I honestly question the value of my employer's partnership with them, as they provided virtually no assistance during my relocation. I ended up handling everything internally, making UrbanBound feel like an unnecessary and frustrating middleman. **What do you dislike about UrbanBound?** Firstly, their website is a complete disaster. Uploading moving expenses is a needlessly complicated process. The categorization is clunky, and the system's rigidity is infuriating. If you're approaching your relocation allowance limit, be prepared for the system to reject any further receipts, even if you have funds remaining. Instead of a seamless experience, you're forced to contact customer support and plead your case. The entire process feels designed to be as inefficient as possible. Secondly, the moving partners they recommended provided outrageously expensive quotes. I received two quotes, one for $7,000 and the other for $11,000. The similarity in the offers made me suspicious. I was able to secure significantly lower quotes from other moving companies on my own. UrbanBound's "partnership" seems to translate to inflated prices for the end-user. Finally, the consultants I interacted with were unhelpful, unenthusiastic, and difficult to work with. Instead of providing solutions, they consistently referred me elsewhere. For even the simplest requests, their response was invariably, "Contact your HR about that." One is an employee survey that provides insights based on real employees' experiences during their own moves to our location, and the other is a neighborhood finding tool that provides stats and information about specific areas within the major metro area. Reporting has also greatly improved over time and the best thing is the UI experience for the new hires. Easy to request reimbursements, easy approval process, and quick payback to employees. **What do you dislike about UrbanBound?** There is a bit of a push to use Urban Bound approved realtors. For moving services, it makes sense because of the vetting process (a positive) but sometimes people want to use their own realtors or are able to get local moving companies to reply faster. **What problems is UrbanBound solving and how is that benefiting you?** Quick reimbursement, documented exceptions and easy access to policies, helpful classification of each expense type and very good customer service. Has definitely made the experience better for new hires and more efficient for us internally. ### 6. It's a good idea to consider things your internal team members need, as well as your external or new hire team members. Was helpful linking to apartmentlist.com. Not much else to say. **What do you dislike about UrbanBound?** Like other reviews had indicated, the portal was rarely used for interaction. The moving consultant appeared to work completely independently. The prices I was quoted from their vendors were highly inflated and unrealistic in terms of requirements, compared to independent quotes I got from other sources. It was not unusual to see quotes as high as three times that of what independent moving companies were offering me. In addition, the moving consultant did not appear to do any work. Beyond the initial contact with the moving companies, Urbanbound did no action to facilitate the move. I had to go through all the legwork of calling these vendors and negotiating my needs while I was also busy at work after putting in my two weeks notice. The process should have involved me providing a list of my possessions to Urbanbound and they should have gone through the legwork to find movers within the given price range, but everything was done myself. **Recommendations to others considering UrbanBound:** Avoid if you have any option. **What problems is UrbanBound solving and how is that benefiting you?** Urbanbound is used by my company to help relocate. There were no benefits. Instead of reducing stress, going through Urbanbound increased the stress of moving. ### 9. Clearly they are trying to take a cut on the services themselves, not just charging companies paying for their service. You’ll need to get your own quotes and do your own research anyway, at which point you wonder why you’re using them? The biggest problem for me, however, was that my assigned relocation person completely fell off the face of the earth. Last 4 emails have gone unanswered and when I emailed her backup (from a previous OOO message), got an auto-reply saying she’s no longer at the company. I have to wonder if people not using their marked up services are causing them to have to lay people off? Or people are just leaving on their own? Lstly, the web “app” is completely useless. No functionality at all, just a super simple CRUD portal they through together. Want to book a hotel? Cool, send in a list of details manually and hope someone got it right. Want to ship your car? Cool, send an email and wait to get one single inflated quote back via email without the vendor name attached. **Recommendations to others considering UrbanBound:** You likely have no choice whatsoever given your company will pick this service, but if you’re in a position to choose stay away. I've heard time and time again that our employee's UB Partner was absolutely amazing. In addition, our Recruiting team truly enjoys our time with the UB internal team. And the round-the-clock relocation support available to employees is pretty awesome. **What do you dislike about UrbanBound?** The functionality of the platform is honestly a bit clunky. It's not as fast or self-explanatory as other systems, and many of our folks have had difficulty figuring out how exactly to do what they're trying to do. It's also a bit more expensive than you would expect based on the value of the platform. **What problems is UrbanBound solving and how is that benefiting you?** UrbanBound is essentially a one-stop-shop that provides employees with all the services they need tied to a move - moving companies, housing providers, transportation options, and even things like tax laws pertaining to moves, so they can ensure they get the best bang for their buck when tax time comes around. ### 15. I had only 2 weeks from acceptance to time of report on my first day. Relocation from Chicago Il to Scottsdale AZ.. I noted the following characteristics as we went though a vary what seem to me to be chaotic. the attentiveness of the team, the ability to keep the situation in a moderate level regarding stress, the ability to rely upon them, how organized they were, the website of resources and tracking of the plethora of details involved with a relocation. **What do you dislike about UrbanBound?** lack of input when it came to spending the slotted budget. **Recommendations to others considering UrbanBound:** ensure you understand what instructions Urban Bound receives from your employer regarding your relocation package and the limitations there -in. Understand how much actual control you have over how the budgeted funds are allocated and spent. **What problems is UrbanBound solving and how is that benefiting you?** As if my relocation, to a new city / region of the country that I had never been before, in a 2 week period was not enough stress, I had a stress booster of having to sell my condo in Chicago, and purchasing in AZ. When urban bound was contacted of any issues along the way of the 3 prong services they provided (relocation, sell and purchase of real-estate) they always was quick to solve and provide updates immediately as information became available. In hindsight they were relentless in getting results. for me. These actions garnered my trust after a short period of time. As the process continued, i noticed I would convey an issue. and not worry about it. which allowed me to address the next item of urgency. ### 16. Having list of common tasks to consider for you move and content to help you with the move. **What do you dislike about UrbanBound?** Everything else after that first session was a PITA. The portal, though nice, was never used for interaction. Creating tasks there doesn't really do anything for the move, since the primary point of contact, the moving consultant, seem to work completely independently of the port. After the first 15 mins of playing around with the portal, I've never really used it again. Most of the tasks related to relocation are done via phone or email with the moving consultant. That in itself is not bad, if the service itself was good. Sadly, quotes from their vendors are inflated by 60%-120% with comparable quotes I got. Yet I have no choice but to go with overly expensive quotes. It's frustrating. Turn around is also much slower with their vendors. I got two quotes from two movers in two days, with UrbanBound vendors, it took two weeks to do the same. This pattern kept on repeating itself through the whole relocation process. **Recommendations to others considering UrbanBound:** Avoid. You will end up spending more and causing more stress for your employees **What problems is UrbanBound solving and how is that benefiting you?** UrbanBound is used by my company to help me relocate. There really isn't any benefits that I have realized personally. UrbanBound is effectively a service company, they built a webapp probably not because it creates a lot of value for the user, but as an effective tool to raise money. My entire interaction with Urbanbound has been via a one of their service reps/moving consultants via phone or email. After initially poking around the webapp, I've never used it since. The services obtained by UrbanBound is more expensive, the turnaround is slower.
