## About Directus
Directus is the collaborative backend for modern applications and AI. Directus sits beside any new or existing SQL database, providing a unified API and visual Studio that transforms your live data into a shared workspace where developers, business teams, and AI agents can build, manage, and act on data together. Engineers get everything they need out of the box: a self-documenting REST and GraphQL API, event hooks for custom logic, granular access control, data workflows, and more. But Directus doesn't stop at the developer layer. The capabilities available through code are equally accessible through an intuitive no-code Studio, giving non-technical users the autonomy to manage content, build drag-and-drop dashboards, handle digital assets, and work on end-to-end internationalization. No tickets, no bottlenecks, no waiting on engineering. This is the foundation that eliminates silos. Developers move fast without sacrificing governance. Business teams operate independently without breaking things. And AI agents participate as first-class citizens: assigned roles, field-level permissions, and collection-level access through the same policy layer that governs every other user on the platform. None of this requires a database migration or introduces vendor lock-in. Directus introspects your schema at runtime, generating a dynamic API and Studio based on your existing architecture. You keep full ownership of your database, full portability across all major SQL vendors, and the ability to write pure SQL. Trusted by global leaders like AT&T, Tripadvisor, Adobe, and Mercedes-Benz, Directus is built for teams that need to move fast and stay secure, whether you're scaling a content-rich application or deploying a global AI initiative.

## Directus Reviews
  ### 1. Directus Brings Flexible, Scalable Modeling for Complex Business Logic

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Directus?**

What I like most about Directus is the flexibility it offers to model complex and diverse business logic in a structured and scalable way.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

Expanding the available layout options for data input would improve usability and make content management more comfortable for editors.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Directus solves the problem of rigid and backend-heavy content management. It gives us the flexibility to model our business logic exactly as needed without building large parts of the backend ourselves. This significantly reduces development effort and allows us to focus more on frontend development and user experience. At the same time, it provides a much better and more intuitive editorial experience compared to our previous system, which will definitely increase efficiency for our content team.

  ### 2. Directus is the GOAT

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chrystal F. | Sr. Director, Content Engineering, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 19, 2024

**What do you like best about Directus?**

DIrectus thought of everything to make an extremely versatile tool! I have had the most amazing experience dealing with the team, they've supported us through and through and offered a product that is literally a blank slate for any use case, but with the bells & whistles unmatched by other products out there on the market for a fraction of the cost. I love using the data model, the flows, and of course the flexibility of extensions and configurations of not only the app but what it can power. We've been able to support almost anything our internal stakeholders can dream up which has levelled up our innovation and efficiency. Thank you, Directus.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

The self-hosted install was a bit tricky to get setup but the incredible support team was able to get us through the issue.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

rapid application development of a CMS, authoring and packaging platform that fuels our educational content player

  ### 3. Directus: Flexible, Low-Code Way to Digitise Your Business

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christos D. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2026

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Directus gives you the flexibility to digitise every aspect of your business with minimal development experience required.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

If it included app-building tools specifically for UIX, it would be perfect.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps me bring all my company’s data into one place, so everything is centralized and easier to manage.

  ### 4. An incredibly flexible headless CMS with powerful customization.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ismail A. | Web Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 16, 2025

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Directus offers a highly intuitive interface backed by a strong API-first approach. I appreciate how easy it is to create relational collections, manage permissions, and integrate with modern frontend frameworks like Vue. The roles and permission system is one of the most flexible I’ve seen, allowing for granular control of data access. I also love that it works on top of an existing SQL database without locking you in.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

While Directus is powerful, the documentation could be more thorough, especially for advanced use cases and self-hosting with Docker. Some features like workflows or relational filters need further refinement. The system can occasionally feel too technical for non-developers despite its clean UI.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Directus solves the problem of managing complex relational data without locking you into a proprietary system. It allows me to build flexible, scalable backends quickly while keeping full control over my database, which speeds up development and simplifies content management.

  ### 5. Enterprise-ready headless CMS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2025

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Directus has significantly sped up our team's development, particularly thanks to its built-in CRUD endpoints, authentication, storage, and a robust row-level and field-level permission system. We thoroughly enjoy Flows, which have proven incredibly powerful and reliable when building complex integrations. Additionally, we appreciate the ability to create custom endpoints, which have expanded the standard Directus and enabled seamless interaction with external systems. Given the size of our database, comprising over 400 tables, working with Directus has been a tremendous asset in efficiently managing and interacting with our data.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

Directus is continuously evolving based on the contributions of its community. This is a positive aspect, but it can also be problematic when dealing with a large codebase like ours. Often, introducing new features leads to breaking changes, requiring significant refactoring to maintain compatibility with the latest version.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Directus has helped us significantly increase our speed by providing fast and easy access to data in our large database. Its out-of-the-box features allowed us to quickly develop the frontend without needing to focus on backend complexities for a while, enabling our team to move faster and be more productive.

