  ### 1. Consolidates Complex Tasks, But Needs Time Investment

**What do you like best about Abacum?**

I really like that Abacum gives us one consolidated financial forecast that everyone can link to, making it easy for specific people in the finance team to make edits. Plus, some people in executive and management departments can access it to look at specific things relevant to them. It creates one unified view for the whole company and eliminates the hassle of working across different spreadsheets.

**What do you dislike about Abacum?**

I think what could be improved is, like, people going to take get into Abacum is not for everyone. It's not if your business is relatively simple. Then I think Excel is more than enough to manage it. Also, the thing with Abacum is implementation takes time. There is a certain cost of time that you need to put in, and I think it can take up to four to five months, to actually get it up and running. So there's a significant investment of time without getting the output right up. So you do have to invest that.

**What problems is Abacum solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Abacum consolidates our complex financial forecasts, replacing scattered Excel sheets with a unified view. It integrates with HR and accounting platforms, easing management across entities. However, setup is lengthy, requiring four to six months for full implementation.

**What do you like best about Abacum?**

Abacum is how easy it is to use. The interface is clean and intuitive, our finance team picked it up quickly, and non-finance stakeholders can explore reports without needing hand-holding. 

Setting up integrations is straightforward, and once everything was connected, keeping data refreshed becomes effortless. 

Building models, comparing budget versus forecast, and creating board-ready dashboards all feel natural rather than technical. The learning curve is surprisingly gentle. The support team is also on hand directly through slack, and very responsive. 

It also feels like a collaborative product experience, a few of our improvement suggestions have been implemented; our feedback is taken into account, which you don't often find.

**What do you dislike about Abacum?**

Implementation can take longer than initially anticipated and getting your data structured, mappings configured, and models built to a standard you're happy with requires real investment of time. That said, this is largely a reflection of the complexity of your own data and business logic rather than a shortcoming of Abacum itself. The implementation team is supportive throughout, but it's worth going in with realistic expectations on timeline.

**What problems is Abacum solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All key metrics are consolidated in one place, pulled live from our connected systems. Governance has improved as a result. I also value having both financial and operational metrics consolidated within a single platform, which has helped streamline our reporting. Overall, our consolidation time has been reduced.

**What do you like best about Abacum?**

I like using Abacum for financial planning and analysis, especially how it helps in sharing financial data with heads of department. The spaces and role-based access control are great because they allow us to share financial data with specific people, ensuring that the information is relevant to them and their department. During the initial setup, we had support from two members of Abacum who were mostly readily available, which was really helpful despite the steep learning curve.

**What do you dislike about Abacum?**

The data sync with Xero is temperamental and often takes multiple attempts to get a successful sync. Building models can become quite complex, and the learning curve is quite steep in this area. Using dimensions within models, spaces, or scenarios can become very complex.

**What problems is Abacum solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Abacum to share financial data specifically with department heads, thanks to spaces and role-based access control, ensuring they see only relevant information.

What I like best about Abacum is how it turns financial planning into something fast, collaborative, and easy to understand, even for non-finance teams.
Real-time forecasting & budgeting – you can instantly see the impact of changes, which makes decision-making much quicker.

Strong integrations – it connects smoothly with accounting systems, CRMs, and HR tools, reducing manual work and errors.

Collaboration-friendly – stakeholders outside finance can participate without needing deep financial knowledge.

Clear, intuitive dashboards – complex financial data is presented in a way that’s easy to interpret.

**What do you dislike about Abacum?**

Learning curve for new users – while the interface is clean, some advanced features (like modeling complex scenarios) can take time to master.

**What problems is Abacum solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Manual, error-prone financial planning

Problem: Teams spend hours in spreadsheets reconciling numbers, which leads to mistakes and delays.

Some parts of the application can feel a bit tedious, for example when I need to apply the same changes across several variables.

**What do you like best about Abacum?**

Abacum has tremendous flexibility in terms of its data and analysis capabilities.  The ability to create custom metrics and data transformations directly in the data set has allowed us to automate our leadership team's complex pipeline requirements.  We previously tried to build our custom pipeline reporting metrics directly in Salesforce (Tableau) and Mosaic but were unable to do so.  Abacum releases product enhancements faster than any software platform I have ever seen -  it is not uncommon for them to release one or two product updates every week - and offers more integrations to modern technology tools than its competitors.  We have completed overhauled our Finance tech stack over the past year, including migrating our ERP, and chose Abacum partly based on its integration with Rillet.  Finally, Abacum's Excel connector is one-of-kind among strategic finance platforms and allows teams to maintain hybrid workflows in both Excel and Abacum.

