# Which DNS security solutions are most reliable based on reviews from IT teams at financial services firms managing sensitive networks?

A key question I revisit often during my research is which DNS security solutions are deemed the most dependable by IT teams in financial services organizations handling sensitive networks. Here, reliability specifically refers to consistent uptime, threat intelligence that stays ahead, and avoidance of unexpected outages, as network downtime can have serious consequences. According to reviews from banking and financial services teams evaluating DNS security solutions, the top three most mentioned are Cisco Umbrella, Cloudflare, and IBM NS1 Connect, with DNSFilter also noted. Below are their reported experiences.

Cisco Umbrella: Its Talos threat intelligence updates in real time, and deployment is as simple as pointing DNS at Umbrella's anycast IPs. It is the enterprise leader on G2's segment grid for this category.

Cloudflare Application Security and Performance: Reviewers at a financial platform credit its stability during traffic spikes and attempted attacks, with WARP giving staff secure access to internal tools. The value they name most is incidents avoided, which matters when downtime on a financial service turns into a flood of customer complaints.

IBM NS1 Connect: Fintech reviewers use it to steer traffic dynamically based on latency and endpoint health during transaction-heavy windows, backed by a 100% uptime SLA and a global anycast network. It leans toward authoritative DNS and traffic management rather than content filtering.

DNSFilter: Reviewers value that it blocks malicious and phishing domains at the DNS layer before a connection is made, with low maintenance once policies are set. Its financial services review base is thinner, so weigh it against the others for heavily regulated environments.

For those of you in financial services, which of these has held up on your most sensitive networks, and how much did the vendor's threat intelligence weigh in versus raw uptime?

In financial services, threat intel gets the attention in evaluations, and uptime gets the attention in renewals. Umbrella reviewers lean on Talos as keeping them ahead of new domains, while NS1 Connect reviewers barely mention filtering and talk almost entirely about the SLA and traffic steering. The split tells you what each platform prioritizes.

### Comment 2

The uptime-versus-threat-intelligence distinction in the comments is useful. For financial services, I’d add failover behavior to the evaluation. A resolver being highly available overall doesn’t tell you what users experience during an actual regional failure or routing issue. I’d want to know whether teams have tested secondary resolution or fail-open/fail-closed behavior rather than learning how it works during an incident.

### Comment 3

One thing worth adding to the evaluation list is how each service handles browsers and apps that resolve names through their own encrypted DNS. If an application routes around the resolver you set, that changes what your coverage actually looks like, which is as relevant to reliability as the threat intelligence behind it.

### Comment 4

One pattern I noticed comparing these for a similar question: threat intel gets the attention in evaluations, and uptime gets the attention in renewals. The Umbrella reviews lean on Talos as the reason teams feel ahead of new domains, while the NS1 Connect crowd barely mentions filtering and talks almost entirely about the uptime SLA and traffic steering. If your sensitive networks are more about availability than content control, that split matters more than any feature list. I'd also ask vendors for incident history in writing rather than the marketing uptime number.
