Stable, Capable and Time-Tested **Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** September 16, 2025 **What do you like best about WordPerfect?** I absolutely love the "Reveal Codes" feature, the Outlining/Numbering feature and the ability to BOTH format on-the-fly and edit after-the-fact. Reveal codes shows you every change in the document EXACTLY where it happens - and you can use it to place the cursor exactly where you need the change to occur. You can actually see the change written on the screen. No more looking at dialog boxes or scrolling through menus to figure out what just happened. REVEAL CODES tells you and shows you where it happened. Don't like the font color you picked? Place the cursor right after the change code and backspace. Your text remains but the color reverts to what it was. I do a great deal of writing that requires I use industry-standard outlining/formatting/numbering. No problem. I've created custom "styles" that I have used for years, from version to version. If I need to tweak the format or adjust the outlining "system", no problem, I adjust the style and can then chose whether to apply that style to old documents or not. My choice. I can cut/paste a wide variety of graphics/photos/other documents into my work. I can footnote, create tables of content,etc. Easy. The best part: I can see the change AND to formatting codes that underlie that change. No guessing or trying to figure out where the change starts/ends. I also use "reveal codes" to purge my documents of orphan format changes. Ever placed your cursor between two words and started typing only to find the text showing up underlined and bold even though the existing text was neither .... and then you remembered that section you deleted .... and apparently didn't get all of it? Now you can leave yourself a nice, clean document by making sure old formats, page breaks, whatever have truly been deleted. I have used WordPerfect for over 40 years while also having to use MS Word because of requirements of some clients. So I know both programs well. While WordPerfect is not as ubiquitous as MS Word or as widely used as it once was, that's only because of Microsoft's practice of giving MS Word away. WordPerfect is reasonably priced, infinitely capable /customizable and has ease of use features that MS Word has never been able to beat. **What do you dislike about WordPerfect?** It is no longer as widely used as it once was so it's not as easy to find documents already in the WordPerfect file format. But WordPerfect will read/edit most formats - including MS Word - and convert back and forth. So it requires an extra step but then I get all of the other advantages of WordPerfect. **What problems is WordPerfect solving and how is that benefiting you?** Handles structured formats with ease. make editting highly complex documents easy. ### 2. While Word obviously has "their way" WordPerfect's macro capabilites are equally impressive but far easier to code and implement. All of our users love the ability to instantly create letters, envelopes, and forms with the software and how easy it is to implement data from the company's database files into any letter, envelope, print, clear the screen, copy and save data into our other pieces of software all with the click of a personally written macro button (which are also customizable!) I would take WordPerfect over Word any day of the week. **What do you dislike about WordPerfect?** As with many software with PDF ability, I do not like the fact that you cannot directly tie user boxes in the PDF format directly with a database file for "instant" filling. These "Fdf" files that are used are just a ridiculous extra step. **Recommendations to others considering WordPerfect:** I would strongly urge everyone to use WordPerfect or at least give it a solid try. I believe it will be worth your time, especially if you're not really into using Word. **What problems is WordPerfect solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have used Wordperfect in many of its versions since 1995. I have personally written, literally, thousands of macros that allowed our office to go from taking 15m to 1/2 hour working on a claimant's file to literally, down to less than 5 minutes to do multiple things all with just a few clicks. Obviously, saving time per file adds up to better productivity, faster turn arounds on check disbursements, and overall employee and client satisfaction. ### 8. As someone who works in a law firm this is a vital tool. I use this program mainly for letters and account statements. I like how easy it is to move margins, play with text to put things exactly where you'd like them to be. The program also picks up really quick on indents or changes you've made with the text and follows it as you continue writing. Everything looks proportionate. **What do you dislike about WordPerfect?** There is nothing I dislike about the program, I prefer Word Perfect to Microsoft Word alone because I am able to get more out of this program for the type of work I do - professional legal documents and contracts. Perhaps the only thing that can be improved is the saving of documents. I often have difficulty editing already made Word Perfect documents by co-workers where it requires me to save it as a new document. It would be nice to be able to just edit and collaborate on the same document and easily share it with others for them to edit. **Recommendations to others considering WordPerfect:** It's a great easy to use programs to help you create formal professional looking documents at ease. **What problems is WordPerfect solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am able to make the legal documents I prepare at work including letters, contracts and agreements, company resolutions, account statements among others, at ease. These documents are best prepared by Word Perfect because everything looks more professional on this program than using something like Microsoft Word alone. The documents are always well centered. It is much easier to configure reports and fix errors than in Word. Revealing codes is a particularly helpful tool that Word cannot match. It is an easy introduction and also exceptional for those other "MS" things - spreadsheets, notes, and so on. It is easy for individuals to explore and advance. **What do you dislike about WordPerfect?