**What do you dislike about Abacum?**

We have experienced a few bugs in the tables and reporting (e.g., percentage variances for individual line items adding up rather than calculating at the total level).  These bugs are usually either quickly resolved or the technical support team has provided a work around.  We intended to use the Paylocity integration but have been unable to due the fact that Abacum's integration partner doesn't pull in some of the key fields that we use (we also had a similar issue with Mosaic).  The Abacum team partially made up for this by allowing us to substitute our Paylocity integration for the Excel connector.

**What problems is Abacum solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Abacum for reporting (pipeline and operating expense), workforce planning, and general budgeting and forecasting.  The system helps us automate manual processes that were previously done in Excel and has enabled new valued-added reporting and analysis that wasn't possible in our previous strategic finance platform.

**What do you like best about Abacum?**

I really value Abacum's customer support and account management, as they are highly responsive and provide a direct line to influence the product roadmap, with the added benefit of having a US office for responsive support later in the evening in the UK. The modeling capabilities are impressive, offering ease in setting up and tracing model variables, which is essential for accurate and efficient financial planning. I appreciate the seamless integration process, which was quick and executed with support from outstanding analysts. The pace at which new products are shipped is commendable, demonstrating Abacum's commitment to innovation and continuous improvement. The AI classifier tool has been a game-changer for our budgeting processes, enabling us to categorize transactional data from NetSuite effectively for budget planning at a supplier level. Overall, these features collectively enhance the functionality and value of Abacum, making it a vital tool in our financial operations.

**What do you dislike about Abacum?**

I find that the AI classifier in Abacum requires close management and involves a significant amount of effort. Additionally, the visualization options are not up to par as they lack the level of detail available in Excel's chart-building functionalities. While the user interface is generally good, the limitations in chart options fall behind current standards.

**What problems is Abacum solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Abacum for democratizing financial data, scenario planning, version control, and data flow management. It provides better control over financial models and helps manage management accounts efficiently.

**What do you like best about Abacum?**

I love Abacum’s clean and intuitive interface, which makes it easy for my finance team to work with on a daily basis. The version management feature is particularly helpful as it allows us to keep and compare different scenarios and report versions seamlessly, ensuring we are always aware of what has changed. The ability to centralize finance data, which was previously scattered across spreadsheets, has drastically reduced errors and duplicate work. This has effectively streamlined our budgeting and forecasting cycles, and enabled faster production of monthly management reports. Abacum has also significantly enhanced alignment and collaboration with other teams like commercial and sales by ensuring we share consistent numbers and assumptions, providing greater visibility to stakeholders across the company. Additionally, the initial setup of Abacum was quite straightforward due to the excellent guidance from the customer support team, which made the transition smooth. All of these features and support contribute to making Abacum a highly valuable tool for financial oversight and planning in my organization.

**What do you dislike about Abacum?**

One area that could be improved in Abacum is the flexibility for viewers within spaces. Currently, only Admins have the ability to modify a table, which restricts viewers from applying specific filters or changing the view on their own. This limitation requires us to pre-build every possible table or view for them, making the space longer and harder to navigate. Allowing controlled filtering for viewers could address this issue by enabling them to apply temporary filters or sorting on tables (on fields allowed by the Admin) without altering the main view. This would reduce the need for creating multiple similar tables and streamline navigation within spaces.

**What problems is Abacum solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Abacum to centralize finance data, reducing errors and duplicated work, and to streamline budgeting and forecasting. It improves alignment with sales teams by sharing consistent data and speeds up monthly reporting. Its intuitive interface and version management enhance our planning and review processes.

**What do you like best about Abacum?**

The ability to quickly create charts and graphs for various cases (actuals, forecast, budget etc) and compare them is incredible. Also creating a budget from the forecast has saved us so much time. 

I also like the way Abacum integrates with Netsuite and how easy it is to maintain the chart of accounts and map accounting logic into economic logic for management reporting / decision-making. 

We are using Abacum every single day for our reporting needs and insights.

**What do you dislike about Abacum?**

Sometimes the flexibility of the platform is challenging. I sometimes know how I would do something in excel (for example using look ups / index match between data sets) but I am not sure how to do it in Abacum or it isn't possible.

**What problems is Abacum solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Monthly reporting (previouly our process was incredibly manual with copy pasting journal entries from netsuite into a ghseet)
- Quickly seeing the results of various scenarios on EBITDA and cash flow 
- Comparing versions / scenarios against each other and visualisation
In general all of this is benefiting us with much more reliable data and time saving.