  ### 6. Great product, great team, great service

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Carlos G. | Director of Engineering, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 12, 2025

**What do you like best about Directus?**

After developing two in-house CMS systems, we decided to take another look at what's new in the CMS landscape and started evaluating potential vendors. It's impressive to see so many different options and feature sets in the products.

What made Directus stand out to us was the flexibility of the system (in terms of features and deployment options) and the ease at which we can integrate it into our system. While Directus does not have all of the other bells and whistles of their competitors, its solid architecture and design more than makes up for them.

We have also been impressed by their customer success team and the engagement with the organization in general. It's quite impactful when a CEO joins a sync-up call to go over their roadmap or when the CTO schedules a meeting to hear about our unique needs when it comes to content versioning, environments and deployment processes.

At the end of the day, our relationship with Directus is less of a vendor/client one and more of a partnership. This distinction has been pivotal since we are staking a good portion of our project functionality into the Directus and having a strong partner as we migrate onto a new system will be key to the success of our project and business.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

The majority of our feedback from our internal users has been around Directus' content editor user interface. The UI can be clunky at times (editing children collections in a side drawer or the lack of collection relationship information resulting in us getting lost in our component hierarchy), we have confidence in the development team to continue making improvements and addressing these issues in the future.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Directus is providing a strong foundation to build our mobile and web apps on. Our content, configuration, and menu system is all dynamic since we tailor our products to our client needs. Directus provides a lot of flexibility in modeling our system as well as extensibility points to provide business-unique functionality.

  ### 7. Really good tooling

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sara L. | Sales & Marketing Tech Lead, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Directus?**

We've had a great experience using Directus as a tool—it has proven to be highly flexible and intuitive. One of the standout aspects is its support for a wide range of use cases, whether we need to structure data for internal tools or build custom workflows. The platform offers excellent support, both through documentation and community channels, which has made troubleshooting and learning straightforward.

What we especially appreciate is the flexibility in tailoring the data model to fit our exact needs without requiring heavy backend customization. It allows for rapid iteration and empowers both technical and non-technical team members to collaborate effectively.

Overall, Directus has become a valuable part of our stack thanks to its balance of structure and freedom.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

The search is kept even when refreshing the screen

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Headless CMS

  ### 8. Directus is the CMS more people should know about!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dan R. | Director of Engineering, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2025

**What do you like best about Directus?**

We’re currently evaluating Directus and it stands out well above the other CMS' we've tested so far. We genuinely love it, because it really is flexible, open (which is great for a technology team who want to expand and improve for our teams), and doesn’t force any specific way of working.

We are self-hosting, which is simple and well-supported. You're not tied into any platform or service. We had it running in our own infrastructure quickly, with no surprises. It's relatively easy to configure, and we stay in control of our data and stack.

Forking and extending the platform works exactly how you'd want. We’ve already thought about a few internal tools we're likely to build. The structure looks like it's easy to understand and modify without having to rewrite anything major, which again is key for us, we don't want to reinvent the wheel.

The flexibility is on another level. You can build the data model to suit your actual project, not try to jam it into someone else's idea of how content should work, again, the fine-grained control of the data is so good.

It's API first, so it's great if you want something that's headless by nature, not transformed into a headless solution.

The admin interface is clean and configurable. You can change how things are displayed, create roles and permissions easily, and set it up for technical and non-technical users alike. Our marketing team like the look and feel and find it easy to produce content.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

I wouldn't say we dislike anything, but things we'd love to see changes on, would be:

The APIs are simple to work with. they’re powerful, but not always intuitive. Some operations feel more complex than they need to be, especially when dealing with nested data or filters, once we got the hang of it, it was fine, but took some time.

Query strings can get excessively long. Particularly with more complex filters or relational data. It’s not unreadable, but not the cleanest either, it can be easy to make mistakes if you're not careful.

Image handling could be better. Files are always delivered as separate requests, we get the ID back only, but it's not the end of the world,
we’d just prefer if images / urls could be returned directly in the initial API payload.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the problem of rigid CMS structures. We’re not boxed into fixed content types or workflows, we define our own schema and logic which having multiple channels to serve this is so helpful.

  ### 9. Ecellent CMS to for rapid turnarounds while maintaining ownership of data and empowering users

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Markus . | CTO, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 10, 2025

**What do you like best about Directus?**

- Getting up and running quickly (especially with Directus Cloud)
- Stellar support (friendly and technical)
- Keeping ownership of data, with little to no vendor lock-in
- Rapid prototyping & turnaround via intuitive schema builder, no/low-code automations (Directus Flow) and powerful custom code (Directus Extensions)
- OOTB REST & GraphQL API
- Solid permissions management
- Built-in DAM

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

- Admin UI can be a bit slow with large data views (500+ rows per page)
- Large CSV data imports can be cumbersome
- Type-safe code extensions via Typescript is incomplete (but can be solved for)

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Data management of of 10,000s of products and 100s of product collections
- Self-serve schema administration
- Data syncing across different systems

  ### 10. Powerful, flexible CMS with excellent extensibility and automation tools

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Khalif L. | Lead Front End Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 12, 2025

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Directus is incredibly flexible and integrates perfectly into our tech stack. One standout feature is how easy it is to build and deploy custom extensions (especially with VueJS and TypeScript) which allows us to tailor the UI and functionality to specific workflows and use cases.

