  ### 1. I Cry Every Time I Do Payroll

**What do you like best about Auris Payroll?**

The interface looks like it will be easy to use and feels non-intimidating.

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

There is no ability to customize at all. Something as simple as changing the names of pay categories requires calling into customer support during business hours. You have no ability to change employee access levels (a paper form must be filled out for Heartland to adjust that for you, including changing their email addresses if needed). The clock in/clock out feature frequently mixes up "clock out" and "meal break" so this is often wrong on employee timesheets and needs correction. Technical support is hit or miss - you might get a rep who understands the system and you might not. You get a "dedicated" customer rep who is usually not available and the one we had lied about certain features that required 2 months worth of back and forth to discover the truth about from a higher up. Reports are not intuitive and you have to "hunt" them down because they are not where you would think a certain report would be. The on-boarding is not robust, for example, when new employees upload their ID, its often upside down or zoomed in -- meaning Heartland does not provide them a guide or check or fix what is being uploaded. I don't think I can sum up just how much of a pain payroll has been since switching to Heartland.

It's a payroll system. That's about it. It allows us to do payroll on a computer. There is no HR component other than a very basic onboarding.

**What do you like best about Auris Payroll?**

It’s extremely basic, without a lot of bells and whistles, so you eventually get the hang of their system. I’ve never had a major issue with downtime or any submission problems.

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

The system is extremely basic and the interface feels incredibly outdated. A number of higher-level functions can only be handled by Heartland team members, which is frustrating when you need something done quickly. When you call in, you’re routed to an off-shore call center that, in my experience, is rarely helpful. For legitimate help, I usually have to email them, and I typically get a response within about 24 hours. Reports are also incredibly slow to run—think year-2000 payroll platforms—and that’s the experience I’ve had with Heartland.

**What problems is Auris Payroll solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We brought on Heartland Payroll+ along with their Time and Attendance product, but the two systems have had issues syncing with each other. This is a known issue to Heartland, and it has been very frustrating to deal with. Our main goal in choosing them was better integration and simpler processes, but that didn’t happen for us. In the end, we left Heartland and moved to ADP.

Reasonable Cost for basic payroll - we're very small business so difficult to find affordable and reliable provider.  Onboarding was good.

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

Some of the functions are clumsy and often challenging to find simple answers... patience required when reaching out for support.

**What problems is Auris Payroll solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Had other payroll processing companies in the past that continually raised rates (one DOUBLED in 4 years)... Heartland has held pricing within affordability for very small business.

The user interface was horrible, and my employees always complained about the app and logging in to get Tax Documents, which caused a lot of admin headache.

Heartland Payroll+ was good for basic payroll and had a dedicated rep with responsive customer service. However, the user interface was horrible, causing complaints and admin headaches when employees accessed tax documents.

**What do you like best about Auris Payroll?**

Scheduling in the system is breeze.  It shows when employess are unavaible but also has their "scheulded" time on the grid if you copy and paste schedules, unlike ADP which just throws those shifts at the top and you are not sure who they belonged to to get proper coverage.  It also calculates the total forecasted payroll spend per employee in dollars and hours for the whole company and by individual as well.  The change over from ADP was extremely easy.  You are partnered up with a representative from the HR side and Payroll side to walk you through the various features.  It also intergreated with Ease which manages the benefits side of the business.  Everyone you deal with is extremley helpful and profeesional and answer questions, in a timely manner.

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

The only issue what when running an off cycle payroll check you must contact customer support so that they can create the cycle for you.

**What problems is Auris Payroll solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solved the what am I scheduling to spend on this schedule.  Payroll is the biggest expense a small business has and we started with ADP.  ADP could tell me what I spent but not what I was forecasting to spend, which casued payroll overspends when we first opened.

They will hit you with fees even after it was there mistakes and not support their client.  My assigned payroll person will not follow up on my calls.  Then general team is to friendly or helpful to work with. Over all promised great things but every issue was a pain to work out and put back on me for not knowing something.  Isnt that why I hire a payroll service to understand payroll rules?