** All in all, things you use regularly are anything but hard to recognize, but when it comes to opening a document that is not used so often, it can be a bit harder to find from time to time. However, I am not the most well-trained person, so I think it might be easier for certain people to figure this out. **Recommendations to others considering WordPerfect:** It is incredible to control reports exactly as you want, without the problem, for example, in words. The main problem is that it is difficult to share datasets in WordPerfect, as Microsoft Word is much more common at work. **What problems is WordPerfect solving and how is that benefiting you?** It executes our macros for arguing and letter aging, which saves me a lot of work. APA, Gost, ISO, Harvard standards, among others, come to complicate the completion of a work with more than 3000 thousand pages that include tables, graphics, images, appointments. Corel WordPerfect considers and shows the handling of this type of complications in a fluid way, in my experience I changed a month of text editing work for only two days. **What do you dislike about WordPerfect?** the low popularity of corel products against the tools made by Microsoft is a point against WordPerfect, a finite universe of users appreciate it for the versatility it offers that places it above the performance shown by Office. **Recommendations to others considering WordPerfect:** Automatic management of margins for legal documents, Offers many options for focused texts such as stories, compatible with open writer and microsoft word, allows to export to pdf. They offer a download of the product for a month of testing, the software allows the change of the options menu to better suit the user's style. It has more shortcuts, easier navigation, easier to redline. I find it comical that the Federal Courts require us to submit Orders in WordPerfect and state Courts require us to submit them in Word. **What do you dislike about WordPerfect?** I really do not have any complaints about WordPerfect. It was at one time fairly expensive to purchase but the price point now is actually reasonable. I wish that it was more widely used. The interface is simple in a good way and most of the options are easy to find when looking to edit or change. Overall, works like Microsoft word and it gets the job done. **What do you dislike about WordPerfect?** Sometimes the formatting is off and it can get saved with the weird formatting, you'll have to learn how to work around some instances where your font will overlap - usually I just have to delete it and paste what I want from a different window or mess with the line spacing. **Recommendations to others considering WordPerfect:** Play around with it, you'll get good at it. If you can use Microsoft Word - you can use this. **What problems is WordPerfect solving and how is that benefiting you?** It;s easy to save and access proforma files, we make a lot of contractual agreements with WordPerfect and you can easily send it to someone via the program to sign, we rarely use that function but it is nice to have, we've never had problems making new contracts because it supports our forms and usually keeps them tidy. All the other positive reviews of WordPerect itself are right on. I only wish the same were true of the advertised compatibility between the spreadsheet part of WordPerfect Office (QuattroPro) and Microsoft Excel. My best recommendation: Use WordPerfect as a word processor but do not get rid of Microsoft Excel. **What do you dislike about WordPerfect?** Corel tech support--only free for the first 30-days to deal with installation problems, is at the typical level of large software companies now--suggesting first some boilerplate advice, then concluding the problem must lie elsewhere. As a programmer since my first IBM 8088 in 1982, I've learned that when a PC works flawlessly before new software is installed and then develops a problem, it probably is not just a coincidence. Whether or not QuattroPro will open a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet without crashing seems to be a completely random event. Even more worrisome is that after the crash (stops responding), the Excel spreadsheet is corrupted, although it sometimes is saved as a .tmp file. **What problems is WordPerfect solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have worked for 30 years a a Paralegal. While I have learned, thanks to the WP Task Manager, to tolerate other word processors, I always tell people who ask why I won't switch to MS Word, "If it is good enough for the Federal Courts, it is good enough for me." Formatting, editing and creating documents is simple, straight forward and user friendly. I have found that other programs seem to add unnecessary steps to do the simplest of tasks. It seems with each software's newest version more and more tasks become cumbersome and inefficient. WP does not do that. Any new features are well thought out and contribute to the user friendliness we have come to expect from WP. For the features that work well, they leave them alone. That is the bottom line for me. Much easier to format documents and to fix stuff than Word. Reveal Codes is an especially useful tool that Word can't even come close to matching. It's an easy install and also great for those other "MS" things - spreadsheets, labels, etc. It's easy for people to navigate and make their way around. **What do you dislike about WordPerfect?** It's not as compatible as some other products. I have also heard - but not dealt with directly - that some users have difficulty installing on Windows 7, which is my preferred OS. There's always the concern by outside entities that we're not using the standard Word program. We had some initial issues with support - contact was difficult - but things were eventually sorted out. Also, the pale toolbars are sometimes very difficult to see - especially if the sun comes through the window late in the afternoon. Overall, though, my likes far outweighed the dislikes - this is an excellent product. **Recommendations to others considering WordPerfect:** Use reveal codes - it's a significant help, especially with formatting. **What problems is WordPerfect solving and how is that benefiting you?** This has allowed us to establish communications on a wider level. I have found recently that this can be avoided by compressing the pictures but its not great for quality to have to do that each time. **Recommendations to others considering WordPerfect:** Word perfect has its limitations and if you can afford the extra id go for a microsoft product. as it is this is a fantastic product for uni students especially when inserting pictures.
