My assistant had a horrible time with the creator when Vuescan would not work on my main computer. Ed was cordial just at first but then got hung up on accusing us of running multiple instances (We showed him several times that it wasn't, including making screen recordings of the whole process). Then after a month of trying to get him to work with us he decided he wouldn't refund because it was a month from the purchase. The program never worked. We gave him ample opportunity to investigate the issue or refund us but sadly Amex agreed and compelled Hamrick Software to refund in total. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

My Nikon Scanner (CoolScan V ED) is pretty old and the Nikon software for it won't run on Windows 10. VueScan works perfectly with the scanner and seems to understand and support everything the scanner is able to do. I ran into a problem with bulk scanning of color negatives and the author provided personal, prompt support and resolved my issue. (It was me, not the software at fault.)

Vuescan provides a fast, simple, and stable platform for image scanning using a variety of devices, including specialized slide and film scanners. The program is inexpensive, and is one of the few I've encountered whose "lifetime" license is really that (at least so far-). You can update to the latest version at any time, or not. It works with local and network attached scanner resources as well, without any extra steps or unwanted complexity. As far as I am aware this a Windows only platform. It's difficult for me to find anything negative to say about this program. It's inexpensive, reliable and easy to use. If anything, the file type support is a bit limited, but with TIFF, JPG, and PDF as options you can find something to fit into your workflow and convert to other formats if needed. My biggest gripe with VueScan is the preview does NOT look like the final scan. So I cannot adjust colors and the white/black point with any accuracy which is extremely annoying. What looks like a perfect scan in the preview, comes out either underexposed or overexposed or the color and contrast is wrong. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
