  ### 7. A Technical and Functional Approach

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alex R. | Information Technology Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Ubuntu?**

Even for beginners, the interface is clean, elegant, and easy to use. Ubuntu is based on Debian, so it is very reliable and receives frequent security updates. Apt makes software installation very easy, and Ubuntu supports Snap, Flatpak, and .deb.

**What do you dislike about Ubuntu?**

Some apps via Snap take a long time to open and consume more resources. And you don't always have the option to use another version. For older machines, the "standard" Ubuntu can be a bit heavy. Versions like Xubuntu or Lubuntu are lighter. Proprietary drivers (e.g., Nvidia) sometimes cause headaches. Although it has improved a lot, support can still fail in specific cases.

**What problems is Ubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ubuntu is free and open source, eliminating the need to pay for operating systems or basic software. It has a robust permissions system, making it less vulnerable to viruses and malware common in Windows. Ideal for environments that require security.

  ### 17. Ubuntu Server 24.04 LTS User Review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** bhavik m. | Senior Linux Administrator (AWS), Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Ubuntu?**

1. Repository (apt) is updated with new packages which are latest one.
2. Systemctl command is more reliable in Ubuntu 24.04 version compare to Ubuntu 22.
3. Boot time taken in Ubuntu 24.04 is very fast compare to my other OS like Centos and Debian 11.
4. Reboot time taken after any configuration change is quite fast compare to Amazon Linux 2 as I did comparison for both OS and can say that AZ2 takes 2 min 4 sec to re-up the server while ubuntu 24.04 takes 1 min 3 sec compare to AZ2 for re-up. So we can say it saves half of the time.
5. It supports maximum range of lower version of Database i.e. mysql, maria-db.
6. Nginx and Apache both web server functions more smoothly in Ubuntu 24.04 OS.

**What do you dislike about Ubuntu?**

1. CPU core process utlization is quite high at start up of any web services like nginx and apache2.
2. SWAP space time to use in case of requirement is quite longer as compare to other OS. When I mount swap partition and try to use it but it was available not immediately but it was available after few more minutes post providing mount point.

So this second point is totally comes inder dislike category as it was totally irritating.

**What problems is Ubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Latest packages which were not available in default repository are added in default repo in Ubuntu 24.04. Same issue was found in ubuntu 20 and ubuntu 22 version. So this is best benefit in my case. because to get latest package, we need to add manual repo and need to get that package from external repo which is resolved now.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2025

**What do you like best about Ubuntu?**

Ubuntu is one of the first OS that I ever used. And I still have Ubuntu in VPCs and VMs. I like the fact that everything is so robust and simple in Ubuntu. When you want to create reliable servers with not much of OS level hassles, Ubuntu is a top choice.

**What do you dislike about Ubuntu?**

When I am not thinking as a developer or Software Engineer. I would like to ease my life a little bit. So, here Ubuntu can get a little messy. Although I would say the ecosystem is highly active these days. Still, I would say it lacks the experience that a regular user needs. That snappy touch of UX and a bunch of utilities that macOS or Windows provides seem absent when I just want to chill.

**What problems is Ubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The simplicity, and robustness provides a reliable trust for building cloud infrastructures.

  ### 27. Sure

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Fátima D. | Disbursement Accounts Analyst / SVS Company Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Ubuntu?**

I like Ubuntu because it is a secure, stable, and free operating system. Its interface is intuitive, the installation is simple, and there is a large community that is always willing to help. Additionally, being open-source, I can customize and adapt it according to what I need, without worrying about licenses or additional costs.

**What do you dislike about Ubuntu?**

What I don't like about Ubuntu is that some programs are not compatible and sometimes it can be complicated to find the right drivers for certain devices. Additionally, in environments where systems like Windows predominate, its integration with certain programs or networks may not be as smooth. If you don't maintain a frequency of use, it's easy to forget some commands or configurations. Also, for those coming from other systems, the learning curve can be a challenge, and official support is not as accessible as in other systems.

**What problems is Ubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ubuntu has some issues, such as the lack of compatibility with certain Windows programs, the need to manually install some drivers, and integration with systems that primarily use Windows. At first, it can also be a bit difficult to get used to its operation. However, this helps me explore free alternatives, learn more about hardware and software, and develop skills in Linux, which can be useful for technology topics, QA, or even for my entrepreneurship.

**What do you like best about Ubuntu?**

What I like best about Ubuntu is its speed, stability, and the freedom to customize everything. What’s most helpful is the strong community support and easy access to open-source tools.

**What do you dislike about Ubuntu?**

What I dislike about Ubuntu is occasional software compatibility issues, especially with certain proprietary apps. The least helpful part is dealing with hardware drivers — sometimes they require manual fixes.

**What problems is Ubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ubuntu solves problems like high system resource usage and lack of control in other OSes. It gives me a fast, customizable, and open-source environment that’s perfect for development.

**What do you like best about Ubuntu?**

The ubuntu is really best for development, weather it is a web application developement or mobile application. I have been using it since last 4 years and it is running so smoothly. Ubuntu has really worked on its look and feel. Since the Gnome 46(ubuntu 24.04) its new look is just fabulous. and the support to more application is just great. One of the best feature I like about ubuntu is its multiple display transition. It is just so smooth allowing filtering the apps on diffrent displays.

**What do you dislike about Ubuntu?**

I honestly don't think I can find anything I particularly dislike about it, it's just plain old ubuntu with no GUI, I would say I'd like to have some sort of web UI available to look at some quick statistics without ssh, but setting that up using external packages isn't hard by any means.