Flows are another highlight. We’ve automated many backend processes without needing additional services or infrastructure. From simple field updates to complex branching logic, the visual Flow builder is intuitive and powerful, saving us countless hours of development and maintenance time.

Using the cloud version means we don’t worry about infrastructure, while still retaining full control over data structures, roles, and permissions. The API-first approach makes frontend integration seamless.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

One pain point is syncing changes between environments. Schema and Flow migration from staging to production still requires a lot of manual effort.
Additionally, while Flows are powerful, debugging can be tricky due to limited visibility into execution logs.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We previously lacked a unified, user-friendly system for managing media and web content across our internal teams. Directus solves this by centralizing our media library that is now now directly managed by the UI team, eliminating the need for custom admin tools. It also simplifies multilingual content management through automated translation workflows.
Managing access for multiple teams used to be chaotic; with Directus, we’ve set up fine-grained roles and permissions across six teams, reducing human error and support overhead. Also the REST API provides seamless integration with our Nuxt frontend, enabling us to ship dynamic, content-rich features faster and with minimal backend development.

  ### 11. A terrific product with endless use cases

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt N. | Engineering Team Lead, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 11, 2025

**What do you like best about Directus?**

The data studio is easy to use and works really well on mobile which is an underrated feature.

Directus offers great digital asset management features, data model and backend-as-a-service features, and CMS features. It's very flexible, so businesses can tailor to the use cases they have.

At Destify, we're looking to first use Digital Asset Management capabilities to deliver world-class image optimization for our galleries and carousel images.

We also hope to use it for hotel and room metadata, eliminating a home-spun admin system to do the same. It will provide easy REST and GraphQL access to pull the fields we want.

The RBAC scoping is top-notch and that's a difficult thing to do!

I can't say enough good things about this product, explore it for any use cases you have for low-code, BaaS, CMS, or DAM usage.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

Consider the cloud offering ramping up in price when you scale to meet that growth. A generous free tier of users and/or request quota would be better than a row limit. It's difficult for Team Leads to know just how big Directus will get because it has so many use cases.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Low-code backend-as-a-service and database management as well as digital asset management

  ### 12. Directus is a fantastic headless CMS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2025

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Directus accomplishes all of our content management needs. Has all the features you would expect out of a CMS with an easy-to-use user interface. There is plenty of documentation for Directus which made setup and configuration easy. Directus has a lot out of the box components to use to build your data model. If there isn't something available for you, you can create your own through extensions.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

I have yet to come across any major dislikes with Directus.

The process for data migration between multiple instances of Directus could be improved, specifically if you want to migrate a data model from a development instance to production.

Directus has a really powerful API but building out the specific URL to get only the data you need can be time consuming, especially with nested relationships. Directus could benefit from a tool to build out those complex URLs through the UI.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used a legacy in house-built CMS system that was dated and very hard to manage. We needed a new modern CMS system that would require minimum development support while allowing our content authors the ability to manage the content themselves. We are able to build new data models without any code releases and give more power to our content authors.

  ### 13. Great headless CMS with great support too...!!!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jimi S. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 25, 2025

**What do you like best about Directus?**

As a newcomer to headless CMS, I am totally impressed with the capabilities this presents to our business in so many ways, for mobile app development, plugin development and many others. It has so far been a total joy to use and when things have gone a little off course the support has been second to none. I would highly recommend this to anyone considering the same. Having worked in backend development for many years, while I would agree at the bare metal you can get into a lot of granularity of control, I would say that all in all I fail to see how for most projects Directus won't tick most if not all boxes and more...!

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

So far I have come across nothing.....!!

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Content delivery through mobile and web

  ### 14. Directus: A Scalable, Flexible, and Reliable CMS/BaaS for Projects of Any Size

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 03, 2025

**What do you like best about Directus?**

I have found Directus to be an outstanding platform that is scalable, flexible, and reliable. I first used it successfully for a startup multi-tenant SaaS product, and therefore had no hesitation in recommending its implementation at ColX Group, leveraging it as the primary CMS that powers our 4 brands websites.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

Directus is generally easy to use, though the JSON output can be a little difficult to work with at times, especially for complex relationships. Once understood and configured properly, however, it remains a very reliable and flexible solution.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Directus serves as the primary CMS powering all four of our group brand websites

  ### 15. Easy to use and super customizable

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hugo R. | Head of ecommerce, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Directus?**

It's both very intuitive to use and powerful - I never run into any setup I could not do in Directus.
Their team is top-notch and always very helpful. We could get started and onboard people very easily. Their API is very easy to work with as well

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

I have not run into any issue so far with Directus either from the implementation or something else.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Directus as a way to feed content to our website. This has been our headless CMS for many years and I don't see us changing with our setup.

