The guidance follows your whole line of inquiry, so you spend less time reading material that does not bear on what you need. Additional AI tools sharpen the work further. Claims Explorer takes the facts of your case and returns a list of relevant claims, with a link to search possible defenses. AI Jurisdictional Surveys build a comprehensive, current survey of the law across multiple jurisdictions, up to all 50 states, from a targeted query. Precision Research reveals case attributes for the topics in your plan, so you can narrow results by legal issue, fact pattern, cause of action, motion type, party type, and area of law. You can also get a simplified view of a lengthy docket, a summary of the negative KeyCite treatments of a case, and search and summarize specific secondary source content sets. KeyCite verifies whether a case, statute, regulation, or administrative decision is still good law. KeyCite Cited With surfaces cases that are frequently cited together even when neither cites the other, which makes it easier to see how the law has developed. KeyCite Overruled in Part pinpoints the specific part of a case that has been invalidated, so the points that remain valid are not lost with it. KeyCite Overruling Risk warns you when a point of law in your case has been implicitly undermined by its reliance on an overruled or otherwise invalid prior decision. Every capability draws on content Thomson Reuters publishes and edits, cited so you can open the source and read it yourself, rather than pulled from the open web. What do you like best about Westlaw?

Westlaw is reliable, comprehensive, and easy to incorporate into the legal research and drafting process. I especially like the ability to quickly verify authorities and see whether a case is still good law. I also train and support users on Thomson Reuters tools, so I appreciate how Westlaw integrates with other tools we use and helps make research and citation checking more efficient. What do you dislike about Westlaw?

There can be a learning curve simply because Westlaw has so many features and research options. Users may not always realize everything that is available to them without some training or guidance. Once they become familiar with the platform, though, it is much easier to navigate and use effectively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?

Westlaw makes legal research and citation verification much more efficient. It gives users a centralized place to find relevant authority, check the status of cases, and validate citations without relying on multiple resources or manual processes. "F Westlaw"

What do you like best about Westlaw?

I'm used to the platform. Occasionally research librarians are helpful Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Westlaw?

I have had problems for the last three years. I pay over $500.00 a month for what I could get on court and government websites. Their A.I. research is almost always dangerously wrong. CoCounsel is useless both for document review and drafting Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Westlaw?

The salesman was nice. They cover big states well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Westlaw?

They claim they provide resources they don’t actually have. They also don’t offer short-term trials or let you cancel your contract before a year is up, even if you stop using it after the first few months because it’s been useless. Even after you take the time to write out your reasons for canceling, they just respond that they don’t cancel.

Their site also doesn’t consistently show when you’ve used resources outside your plan, yet they still charge incremental overages at a high rate. On top of that, they constantly spam you with their AI tools, which offer minimal—if any—value.

They say they have efficient estate planning tools, but they don’t. They say they cover small states (like Idaho), but there aren’t many, if any, state-specific documents. They also claim to have state- and county-specific probate forms and tools, but they don’t. Their onboarding that’s supposed to make the form builder efficient is useless. Finally, they didn't integrate with my CRM, calendaring, and other tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Westlaw?

Westlaw's AI suite is very helpful. A user can ask it complex legal questions in everyday language and receive generally good answers. The deep research is good as are the products that check work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Westlaw?

The AI is not perfect. It can generate documents and answers that require attorney review of specifics. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?

Westlaw is certainly Top Tier with respect to Legal Research platforms. It will certainly help users address legal questions and topics, find relevant authority and indicate when the same is at risk of being undermined. "Deep Research Database, but AI-Driven Search Defaults Can Distract"

Thanks for the review. Coverage is the thing we're least willing to compromise on, so it's good to hear the national database is doing its job for your clients.

The search default is a fair complaint, and it's one we've heard from other experienced researchers. If you'd rather start from your own terms every time, your Thomson Reuters rep can walk you through your search preferences so you're not opting out on every query. The broader point stands too: someone who knows exactly what they're looking for shouldn't have to work around the AI to get there.