Processed our payroll and only was good for onboarding new staff.

That we are leaving Heartland Payroll, honestly it's been a horrible experience all around and I truly can't think of any positives. Support is responsive but they make a lot of mistakes that cost customers time and in some cases money, so I'm not sure that's really a positive.

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

Website is one of the worst, it goes down often and is very frustrating. Support is lackluster, make mistakes that result in fradulent charges, although they do refund every time you point them out. Really expensive compared to QB payroll considering they don't do everything for you. Problems, problems, and more problems every step of the way. They don't make it easy for a customer to add an extra payroll, you have to reach out to support every time an employee in a new location starts and every time you have to run a termination payroll that doesn't fall on normal payroll run. They bad mouth other payroll companies to try to make themselves "look better". I wouldn't reccomend Heartland to anyone and we've only used it for 2 quarters and we're switching because it's been awful.

I gave them a try since it was affiliated to my bank but was not pleased at all.

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

I setup merchant services with this company since it's affiliated to Navy Fed but they are nothing like NFCU. After asking me for much more than required and taking weeks to approve me I was finally approved. I have a newer company formed with EIN and LLC so I thought they were being cautious. I used the links to attached to my business and began marketing and checked it 2 days later to find the link was not working. I called, no response. Emailed the rep, no resolution. After a week, I called directly again to be told it was de-activated and a ticket will be submitted to re-initiate. I eventually hear back from the rep telling me after they opened my account, they reconsidered and closed it with suspicion of fraud. There was no explanation or notice and I had already went live in my business to accept payments with the link. Very unprofessional. I submitted all the legal documents showing my business structure and formation, bank account info etc to be told yes and then no 2 days later. Not to mention, they were slow to respond in general. I do not recommend this company for merchant services.

created problems by not communicating and changing their minds after approving my business. I launched my new product with the link and noone informed me they cancelled without even informing me. Made me look unprofessional launching a product with a link that did not work.

Heartland payroll was convenient because they were connected to our POS and credit card processing service. Beyond that small convenience there was nothing positive

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

Heartland payroll had continual turnover in staff which made consistency impossible and even months after ending service with them we still get letters from the state of Maine, Mass and New Hampshire stating that they filed either late, incorrectly,or not at all.

Integration with the POS system was the only problem they helped to solve but even with this, they still got our payroll incorrect most weeks

**What do you like best about Auris Payroll?**

I like that I can process payroll, print checks and run reports by myself. I typically do not need customer service help. But when I do need help - it sometimes takes a long time to get a response, and I'm not sure why sometimes, during business hours, they do not answer their phone. Are people still working from home??  There is an option to reach another person in the department, and I still cannot get anyone on the line. One time issue, and it seems to have been fixed (so far).

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

Our end-of-the-year payroll is typically higher cost due to bonuses; I understand there are additional complications and regulations associated with that. I do not know why I have to wire money to their account to cover the costs when funds come directly out of our account. Their customer service is spotty, depending on the rep.

**What problems is Auris Payroll solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They are doing our payroll now, but I was previously with Quickbooks, and it seemed to be about the same. I was able to input, process and print myself. Heartland does have a little better report capability.. but otherwise I'm not sure if it's worth the price.

Our Payroll Specialist responds timely. Clean look.

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

This system is horrendous.  We have had nothing but issues since implementating it.  It's very limited on it's reporting.  The time system does not integrate seamlessly with payroll .  If you have any issues with taxes, they give you a generic response that the tax team will get back to you with no indication of when.  Every issue we have encountered has taken several MONTHS to resolve.  Also, I constantly run into issues with the GL import to Quickbooks as something gets messed up with mapping. This system might be good for a very small company, but if you have any sort of complexity to your payroll RUN.