  ### 16. Beauty, simplicity and power - I love Directus!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Pharmaceuticals | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 16, 2025

**What do you like best about Directus?**

In the end it is a minimalistic, but beautiful and very powerful UI for a database. The initial implementation/setup is quick and the customer support of Directus kick-starts you with a pretty decent base, based on your project requirements. But with features that can easily make it a fully-fledged CMS, as well. And much more when utilizing the many comunity-driven extensions available in the marketplace. With the "flows" feature it's very easy to add powerful automation and the development team behind Directus has the right mindset of abstraction for new features that gives you the maximum power to achieve even complex goals using the UI. As there is a wide range of SDKs and examples / starter kits available, integration in your application is easy, as well.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

If there was a free plan, or at least a very low cost plan that doesn't cost me more than USD 100 a year, Directus would be my preferred BaaS solution for my private projects, as well. I would wish for some features Directus lacks compared to other headless CMS providers, like shared data models across instances, branching and some other, but the Directus team also comes up with new features quickly and I have trust that Directus will become more and more powerful while maintaining high flexibility in the near future.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating a powerful yet easy to maintain database for the complex and diverse data structures required in our project.

  ### 17. One of the more customizable CMS's out there!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Geet J. | Vice President of Product Engineering, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 16, 2025

**What do you like best about Directus?**

The configurability and ease at which you can make new collections and define exactly how you want the data to display is amazing.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

So far there is a very few things and any issuer I have had, their support has solved.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The complete CMS backend for all of Meow Wolf, our app, in exhibition content and so much more.

  ### 18. Powerful, but easy to use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 10, 2025

**What do you like best about Directus?**

I like that Directus sits directly on top of Postgres. It's very powerful and keeps on adding more value with each release. At the same time, it's still easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

I wish the UI could be a bit mor flexible.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're currenly using Directus mostly as a backend

  ### 19. More then just a CMS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ithan L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2023

**What do you like best about Directus?**

( This is GPT *corrected*, but an honest review! )

Directus is a total lifesaver if you're juggling database stuff. It's like having a magic wand for creating tables super fast. But wait, there's more! It also takes care of the boring bits like making forms, cool UIs, and even validations.

What's really cool? Custom views for each user. Yup, it personalizes things so everyone gets what they need. And for the tech-savvy, there's a killer API, GraphQL, and even real-time updates with sockets!

In short, Directus is not just another tool; it's your go-to for making database management a breeze and a lot more fun. 🚀👍

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

Honestly, I'm not sure! There is nothing that I dislike, maybe I would like to have a better UI for flows? but that's about it

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Directus has been a game-changer for us by streamlining all our database needs. It allows us to easily create tables and store our data, which we can then access either through PostgreSQL queries or ready-to-use API endpoints. This saves us a ton of time since we don't have to build these APIs or UIs ourselves. It's made managing our data simpler and more efficient, letting us focus on other important aspects of our projects.

  ### 20. Highly recommended!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lucas S. | Senior Business Intelligence Analyst - North East Link, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 10, 2023

**What do you like best about Directus?**

It takes all the complexity out of being a front end, back end, and database developer. Point and click with a significant number of possibilities, and it takes such a tiny amount of time to deliver a POC and not much longer to release something fully featured.

The inclusion of Flows has been an absolute game changer and I can't imagine living without them.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

I get anxiety when there are new releases - it's not rare for a new feature or tweak to break an old one, and these regressions sometimes don't get prioritized like they should.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We don't have a software team, so do not have any front end devs and myself as the solo member of a back end team focusing on data. I can do all the behind the scenes work using data studio and not have to worry about the front end, as the Data Studio is a pretty reasonable replacement for building your own front end.

  ### 21. Fantastic DB CMS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Benjamin R. | Web Developer, Broadcast Media, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Directus allows for incredibly powerful usage of your database, all without touching any SQL. Nothing is proprietary, all of it is just your DB and the data. Through the API, you can easily do anything with your data that you want. There are so many opportunities to customize the dashboard and app itself, making it especially useful for allowing users to easily manipulate data (but with the permissions - only as much as you want them to). With extensions, you can make it do basically anything you can think of for a backend to do. Creating custom hooks, endpoints, interfaces, and whole visual panels. Also, their support team (shoutout Will/Jonathan/José!) is top-notch with their enterprise plans, and the Discord server is very active and willing to help. I use it for multiple projects, and spinning up each project just keeps getting easier as I know all the things Directus can do.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

One potential downside is documentation. They are getting much better at documenting new features and ways of doing things, but some things you may still need to ask questions on in the Discord to get an idea of how it works. I find myself referencing source code sometimes to just get my head around how something works, since the docs either don't really cover it or the docs aren't fleshed out enough. But again, the Discord (and their support if you have that plan/Enterprise) is extremely useful for this.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

No other DB CMS we found allows for the combo power + ease-of-use that Directus does. We use it to allow user data entry, web front-end display/filtering/sorting of collection items, and automatic systems pulling from APIs. We've heavily expanded our business operations and increased revenue due to what Directus has enabled us to do.

