I'm very glad I didn't sign a longer contract with Varsity Tutors.

I used Varsity Tutors for a month on a promo price. I needed to pause my membership and did so on their website, but then still was receiving text reminders for scheduled sessions. I then called to confirm that I was paused. The person I spoke with said I was paused and I had until the 16th to cancel or continue. It is now the 16th and I just got off the phone with them and they'd already charged a renewal fee. If "Until the 16th" doesn't mean "up to and including the 16th" then they should be more explicit about that fact when communicating with customers.

From what I've read elsewhere the general trend of Varsity Tutors making their auto-renewal charges not immediately obvious to people seems to be commonplace. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

They misrepresented how the payments worked to get me to pay too much every month, then misrepresented how the 'summer pause' worked so that they could autobill me in August before school had even started. The guy on the phone PROMISED that the pause would not stop without me calling to talk about it. But that was not the case and they refused to refund the auto-charge that was fradulently done. Occasionally you will get a less reliable tutor and it can be stressful getting a new tutor assigned. The service is also pricey. We starting using Varsity Tutors with the Coyote Peterson class. My son love his YouTube videos. After that class, we started exploring the other classes Varsity Tutors had to offer and purchased small group classes Marine Biology and Big Cats. Not only were these classes informative in areas my son loves learning about, but also they were so fun. He couldn't quit talking about sharks and lions for weeks. Given these experiences, I am considering signing him up for 1:1 tutoring to give him the extra support he needs with his school work. Great experience so far!
