According to me, Apache Xalan is the best platform for anyone to use its services. Xalan tends to be slightly faster than the compiling transformer XSITC, and it also converts XML files to HTML files. Its features and performance are good, and its quality is also awesome. XPath is built on Xalan and it provides quick way to select a certain data a big xml without the trouble for parsing it, the company I worked for had an integration tool that was built on xpath and it was quick and stable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

My usage for XPath (which uses Xalan) was very simple which is to select data with a certain pattern from an xml file that represents a document to be integrated, so I did not have a heavy usage to dislike something, it just covered it's purpose with being stable and quick.