  ### 22. Top notch headless CMS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stefan I. | Jamstack Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2023

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

I can't think of anything I do not dislike.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Directus solves the problem of managing and structuring content for my web application in a database-agnostic way. It provides a powerful API and an intuitive interface for handling complex data structures. This benefits me by streamlining the development process, allowing me to focus on creating a rich user experience rather than worrying about data management. **Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2023

**What do you like best about Directus?**

The support Directus offers has been exemplary, during our migration to start using Directus, we had many questions and their support has been responsive and helpful during the whole process.

The open-source nature of Directus, has allowed us to contribute fixes and improvements to the product, without having to wait for their engineering team to implement them.

The language support out of the box, was one of the reason we went with Directus.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

The lack of clear documentation, but this has been improving since our move to Directus. Since we started using Directus, the documentation has improved 10 fold.

The lack of some specific customization options around extensions, but this is to be expected with all products.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Deploying multiple websites with 13 languages. The ease and customization of how we want to use Directus to deliver our content has been fantastic.

  ### 24. Directus Excellent for Backend Tools

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Easy to deploy and easy to learn. Had this up and running in very little time and had most things figured out.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

Very week at arithmetic and can do with better reporting.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Very fun product to use and deploy

  ### 25. Clean interface with lots of functionality

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Ease of duplicating landing pages and editing data.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

No way to duplicate landing pages without making a change to the original one, which can be risky.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating landing pages for CRM emails.

  ### 26. Extremely versatile open source headless cms

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Magnus E. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 09, 2023

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Probably the best headleass CMS out there, and all the built-in components and modules makes Directus the perfect choice for whatever project you are trying to build. Besides the pure database modelling capabilities, the Directus Flows is awesome when needing more complex features. The role-based access control is superb and enables granular control of who gets access to what. And that the admin-interface is entirely build with Vue js is an added benefit for me, but abolutely no knowledge of Vue is need to get the most out of Directus.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

Not much actually, considering that its so feature rich and customizable its hard to dislike anything about Directus, although the learing curve might be a tiny bit steep for beginners, but due to great documentations, tutorials and the community that is not really an obsctale at all.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Modelling the database and having granular role-based access control makes Directus achieve my application requirements.

  ### 27. Universal data platform with smart UI on top of a RDBMS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maik J. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2023

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Directus is easy to use and combines a lot features: easy-to-use REST- & GraphQL-APIs for developers, a smart User-Interface for clients, data modeling tools for business analysts.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

Directus could be improved at the core with a CMS-like interface (structured content editor), so you don't have to rely on 3rd-party plugins for this use case.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Directus creates a very short feedback loop between business analysts modeling data structures, developers using the automated APIs to develop applications and clients entering their data in pretty & flexible forms.

  ### 28. Save me a lot of time, every day

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nils T. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 30, 2023

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Iterative app design is made incredibly easy with Directus as a backend. Its ability to generate consistent and reliable database structures and APIs has allowed me to quickly prototype, test, and deploy new versions of my app without any hassle.

Highly extensible by nature. This has enabled me to customize and expand my applications according to my specific requirements. The platform's open-source nature allows for seamless integration of custom extensions, ensuring that I can tailor my app to my exact needs.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

Sometimes new features are pushed too quickly into release, and I have developed the habit of waiting several months before using them in production.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The WYSIWYG database generation enables quick schema iteration, streamlining the design process.
A visually appealing and functional backend is generated automatically as you build your database, enhancing admins experience and allowing non techs admins to tack full control over the data.
The excellent API and SDK provided by Directus significantly reduce development time, increasing efficiency and productivity.

  ### 29. Unfriendly support and unethical price change

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Leisure, Travel & Tourism | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 10, 2023

**What do you like best about Directus?**

The software worked with small glitches but worked fine. Very easy to use and fast to setup.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

Recent price change that was 5x increase.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy setup and replacement for custom Laravel panel.

  ### 30. We use this instead of Firebase, Hasura or Supabase

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Valentin B. | Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 16, 2022

**What do you like best about Directus?**

It's like a self-hosted Firebase or hasura for SQL databases. It can also serve as a backend app to manage your data. A javascript sdk can be used in React, Vue, Svelte, etc. Also offers a GraphQL and REST API. Flexible permissions with roles and fully ReBAC-capable authorization. Use your existing LDAP, OpenID or OAuth2 provider or use Directus Auth, which offers 2FA and sends password reset emails etc.

