**What do you like best about TortoiseHg?**

Tortoise HG is a simple and efficient tool for handling the version control system. The best thing about it is that it has most of the frequently used features in the form of menus and buttons and provide GUI to understand the versioning system

**What do you dislike about TortoiseHg?**

Sometimes we feel like the GUI is a bit old, and the versioning tree seems confusing when viewing in the old GUI. It has a lot of alternatives that came into the market recently.

**What problems is TortoiseHg solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My work is related to Version Control Systems. Since we have to manage GitHub to control the versions for an app, sometimes I have many problems because many developers work on the same topics. With TortoiseHg, I can find the issues during the merge process faster and solve them so we can continue working. Also, it is helpful to check the differences between the current and the new code.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sathish K. | Development Team Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2019

**What do you like best about TortoiseHg?**

It is conceptually simple and easy to use. The best part is the graphical visualization of the branches and its commits. We can easily pull and merge the code without typing in the console. We can easily switch the branch one to another and it is very useful for collaborative development if you are working the same project with multiple developers.

**What do you dislike about TortoiseHg?**

If any error in the server like while merge and pull means they are not showing the detailed error log and a bit difficult to understand the error messages. Mainly they do not provide partial checkouts.

**What problems is TortoiseHg solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In initially we don't have any version control system to merge all codes from developers so it always ended up with a big problem and then we switch to this tool. Now we can easily push and pull the code from anywhere.

  ### 31. Another decent source and revision control tool from Tortoise***

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tee M. | Lawyer, Apparel & Fashion, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2018

**What do you like best about TortoiseHg?**

I have used TortoiseSVN as my default SVN client for several years. I am working on a project that is source in Mercurial and have found TortoiseHg to be a great tool for working with Mercurial. I enjoy the command line tool but the best use I have for TortoiseHg is the visualized branching and merging. It really helps prevent errors from branching

**What do you dislike about TortoiseHg?**

There are a few bugs I am suprised have not been resolved. One such bug is related to how the client side password is stored. Additionally the GUI while strong is not super intuitive. Furthermore, the GUI takes a lot longer to use than the command line tool. Additionally I have a problem with GUI's in general because programmers should learn to use command line tools.

**Recommendations to others considering TortoiseHg:**

First learn to use command line tools, then use TortoiseHg command line tool for branching only

**What problems is TortoiseHg solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest issues that TortoiseHg solve is around bugs caused by branching and also by reducing the cost (in time) spent branching and merging. TortoiseHg has also been very helpful in lessening the onboarding process for developers who are not particular strong working on the Linux command line. Additionally it's similiarity to tortoisesvn and tortoisegit helps because people who are not familiar with mercurial source/version control have an easier time picking it up.

  ### 32. it's very manual

I don't like that every option is so complicated if you don't read the docs.

**Recommendations to others considering TortoiseHg:**

read the docs and make the appropriate setup before.

**What problems is TortoiseHg solving and how is that benefiting you?**

version control

  ### 33. Everything under version control

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2018

**What do you like best about TortoiseHg?**

TortoiseHG is easy to use and stable. We used it while developing an enterprise architecture which included a series of c sharp scripts. Similar to other CM tools, tortoise works well considering its low price point.

**What do you dislike about TortoiseHg?**

Hmmm, overall I dont have anything that I really disliked. A web based version of the tool might be a nice thing if it doesnt exist already. I'm also curious how well you could option metric reports from tortoise since we never exercised that type of functionality.

**What problems is TortoiseHg solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used tortoise to configure manage various software products being developed by multiple team members in various geographical locations. It allowed for easy tracking of our software product versioning and justification for our changes.

I use it every day and it allows me to handle every mercurial functions between branches (merge and graft mostly). We use a lot of repositories and related branches, and this software helps us to manage developments among them.

**Reviewed Date:** May 01, 2018

**What do you like best about TortoiseHg?**

**Reviewed by:** Christian H. | Product Engineer 2 - New Product Introductions, High-Speed Optical Modems, Telecommunications, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 30, 2016

**What do you like best about TortoiseHg?**

Nice interface, integrates with Windows Explorer and looks very similar to SVN which is useful for teams that are really rooted down in SVN

**What do you dislike about TortoiseHg?**

Slightly more complicated than SVN to set up and less widely used than Git.

**Recommendations to others considering TortoiseHg:**

Good piece of software if you are using Mercurial for version control. With that said, Git is much more common and is generally more widely supported so if you have the choice between the two, I would consider using Git if possible

**What problems is TortoiseHg solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Used for versioning but specifically for tracking test data and reports which tend to be updated often. Sharepoint would have likely been a better solution but it was not possible to use it in this instance due to IT restrictions.
