Performance over Slow Networks: While TightVNC performs well on local networks and decent internet connections, its performance may suffer over slower or congested networks, leading to lag and lower image quality.

Security Concerns: While TightVNC does support encryption for data transmission, some users might prefer more robust security features found in other remote desktop solutions.

  ### 7. Great and easy to setup vnc server

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Karmavir J. | Co-Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 04, 2022

**What do you like best about TightVNC?**

Tight VNC has all the things that you need to remotely access the GUI of a server or a remote device.
The best part is the configuration to get it up and running takes only a little time if you know what you are doing.
Compared to Paid VNC services, if you set up your firewall and tunnel to use it, this works better than most.

**What do you dislike about TightVNC?**

For someone setting up tightvnc on a server espacially and AWS or Azure engine , the chances of misconfiguration are high and a real pain.

**What problems is TightVNC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it for raspberry Pi, our custom products running on RPi CM4 and CM3, beaglebone and Nvidia jetson.
We also use it for connecting to some of our clouds that need GUI.
We've stopped using paid vnc services totally.

  ### 8. TightVNC Clients and Servers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2021

**What do you like best about TightVNC?**

TightVNC is a free, lightweight client that has makes connecting to non-critical machines near effortless. Even walking a non-technical person through the installer is relatively easy. Even changing settings are a breeze.

**What do you dislike about TightVNC?**

The only items I dislike about TighVNC are the lack of end-to-end encryption standards. From what I read, it's still exploitable, so we would never trust it on machines that require privacy or server environments which is a shame because it's the fastest way for us to reach a device without using an RDP session. Another (minor, for us) dislike is the lack of granularity of settings and options compared to other paid programs, but again, it's free and works for us as-is.

**Recommendations to others considering TightVNC:**

TightVNC is a fantastic app for those looking for a VNC server/client product, especially with it being free. Very easy to download, setup, deploy on single devices, and use.

**What problems is TightVNC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Some of the problems we solve with TighVNC are managing old systems that would otherwise create a headache for RDP or other tools that required only the newest operating systems. The benefits of being able to be physically remote from those devices make our lives very easy.

  ### 21. Nice software for 2005, but a little outdated for 2018.

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rick B. | General Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2018

**What do you like best about TightVNC?**

TightVNC is reasonably straightforward and runs in the background with absolutely no disturbance to the user. It is neatly buried in the taskbar and can be hovered over when the time comes that you need remote support. Being an older generation of software, it runs very light on resources and does not slow down any core processes within the operating system. Best of all, its FREE for personal and commercial use.

**What do you dislike about TightVNC?**

I don't like the how resource heavy TightVNC is over an internet/LAN connection. It is very difficult to work in a remote session when the mouse jumps around and there is a lot of lag. Compared to products like TeamViewer, TightVNC is a lot more resource intensive during an actual remote assistance session. The look and feel of the software is also outdated, plus the fact that the last update to the software was in April 2017, it seems to be a dying product?

**Recommendations to others considering TightVNC:**

I would recommend possibly trying other software on the market before using TightVNC. Yes, TightVNC may be free, but there is a reason that you pay a premium for a software like TeamViewer, things just work a whole lot better.

**What problems is TightVNC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The software does fulfill its purpose by providing remote assistance, and it does so with ease. Having the background process running on any PC makes it so much easier to give remote access on demand, especially to persons who don't necessarily understand the finer workings of their company-assigned computer.

  ### 22. Great lightweight remote control solution

**What do you like best about TightVNC?**

It's lightweight yet full of useful features. Excellent little app.

**What do you dislike about TightVNC?**

**What problems is TightVNC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Connecting to display screen computers

  ### 23. Easy to use remote control software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kamran A. | Consultant I.T Infrastructure, Textiles, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 21, 2018

**What do you like best about TightVNC?**

It is quick setup and easy to use software. You need to install server version on all the machines you want to access and on admin computer install viewer to remote control user computers. You can assign password to remote control client system so no unauthorized person can remote access. The best thing it is Free for commercial use too.