Configure no code endpoints with Directus Flows or write custom extensions for GUI fields, endpoints or panels in typescript, Vue (frontend) and ExpressJS. Improve developer experience and handle DB migrations with Directus.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

You can do everything with Directus. While you can use anything for authN (google auth, apple, keycloak, LDAP), authZ and permissions could be improved. The feature set is sufficient for blogs or most applications. You can even use it as a backbone for your SaaS. But it's cumbersome to build applications that allow users to grant privileges and create roles themselves because you can only use relation-based access control.

It's not yet possible to subscribe to data changes (the SDK polls at regular intervals) as of October 2022. However, it's promised to arrive later this year.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're developing apps with it at faster speeds. We can skip the whole backend part.

  ### 31. Simple and innovative backend solution for various types of projects

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeroen L. | Senior Frontend Developer & DevOps engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 04, 2022

**What do you like best about Directus?**

It all started with the ease of "just quickly set up a project" for small projects or internal data. In a short time, we discovered that so much more was possible! We can actually replace a lot of our Laravel/Nova projects without writing additional extensions. If we do need to write custom logic then that is also super easy to do!

Since the last update, Directus has workflow support which has opened up a whole new world for us and we now have to write even less custom logic

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

There's nothing I don't really like about Directus. If something could improve this even further it would be support for multiple roles per user and maybe a sort of ou-of-the-box tenancy support but that would be very custom to our use cases.

**Recommendations to others considering Directus:**

Just try it once, its super easy to setup locally and have a quick look

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have a lot of small Laravel installations with Nova, which is not that innovative for our customers. Also, all that data needed custom-written API endpoints. Directus allows us to model data quickly and have instant API endpoints that we can use in our applications. Simple projects and simple APIs written with Laravel/nova still need a lot of maintenance with every update, while in Directus we use the application without any custom code and it can be updated by simply running 'npm update'

  ### 32. Amazing piece of kit

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ravinder S. | Senior Full Stack Developer R&D, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2022

**What do you like best about Directus?**

API that gives REST and GraphQL.
Built-in Frontend that works as Admin UI as well as Product App.
Very Highly Extensible.
90% configuration and only 10% code.
Increases velocity and lets the team focus on business logic.
Bring your own brand customization.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

Documentation is appalling but open source helps reverse engineer that.
Things like multi-project, multi-database, WebSockets, GraphQL subscriptions are missing.
Some minor lack of configuration on the front end platform

**Recommendations to others considering Directus:**

Make documentation better

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mainly it gives us a ready-built CRUD API with an admin UI. The additional benefit is the front end that can be extended and configured.
These two things increases velocity of new products that I built.

  ### 33. We regularly use Directus and we are particularly attached to the power and flexibility of the tool.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kiril G. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2022

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Powerful tool offering a lot of flexibility. The back office is very intuitive.
It is possible to do many things with Directus.
The tool can be used in open source and very customizable

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

Nothing displeases us in Directus. The axis of improvement can be oriented for the use that e-merchants can have with the tool. For us is the best Headless Content Managment System

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Directus allowed us to develop websites using our favorite framework: next.js. The content is dirved by API and we can make a lot of integrations with another tools

  ### 34. Game Changer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Directus?**

The more flexible tool I've ever tried. I used other Headless CMS, and I can say Directus is the only one that takes content management to another level. Extremely friendly and modern for the users and with the database mirroring and the different ways make the information accessible, it is the most potent tool for any development approach.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

I don't dislike anything, but I could say the latest version is very new, still in progress for a stable release, and it is possible to find some minor issues. I've been looking at the project, and they are working hard to have a stable version in late 2021. The documentation is good, but maybe it would be good to have more practical cases.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

New projects require having APIs, and make them from scratch is very time-consuming. Directus allows to save all that time and focus on the clients' needs and having by default an excellent and modern content management tool. The database mirroring is outstanding, and we migrated in minutes very complex database models.

  ### 35. Amazing experience with self-hosted Directus

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Giovanni G. | Head of IT, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 21, 2022

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Easy to use, reliable and endless possibilities of customization

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

Nothing, we have been using Directus for the last 16 months and we are having a great experience

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Directus acts as both a headless CMS and data platform, so it solves 2 problems at the same time: exposing and retaining our data

  ### 36. Superb product

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anton S. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 26, 2022

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Directus is a flexible, easy-to-use product that has everything to fuel projects of any type and complexity.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

Some features are missing. But the road map is rich and we look forward for future developments.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Content management, roles and permission. A platform to manage all our needs in one place.

  ### 37. Directus is a an Excellent Choice for any Data Driven Experience

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 16, 2022

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Easy to use yet extensible, simple UI but robust features/abilities, and quick implementation!

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

There have been significant strides in the developer documentation and experience, but there is still room for growth!