Unfortunately I would not recommend anything. I lack confidence in their resolution to our problems. The information they provided was incorrect and they did not verify the information before sending it to me.
In fact payroll was run without me approving it.

The Heartland payroll staff wiped out all staff PTO and it's been 18 days and they still have not resolved the issue with 8 members of their staff. 

The Heartland Time and Attendance are also unable to resolve an issue we are having adding new staff to our account. I as given a report that they "fixed" only to find multiple errors and the data used was the original data that was incorrect.

Neither team responds to emails & voicemails. Their excuse is they were in meetings all day. 

After 18 days of pure frustration I have asked for the district manager's supervisor's contact infirmantion and was denied.

Honestly from the get-go it has been issue after issue. The sales rep's exact words "this will be a simple transaction, sign the forms and we handle the rest"  Since signing, we have had so many problems I'd rather check time cards manually and hand writes checks to 100 staff members.  The training was subpar- calls which said oh this dept. doesn't handle that but we will put you in contact with another dept.  No one ever told us Heartland Payroll was two companies when signing up, the Payroll is separate from their timekeeping and no one knows anything about the other.  We were told this would be turnkey and hands-off... I would pay 10x more just be be back on Quick books basic version or 20x more to be with ADP

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

Since we signed up a few months ago each pay period there have been anywhere from 5-12 people missing pay, people with incorrect wages, every pay period. We will submit changes and they go missed or not adjusted, not to mention we were told we would have 1 payroll specialist but I've spoken to no less than 5-8 different people. The icing on the cake is they have you fill out Authorization forms on who can access what but do not follow the forms they send all condiment payroll information to people who are not authorized to see others' wages. I'm not sure what else can get screwed up at this point.  Please pay extra to use another service or get someone fresh out of high school to handle your payroll!

There is NOTHING I like best about HEARTLAND.  It has been one of the worst experiences!

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

I was recommended to Heartland by a colleague, so I thought this had to be a good fit. I was so wrong. What the Sales Rep representative as to what the company was willing and able to do and have knowledge on is entirely inaccurate. First, the transition was a complete disaster. I expected that there would be a couple of bumps in the road, but not a total derailment. I spent several hours reviewing the payroll information to have an accurate payroll.  I was told that I could provide our payroll hours however our timesheet tracking system would allow, and they would work with it.  WRONG! They paid my State withholdings late the first month I was with the company and then tried to blame it on me and that it was somehow my fault when all the documentation provided stated the frequency of the withholding to the state that needed to be paid.  This is just one of many issues/errors I have experienced with this company. I was told that I would have a dedicated specialist working on my account and available. WRONG!  I have sent emails not to be replied back to. I had a payroll almost not posted; because my approval email was not received, and the specialist did not see fit to contact me on the status of approval.  I am caught between a rock and a hard spot for transitioning to another company. If would not recommend this payroll company to any company!!

I enjoy how easy it is to set up a new employee and the birthday/anniversary reminders

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

I'm not a big fan of the fact that our HR platform, Ease will not talk to Heartland, but Heartland talks to Ease. I have to manually enter any changes made in Ease into Heartland. I wish it would both talk to each other.

**Recommendations to others considering Auris Payroll:**

Consider using all the modules that Heartland has to offer. We use two different HR platforms, so it's easier to have it all in one HR platform. I usually have to transfer info from one platform to the other manually. Our platform Ease does integrate with Heartland, but any changes in Ease do not automatically transfer over to Heartland. If we used Heartland's HR module, it would be easier.

We haven't had any problems before using Heartland..but we do enjoy the customer service that we recieve from the team. They are always ready to help us when we need it.

The Onboarding process has been to automate and store a lot of the document procedures you would need with new hires. It allows you to upload custom documents ( employee handbooks, NDA's, NC's, etc.). They have click options to have employees being onboarding sign W2, W9, and other state-required documents.  Their system allows you to verify their social security for work authorization and run background checks

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

The communication between the company and departments was not good. I had multiple products and ran into issues when trying to troubleshoot problems between both systems.

