I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon. In terms of data management and organization, Volt has been fabulous. **What do you dislike about Volt Active Data?** The system has been laggy and presents opportunities for bug fixes. Trying to raise a ticket with IS&T for an issue is almost impossible as well **What problems is Volt Active Data solving and how is that benefiting you?** For this I would say that the cons outweigh the pros. Things will only get better end Volt can begin to utilize a more streamlined method of ticket creation for bug fixes ### 4. The newest version 5.0 demonstrates the company’s desire and ability to compete and to become a leader among the NewSQL vendors. Unlike the traditional databases that are usually BASE-compliant, VoltDB is a fully ACID-compliant transactional database. The durability of VoltDB is achieved via ability to update the database schema on the fly, without stopping the database. The high availability in VoltDB achieved with clustering of the server nodes and data replication across the nodes and clusters. In summary, the list of strengths: • It is ACID compliant • It fits well into a real-time engine category • Supports a strong management of a failover, high-availability and durability options, and load balancing the workload • Supports relations as well as JSON data models **What do you dislike about Volt Active Data?** Since the VoltDB is in-memory database, once the database server stops the data is removed from the memory. That said, the users always need to set such configuration that it will not allow the data loss. VoltDB is not optimized for all types of queries, such as fetching and collating large data sets across multiple tables. VoltDB does not run on Windows and on Unix. **What problems is Volt Active Data solving and how is that benefiting you?** VoltDB offers a high-throughput, low-latency database operations at a low cost. VoltDB is one of the world's fastest operational databases which allows maximum transaction throughput. An ability to export live data, that VoltDB provides, can be very useful when business data needs to be passed to other business process. The customers of VoltDB use it mostly for real-time analysis as it demonstrates an excellent performance managing large volumes of transactions in real-time. ### 5. It is not simply one of those Elephants bolting on an in-memory feature to their legacy relational database technology. VoltDB is a true NewSQL database technology. **What do you dislike about Volt Active Data?** It is a bit pricey compared to other contemporary database technologies. That was an obstacle for us. However; the great team at VoltDB will work with you to get a deal done. Of course, when you see the performance of VoltDB and realize that your other solutions do not compare, you understand what you are paying for. **Recommendations to others considering Volt Active Data:** They offer a good on-line university training program that can get you up to speed on not only the software but it will also increase your understanding of in-memory database technologies and distributed databases. **What problems is Volt Active Data solving and how is that benefiting you?** We demonstrated in numerous projects that VoltDB could easily provide us with real-time analytics and solve not only our Operational data needs but our IoT and SmartGrid needs when it came to immediate analysis and decision making. ### 6.