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Directus is powering multiple websites and apps, from a simple website CMS to a complex membership system, to a directory for identity accounts, etc.

  ### 38. Great Experience with Directus

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2022

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Directus has been very responsive throughout our engagement and was very accomodating to get us set up and going on an enterprise instance quickly. The product itself has met or exceeded our expectations.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

I've yet to run into any issues with the product or the team!

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Directus as a backend to a corporate blog that we need to be highly configurable and API-driven. It allows us to build the way we like, and not worry about software/package maintenance.

  ### 39. Performant, Scalable Headless CMS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Qarib H. | Head of Development, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 07, 2021

**What do you like best about Directus?**

The team behind Directus updates the software at a very fast pace, they are quick to respond to bugs or queries as well.
Version 9 of the CMS was a game-changer when it came to performance.
CMS itself is very extendable.

Currently the best CMS in the open-source stack.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

Nothing, in particular, lacks a few key features which I think would be added somewhere in the future; e.g.
- Module to bring in data from a product makes it difficult to switch to Directus for any existing project
- Integrations support via plugins/addons. Marketplace to support integrations.
- Improved internalization support for the products created within the CMS
- One central installation on a server to manage multiple apps

**Recommendations to others considering Directus:**

Spin up a test instance, which is pretty easy to set up on DigitalOcean to try it out first, see if it meets your requirements

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Currently using it as the main Headless CMS for the projects we create

  ### 40. Solid, easy to use, dependable CMS

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian M. | Physician Consultant & Principal Cloud Engineer, Solutions Architect, Full-stack Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2021

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Directus is an SQL wrapper. One can start with an existing DB schema or use the app to build the schema. When one's done, the resultant is a database that could be moved to another solution with little effort. This ensures that I'm using a product but not locked into it.
That said, I can't see any reason we would leave it in the near term.
It now works with most databases, the admin tool is easy to use (even for the non-technical), it provides an API, security is solid, documentation is clean, open-source support is solid, and the enterprise offerings fit all our possible needs.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

I'm generally not the biggest fan of CMS's. As a developer, one should be solid in DB's, and in the era of microservices, one should be able to work up the other infrastructure quickly. This one-off approach creates a faster system. However, many instances don't need those percentage points in performance, and instead, value is gained from the ability to drop in a solution quickly. This fits the bill.
I'd also add that going back to v7, the major releases were too buggy, and the first couple of months after the release saw a lot of churn.
After v8.3, this product has been solid with excellent updates.
The first rc's for v9 were enticing, and I am happy to note they don't appear to be releasing the v9 major release until the churn-period is over.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Directus for various cataloging of content that feeds out to other systems or over the internet where extreme optimization isn't necessary. Directus has good performance.
This provides an interface where non-technical people can enter content, technical people can keep it clean, and Directus Cloud maintains it. Simple, dependable, low effort.

  ### 41. Adaptable, easy to use, UI - friendly, headless API

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jasper v. | Full stack developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Directus?**

The most helpful of Directus is that the UI is super friendly, which helps build your custom headless API. The setup is straightforward to complete; you can have Directus running in like two minutes. Also, the Discord channel is very active, and everyone is willing to help you.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

The downside of Directus is that it is open source. It may be a positive thing if Directus could reach more developers. The community will be bigger and more people are willing to help fix issues.

**Recommendations to others considering Directus:**

If you're in doubt about using Directus, think of two things: Do I want a UI-friendly solution to build up my custom headless API (yes, then choose Directus). Do I want to use an active open source solution that has multiple updates each month by an enthusiastic group of developers? If yes, then choose Directus.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At this moment, I have several NuxtJS applications running with Directus as a headless API. Before I tried Directus, I was using the WordPress JSON API. I have never had any regrets after switching over to Directus.

  ### 42. Our new favorite headless CMS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Martin B. | Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Directus?**

The ability to easily define complex relations while at the same time making it simple for users to input data at scale without having to touch the database or restart the application. It just works on the fly.
It‘s also important to mention that the core team makes every effort to encourage their community to share ideas or criticism and continue to adapt the application based on community feedback. It's truly an open-source project. Pair it with a nice, responsive and good-looking UI and you‘ll have a really nice product with tons of features without overstraining the user.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

We started using Directus on the first RCs for v9, which has been a rocky ride, but that was to be expected. However, since this project is open-source it enabled us to work on fixes ourselves and contribute them back afterward. Other issues (we just reported) were addressed quickly.
Another thing that was a bit of a pain point for us is the migration of the schema between multiple stages. We ended up building our own tooling for that.

**Recommendations to others considering Directus:**

Use the existing demo or just spin up a docker container and play around a bit. Model your first models and show them to your users. The beauty of Directus is best experienced live.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We implemented Directus as a backend for over one thousand agency websites. We have two internal teams who input most of the data and plan to implement a self-service. In this context, Directus powerful permission model really helped us. Overall, a significant benefit of Directus compared to our old solution is that it is much easier to build good relations between our data. This allows our users to input the data much more efficiently.

