We continued to use it for a few years, and it worked fine. But ReTool were slow to pivot to AI-based tooling, and in that time gap we used AI to build out in-house tooling that replicated what we were paying ReTool for. We've since seen that Retool has brought out AI-friendly tooling, and if I was starting over from scratch, I'd consider using ReTool; I'm confident they've got a good grasp of the enterprise security side of things, but at a small business owner, with a functioning operations stack that costs me pennies per month, at this point there's not a good reason to go through the effort to switch back. What I like most about Retool is how quickly it lets you build internal tools and operational dashboards.

It cuts out a huge amount of boilerplate work—especially for admin panels, workflows, and integrations—so engineering teams can spend more time on business logic rather than rebuilding internal UIs from scratch. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

One downside is that as applications grow, Retool apps can become harder to maintain and keep organized.

When complex logic is spread across queries, components, and transformers, it can get messy over time, especially with larger teams working in the same app. Performance can also become a concern as apps get heavier, and debugging isn’t always as clear or straightforward as it would be in a traditional codebase. Since my last review, the AI App Builder has been the biggest addition for me - being able to describe what I need and get a working starting point cuts a lot of the setup work out of building an internal tool. I've also leaned more on the range of data source integrations; connecting our existing databases and APIs is straightforward and means less glue code to maintain on our side. I like how practical Retool is for making connections (resources) and the preloaded components. It allows me to create low-code apps quickly, which are visually appealing and connect with various platforms. I enjoy how with a basic panel, our agents can interact with tools like Intercom, Zapier, Linear without needing to give them full access. The preloaded components are a great advantage, as I can create tools in minutes without having to code each element, like a graph or table. Some connections with APIs are still not so up-to-date, which means that sometimes I have to do it externally. Also, the memory limit for libraries that can be downloaded from an app, if it were higher, would be perfect. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I appreciate Retool because it allows me to create administrative dashboards quickly and clearly. It offers up-to-date dashboards without needing to code or maintain anything, which simplifies my life. What I like the most is its drag-and-drop principle, which quickly brings our ideas to life by simply selecting the right components. I use Retool to create small dashboards for finances in my company. I appreciate that Retool allows me to create charts and tables easily as well as dashboards, without needing to know how to code. I really like the speed at which we can spin up fully functioning, multiple-page apps with Retool. It's a huge benefit for us as a small startup with a very small (2 person) tech team. Moving things around can be tricky. Would be amazing if moving the order of items in the component tree moved them in the app itself.