**Recommendations to others considering Auris Payroll:**

Ask a lot of questions when set up your account and using the platform.

Having a centralized system and saving me time on gathering hours and submitting payroll is what heartland helps me do.   The benefits are everything recorded on one platform, employee and payroll automated somewhat for me so I have to do less steps to get payroll going through.

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

The owner of our company submitted a FIT withholding change request back in Spring 2021 - the form was received by Heartland (by their admission), but the payroll change was never made. This resulted in a substantial underpayment of FIT by the company owner (me).

**What problems is Auris Payroll solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Heartland payroll dropped the ball, and we will look for a new payroll company.

The W-2 processing fee was higher than expected.  Also, my specialist is supposed to contact me every 2 weeks so I can report payroll over the phone and I am always having to call.

The monthly fee is lower than our last service and all reports are easy to locate on your site.

Heartland offers an easy to use self service portal for entering time and pulling reports.   The friendly Payroll Specialist Team is available when I have questions or need specific assistance with the portal.

There have been a few instances where I needed time sensitive assistance and getting to the right person was a challenge.

Heartland takes care of calculating the taxes, deduction amounts, filing with the local, state, and federal goverments, etc for our payroll.  All I have to do is enter the time and the checks are calculated for me.

My sales rep is still on the job and available for my calls even 3 years later! He's my go-to support when I can't figure out something I'm trying to do. Talking to support at Heartland is helpful if you get someone helpful.

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

It's not a user-friendly service for a non-HR, non-accounting person. When I started with Heartland, my bank integrated with my accounting system (Xero) and doing payroll was much easier. Then my bank changed to a 2-step online validation login, and it broke my connection to Xero, which meant it broke my connection to Heartland, too. Now I have to do my payroll manually, and the reporting is not easy to understand. However, I plan to either change banks or accounting systems this year, and then the Heartland interface should work again. So none of this is really Heartland's fault.

**Recommendations to others considering Auris Payroll:**

Try to work with a rep who has a long history with the company and/or experience in payroll/HR. Like most online companies, they do most of their support by chat/email, altho they're pretty good about voice to voice if you call in. When I signed up with them, I'd reviewed 2 other payroll companies in addition to Heartland. I liked that Heartland had a local rep and he seemed very knowledgeable. My first account exec was very responsive and helpful. But he got promoted and now I'm not impressed with his replacement. She's actually making my job harder. So I reached out to my sales rep to ask to be switched to someone else. That is still in progress. But it's a huge undertaking to move financial accounts, so I'm going to try to make this work before looking around again.

My mother did my payroll for more than 20 years. When she retired, I didn't want to a) do it her way or b) do it at all !!! :) So I thought a payroll service would save me lots of time, even though I only have a few employees and 1099s. They actually save me $$ since I don't have to have my accountant do my W2s and 1099s in January, and I don't have to worry that I'm doing my quarterly payroll tax filings wrong. It's a nominal fee for this peace of mind

I compared 8 payroll companies because I run a health insurance agency and I have heard so many complaints about ADP and Paychex, that I wanted to be able to recommend a replacement.  I have partnered with Joe Sperlin and we have converted three clients to your company, four if you include mine.  Everyone loves having a personal rep and Isaiah has been fantastic.  He makes me feel like a VIP and knows what he is doing.  

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

I'm mad that I didn't do this sooner.  It would have saved me a lot of time.

**Recommendations to others considering Auris Payroll:**

If you value personal and attentive service, Heartland is better than any payroll service available.  I researched the top 8 payroll companies and Heartland won on 7 out of 8 categories.  I'm recommending that all of my clients move to them.  They don't pass along rate increases every six months, you can talk with a dedicated representative and they offer the best customer service out there.

They made everything simpler.  This frees up time for me to do my job.

Heartland Hire, online on-boarding for new hires is the best feature.