  ### 43. A perfect combination of design, functionality and customization

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alejandro C. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2021

**What do you like best about Directus?**

The first thing that strikes the attention is the care of its aesthetics, for some time now many web applications seem to be cut with the same pattern, designed with the same fashionable framework, directus has personality, a very intuitive style of its own.

The next most surprising thing is the amount of data types, visual elements and options that allow you to create almost any data model and administration interface with a few clicks for any user with very basic notions, in addition, it has a system that allows you to create any type of extension for more advanced users with very specific needs.

The user management and especially the permissions is one of the best I've seen, it covers any common use case, super flexible and granular.

The API design is impeccable, they have thought of everything.

It never ceases to amaze me, you can tell that the team is very close to the needs of its users, they add new features very quickly, they listen to all proposals, the experience is very noticeable.

For my work, it has been the best I have found in years, it allows me to simplify more than 60% of the creation of any web application without compromising anything and to focus on creating interfaces, ultimately reduce time and costs without losing quality.

100% recommended, all other alternatives I've tried fall very short.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

Overall I am very happy, but, sometimes I need more documentation, although, it is reasonable as they keep adding new features.

**Recommendations to others considering Directus:**

Try their cloud version, create some data models, play, read the documentation and if you have doubts join their community on Discord and ask questions, they answer everything very fast.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Directus is a customizable CMS and much more, you could say what is a No-Code or Low-Code tool, or a data schema modeling tool or an API builder.

In my case, I use it as a CMS and API.

  ### 44. Fast API, Easy to use, Free Forever!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shea L. | Web Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2021

**What do you like best about Directus?**

The Directus interface is very easy to use, it's built to be efficient and is exactly that, my users don't have any issues with understanding how to create, read, update or delete rows of data. As a developer, the API is very easy to work with making it quick to get the data I need. The recent move to Node is a move in the right direction and works exceptionally speedy!

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

There's nothing I don't like about Directus.

**Recommendations to others considering Directus:**

I highly recommend giving it a go yourself, it's very quick to get setup and ddemo It's absolutely worth giving it a go if you're considering using a Headless CMS. There's no pay-walls and very easy to extend with a gratious Discord community when it comes to support.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The API makes it very easy to interface with a range of integrations, from basic website articles to hardware connections.

  ### 45. Great product, great support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bas L. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2022

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Flexibility and great user experience and ease of creating relational databases

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

It is too easy to create unefficient models. Flexibility comes with that downside...

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easily creating data models and content management

  ### 46. Directus is the admin panel I've been searching for

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 23, 2021

**What do you like best about Directus?**

I've tried many quick-start admin environments across many technologies such as Laravel Nova, Forestry.io, Strapi, and many others. What I like about Directus is that it provides Auth, API, media management, a great GUI, a fast admin experience, and tons of customization points where I want them. Everything I thought I would need to look for was already there. It was both simple and powerful.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

It's possible to corrupt schemas and data, and that is a hopeless feeling when it happens.

**Recommendations to others considering Directus:**

The Docker setup is handy! I started there with no regrets

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am trying to stand up an admin panel for a SPA where I can quickly seed information to be provided by an API. and be consumed by a javascript front end. Directus is a great fit. I have realized that in the time it would take me to sketch an ERD, I can build the database, put it in production, and have auth and API available.

  ### 47. Hidden gem and next big cms, already beating Strapi and others

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nikola T. | Software Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 04, 2022

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Directus is by far (imho) the most advanced, both developer and non-developer friendly cms. Do not be fooled by the likely fact that you haven't heard of it; it is a must-try!

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

Currently, it lacks typings for typescript and some developer documentation. I'm assuming it will be updated by the time you are reading this.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are migrating all of the back-office and revision systems to directus. We are talking 100s of database tables and gigabytes of data.

  ### 48. Perfect for your backend needs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bart D. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 18, 2021

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Directus is an excellent choice for creating backend systems.
You can extend the base of Directus to whatever your project needs.
For example, you can create custom interfaces logic and much more.
On top of that, Directus takes care of your SQL queries, which means you can make a project way faster.
Also, the API supports JSON REST and GraphQL.
The backend schema`s for the Rest and GrapQL API is updated in real-time.
After adding/changing a field, it will be there, ready to be used as CRUD!

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

The only downside I have experienced with Directus is that it is not 100% stable yet. This is because Directus V9 is still a release candidate.

**What problems is Directus solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have made webshops/websites and other custom software in combination with Directus.

  ### 49. Simple and Fast

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vivek P. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Directus?**

Core developers keep on improving and adding features based on the community inputs.

**What do you dislike about Directus?**

1. Migration between different environments is more complicated.
2. Sort by relational field is a missing feature, might not be required by all.

**Recommendations to others considering Directus:**
