What I've always appreciated about XOOPS is that it's a solid, open-source platform for building community websites. The user and permission management is particularly well done; you can easily control everything. The problem is that it's showing its age. The interface is completely outdated; it's not very user-friendly these days. And the worst part is that there aren't many new modules or stylish themes anymore. Compared to other CMSs, updates and installation are a real hassle; you really have to get your hands dirty. Modularity: Xoops' modular design allows flexibility in adding features and customizing functionality. Various modules and themes already exist to easily integrate, though litle older. - While the wide variety of modules is one of the advantages, it is one of the disadvantages as well. You need the modules to expand the system, but the modules themselves are not all easy to install and run, and some time lack enough documentation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It is a product with a lot of experience as it has been on the market for quite some time. Its installation is quite simple, since being completely web-based, only a web server (such as Apache) and the MySQL database engine are needed, all of which are free and open-source. It is completely based on modules, so if the necessary module is not available, it can always be sought among third-party products or even created by ourselves if we have the necessary knowledge.