Rudeness of employees and slow response times.  I dislike being able to make simple changes to  employee benefits, such as changing IRA amounts or adding a recurring deduction. I usually have to contact a Heartland employee to make the change. They have software issues on a weekly basis, with little communication.  We have low confidence in Heartland so we try to complete payroll a few days in advance to be certain payroll will get processed.

Using Heartland payroll has helped us with reporting and posting our payroll expenses, being able to break down by Department etc.

I like that the customer services is fast and friendly. I do not feel like I am a bother to my specialist when I call them to ask a question. They are very knowledgeable when it come to taxes and GL accounts.

The only complaint i have regarding Heartland Payroll Services is that my employees are constantly being locked out of their accounts. I'm told that this is due to security measures from them not logging on for more than 30 days in a row, but they have expressed to me that they wish there was an easier way to access check stubs, especially on a mobile phone. I usually have to send a new invitation to enable self servie a few times a month due to an employee being locked out.

They are an honest company and provide a great payroll service.

The problems that i have solved with Heartland Payroll is not being hit with hidden fees or computer generated "over charges." Also, importing into Quickbooks is very easy and seems to be importing into the correct GL Accounts. We had problems with both of these issues with our previous payroll service.

The web interface itself is very easy and intuitive to use.  More importantly....our sales rep and payroll specialist have been wonderful to work with!

Switching from Paychex I have noticed that there are a few limitations with Heartland Payroll.  Switching over our BWC setup was not as easy as it could have been and 3rd party payment to courts, etc. for employee garnishments still need some work.

I highly recommend the payroll team at Heartland Payment Systems.  As with all changes, some issues occur but our payroll team has been quick to correct any issues or find a fix to satisfy our requests.  Domenic and Elizabeth have been wonderful to work with.  Our team at Town Center Petroleum is very happy that we made this change.

**What problems is Auris Payroll solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The issues I described above are being resolved with our Heartland contacts.  But it should not have been as difficult as it was to get setup properly in the first place with the description of what we were looking for from the outset of this payroll provider change.  The biggest benefit will be that we will have our payroll and time clocks and scheduling all together for the first time.  It is not completely flowing perfectly yet for our companies but we are well on our way.

The price but you get what you pay for.  There are a lot of hidden fees in the "big dollar" payroll services but at Heartland it is more of a grocery list offering.

Sales guy was typical sales guy - sell and disappear.  Instead of properly reviewing current offerings and putting together a plan to match current and Heartland offerings would have been simple but an additional exercise.  Instead - as some sales guys do they show lowest price and build from there.

I love that I have a Payroll Specialist to review my payroll or to be there in case I have internet issues. But entering online makes it so much easier than hoping I'll be free when my scheduled time to call happened.

I wish we could make a recurring entry that happens at end of month payroll only, so I dont have to remember to enter it every other payroll.

Heartland Payroll is easy to use.  I can transmit the payroll online and whenever I'm ready.  I dont need to wait for a call or call back if I was busy when the call came thru.  We run a tight ship here so we're on the phone or with customers whenever they pop in or call.

It is not easy enough for my employees to get their paystubs. My husband's company uses ADP, and its employee app is amazing and very easy to use.

Make sure you have at least 2 employees who are well associated with the system. I'd also recommend reaching out to your personal payroll specialist with any problems. I have found all the staff to be very helpful and friendly.

I am able to really break down how my guys are getting paid. We pay by footage, but we will also sometimes pay guys hourly. Generally hourly pay is not billable to customers, so I separate it for record keeping.

Heartland Payroll is user friendly and easy to use! It saves me so much time.  When I get in trouble or have a complex problem, I can call a payroll specialist!  They are all very knowledgeable and friendly.  They get an A+ for customer service.