**What do you dislike about TightVNC?**

We cannot save any list of clients to manage without entering the IP or name each time.

**Recommendations to others considering TightVNC:**

Great to have this freeware

**What problems is TightVNC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To access the client computers without physically go and resolve the problems.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2018

It allows controlling other computers in a simple way, allowing the generation of mouse and keyboard inputs. Moreover, it has several good customization options. The software is light, free and easy to install.

**What do you dislike about TightVNC?**

The UI has an old look. Probably it would need to renew its appearance and improve the usability. Also, I would like some better way to manage the saved hosts (maybe adding names for identifying the hosts or the possibility to create groups).

**Recommendations to others considering TightVNC:**

That a good VNC software if you need a simple and free way to manage other hosts.

**What problems is TightVNC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use the TightVNC client to manage other computers and solve errors or problems in them. It is one of the best options, and it is totally free.

  ### 25. Free remote desktop client that misses some nice-to-haves of its competitors

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Liam G. | Campus Tour Guide, Higher Education, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2018

**What do you like best about TightVNC?**

It's free, lightweight and fast. It also is easy to setup if the computers you'd like to access are all available locally.

**What do you dislike about TightVNC?**

Security is nonexistent (passwords are sent over plain text). It also isn't suitable for computers that need to be accessed remotely and not through some sort encrypted tunnel. It also doesn't have computer management features that other, more robust clients have (think products from Citrix or even team viewer).

**Recommendations to others considering TightVNC:**

If you don't need strong encryption then it is extremely easy to use and setup.

**What problems is TightVNC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Free, lightweight solution for locally viewing desktops. We used it to remote in to a client running Windows for development purposes.

**What do you dislike about TightVNC?**

I think the security could be a little better, my computer wasn’t hacked but I see a clear and present danger

**What problems is TightVNC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problem I solved using TightVNC is if I forgot to email a document to someone I’m able to access my computer get the document and send it.

  ### 31. Tight VNC - awesome free Virtual connection to your PC

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2018

**What do you like best about TightVNC?**

Tight VNC is an awesome and free software which allows you to see and control a remote computer with your mouse and keyboard as if you were sitting in front of the computer yourself. This is great for working from home or telecommuting as you can basically do anything with the remote computer ...except get paper print outs from the printer connected to the remote machine. It's free to use for an unlimited time. The file size is small. It's safe and easy to install and from a company which regularly updates the software. The menu is simple and has everything laid out for you.

**What do you dislike about TightVNC?**

The graphical interface is quite sparse without many bells and whistles It may be difficult for some users who have never used this kind of software before. So I suggest going to Youtube to look at tutorials. There's so many options that you probably need some basic network knowledge to use this software and to get your remote desktop up and running. There is some lag but it's dependent on your internet connection and is not too noticeable.

**Recommendations to others considering TightVNC:**

I recommend this software as it's free, easy to use, light on resources, powerful and has constant updates.

**What problems is TightVNC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it to remote desktop into my work computer from computers at home or other places when I need to view files or work on my office computer.

  ### 32. Used in Science Centre - was great

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2018

**What do you like best about TightVNC?**

As a supervisor at a science centre, this was so useful to turn on, off, and reset exhibits when we were having issues remotely. As the physical space of where I worked was huge, this program made my life a lot easier.

**What do you dislike about TightVNC?**

Every exhibit has a name tag, and you cant access the remote desktop without the name tag.

**Recommendations to others considering TightVNC:**

Would use again for exhibit control.

**What problems is TightVNC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Controlling exhibit function on and off!! Works so much more easily then physically moving and having to reset the information.

**What do you like best about TightVNC?**

TightVNC is a great program, but very basic. If you just want to connect and use it, then this program will do it, but don't expect much more.

**What do you dislike about TightVNC?**

I would have liked more features to play with.

**What problems is TightVNC solving and how is that benefiting you?**
