It can sometimes be difficult to find answers in the Instructor Help section.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1. It is easy to run a university course using Blackboard. You can communicate with students, get lists of students, collect and mark assignments, work out marks.
2. We are using if for an elearning course in patient blood management. It integrates with SCORM files. One can keep tract of student progress. It is easy to locate and grade any assessments that have been completed. But setting up the course in labour-intensive.

  ### 33. Decent Platform Adding Improvements Continuously

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Irena F. | Parent, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 13, 2024

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

Blackboard is constantly innovating and improving. They listen to their clients.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

Like any LMS, the architecture is complex in the backend and not all the improvements we want are possible.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Blackboard enables our online only and hybrid learners to successfully complete courses.

  ### 34. True technology ‘partner’

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

As a product it meets our Higher Education Institutional needs as a modern Virtual Learning Environment, but Blackboard and Anthology work truley in partnership with us to ensure we getting value for money and meeting our stategic goals. Often after contracts are signed, the relationship with technology vendors dwindles, but not with Blackboard.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

Sometimes feature requests and roadmap items take longer than predicted to implement.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Embedding a campus wider blended learning, teaching and assessment strategy.

  ### 35. My honest review about Blackboard

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

I really like Blackboard's backend database.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

I find the gradebook complexity very hard to navigate.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The overall purpose of a LMS

  ### 36. System is getting there!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lisa B. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2024

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

Blackboard Learn continues to update and advance. They are leading the way in many updates and new technologies. With the new Ultra set up, it is easy to use, and looks the way students expect a modern website to look. The LTI and API systems make integration easy.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

The new Ultra system is lacking many features original had. This does seem to be improving with time, but for now, some of those lacking features make courses more symplistic than our facutly are accustomed to.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This gives up a place to run all our online courses. Additionally we are making use of our data warehouse to write SQL queries to create all our own reporting, which has made many of our Institional Reseach folks happy!

  ### 37. It's getting better in some ways

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Thomas S. | Series Editor, Cambridge Elements in Morphology, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2024

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

More design power is being put in the hands of users.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

The shallow folder structure is not great. The switch to Ultra was unhelpfully rapid, and the conceptual differences between folders and learning modules is unclear, as is which one you should choose for which purpose.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Distribution of learning materials (documents, weblinks, audiovisual materials).
Facilitating assessments of all sorts.
Facilitating student discussion forums.

  ### 38. Blackboard Ultra is great for student course access and facutly ease

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brooks W. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 09, 2024

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

Blackboard Ultra renders very well on all kinds of devices. It is easy to navigate and use for both faculty and students. It also is streamlined, so there is a lot less clutter than in original. The AI tools are very interesting and have many potential uses.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

Blackboard Ultra does still have a learning curve for both students and facutly. The gradebook is also a bit challenging to set up for facutly, and facutly have to make sure that every module and pices of content is available to students in the course.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

IT provides an easy to use interface for online courses or course repositories.

  ### 39. A Comprehensive Review of Blackboard Learning Management System

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** JP C. | Digital Content Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 09, 2024

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

Its accessibility. Vision Ireland is Ireland's national sight loss charity. Digital accessibility is essential to us and we use Blackboard as our LMS because it of how accessibilt the platform and course content is to users with disabilities.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

Navigating to the course catalogue to browse available courses / enrol in a course could be made more straighforward.

It is providing an accessible virtual learning environment for service users and staff of Vision Ireland to avail of a wide variety of courses.

  ### 40. A logically set out and intuitive platform

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2024

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

Clearly set out and very accessible features

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

I find the marking rubrics hard to work with

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Communicating clearly with students in one place and ensuring they have easy access to high quality teaching and learning materials. You still have some way to go to provide useful learning analytics such as those I can access from talis elevate about student learning and interaction with assessment feedback.

  ### 41. Solid, Reliable But Without The Frills

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 17, 2024

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

It creates a safe space for our learners, providing the academics with most of the tools needed to develop engaging learning materials. Being cloud-based, customer support is great, timely and provides regular updates to ensure the learner experience is pararmount.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

It looks and feels somewhat dated, and whilst it provides some tools to "spruce" up the interface, it still looks a little old fashioned, especially compared to a lot of the tools currently out there.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's a "one-stop shop" for all things based around learning, providing our students with a single platform they need, rather than having to go to various different spaces.

  ### 42. Intraconal designer

Blackboard Learn helps to ensure that educational materials are accessible to students This is particularly beneficial for our students who need accommodations

  ### 46. A learning curve, but full of features for students, teachers, and staff

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2024

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

As an admin, I like how well laid out Blackboard's admin panel is. It's customizable, too.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

I wish it would be easier to search for at least filter data within the GUI (i.e., give me all course for X semester built after Y date using Ultra)

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It gives our teachers and students a platform for teaching and learning. I believe the LMS is doing its part when it's "invisible" to users, and it tends to do that admirably, especially Ultra.

  ### 47. Good so far