There is nothing I dislike about Heartland Payroll. Maybe they could give 1 or 2 free questions a year, about HR.  They have always been proactive, on-time and flexible.  They are amazing and more personable than my last payroll. Every time I think I will run into a roadblock. Heartland comes through.  They have solved every issue like payroll to accounting integration with a GL detail export report that I can upload. Every single representative is knowledgeable, quick and lovely to deal with! Payroll time is minimal.  With so many wage and labor regulations, Heartland keeps me up to date! It is easy to run payroll, make modifications, add hours, add vacation, keep track of accruals like 125 plans, 401K deductions for workers and management.  I can easily change, edit and add categories.  The platform is laid out beautifully and works seamlessly every time.  I have never had a problem with Heartland.  Keep up the good work.  I love Heartland Payroll!

Very easy to set up and a little learning curve since the training was a video emailed to me. Had one off questions. I should not have sent an email because i did not get a response.

I have no clue on how to pay state or fed payroll taxes and this is the main reason i did it. There are only two employees so Heartland solved my problem but I wish the cost was a bit less since our company is so small.

One of the key factors for me as the controller of a company is, that our rep with HLP stays consistent.  I have worked with many PR services over the past 28 yrs and Heartland Payroll is on my top two.  They are easy to work with, very efficient, and online features is very user friendly.  Whenever we have a concern they respond very quickly.  Usually under 15 minutes.

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

Know really.  The cost is higher than other PR companies but the benefits to stay with HLP far out weighs the cost.  "You get what you pay for."

**Recommendations to others considering Auris Payroll:**

You can't go wrong with Heartland Payroll.  Disappointment you will not have.

Employees can access their account to pull records when needed.  No inflex on WC audits, love the pay as you go, so we are not hit with a huge premium.  Or in a rare case get a large refund back after an audit has been done.  Love that benefit!  Keeping track of new AZ laws on sick pay.  Employee's know what is available always.

I have used several payroll services over the years with very mixed reviews. The better ones were quite costly, and the "bargain ones" were totally worthless. Since coming to Heartland 3 years ago, I feel like I now have both. Heartland does a great job and my account rep responds very quickly to any questions I may have. I highly recommend Heartland to anyone looking for a quality payroll service!

To date....I haven't really found anything that I didn't like. Honestly! Maybe I would like it if there were a written online training manual that I could use as a reference. That would be helpful. Other than that, I've got nothing to complain about! And trust me, I am not shy in vocalizing my opinion when a company has failed me.

I highly recommend giving Heartland a try. I don't think you will be disappointed!

We are only on-board with Heartland for 1 year now, so hopefully it gets better, but for the first 12 months, Heartland staff made way too many mistakes processing our payroll. We are looking for an accurate payroll processor.

Prompt, courteous, helpful, and friendly customer service every time

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

Occasionally, I have a hard time figuring out how to input information for employees or changing information. However, my contact at Heartland is always responsive and will do it for me, if I can't figure it out.

**What problems is Auris Payroll solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We started using Heartland when we expanded our sales force to other states. They were very helpful getting all the various state filing requirements set up and handled.

I like the access to all of my payroll data

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

Major changes to the system being made ahead of a holiday week.  Poor communication between Heartland and timekeeping systems. Slow response time to issues.  Almost impossibility of getting my rep on the phone.

Access to my own data; greater control over entire payroll process.

**What do you like best about Auris Payroll?**

I used Heartland for a small business for a few years and had endless issues. There was a new person assigned to my payroll every couple of months and the new person was never adequately trained to function in that role. I finally left them and asked them to help me either close my business or tell me what I had to do. They did not know and when I asked to have the assistance of a "supervisor" she got snippy with me because I was terminating with them. 

**What do you dislike about Auris Payroll?**

Lack of training. Errors, errors, and more errors, Rude supervisors. Now 9 months after I terminated with them, I am still getting notices of things they didn't close with the PA Dept of Revenue - and didn't tell me to do even though I asked. 

**What problems is Auris Payroll solving and how is that benefiting you?**

No benefits, only grief.
