**What do you like best about Thunderbird?**

I have to manage multiple email accounts from different providers (IMAP and Exchange), and Thunderbird handles this effortlessly. It is completely free, open-source, and highly customizable. The local filtering rules are incredibly powerful and allow me to keep my inbox clean automatically. I also really like the new "Supernova" UI update, which makes the software look much more modern than a few years ago.

**What do you dislike about Thunderbird?**

Setting up calendar synchronizations (like CalDAV) can still be a bit tedious and sometimes requires add-ons or technical tinkering. It's also a desktop-only app; a native mobile version that syncs my desktop settings would be highly appreciated.

**What problems is Thunderbird solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It gives me a centralized, offline-capable workspace for all my communications. I don't have to switch between different webmail tabs all day or pay expensive subscription fees for Microsoft Outlook. Everything is backed up locally on my machine.

It integrates very easily with any email, whether business or commercial like Google or Outlook.

A very simple software that consumes few resources in memory as well as in storage.

The best part: TOTALLY FREE.

I have used Thunderbird for years across Windows, macOS, and Linux, and I’m a genuine fan of how it has evolved into a mature, privacy-first email and personal information management suite with a clear product vision anchored in open standards and extensibility.

✅ The unified Inbox model and multi-account architecture are implemented cleanly, with the option to keep account silos or work from a consolidated view when moving fast. Search, quick filters, message tags, and virtual/saved searches form a cohesive triad for handling large, multi-year archives and high-volume mailboxes without performance gimmicks.

✅ The desktop app covers the core PIM surface natively: email, calendar with recurring events and invites, contacts, and tasks, so switching contexts between messages and schedules happens in one place. It is not just a bolt-on calendar either; multiple calendars with color coding, standards-based invitations, and an address book that feeds autocompletion are available out of the box. The design accommodates different layout densities and panels, with classic, wide, and vertical views plus a competent three-pane default for triaging.

**What do you like best about Thunderbird?**

My use of Thunderbird is pretty much simple: email reception and sending, filter to find an email per date or sender, automatic filters to get emails directed to their folders or subfolders and use of address folders. Thunderbird is my default email client so I use it everyday. Thunderbird is super stable. I have been using the different versions over the years (more than a decade) and I never had a crash.
One can easily create folders and subfolders. It's very convenient when you run a company with several projects and different emails per project. The active filters are a wonder. You can direct messages in the right folders and subfolders depending on the source, the subject, etc.
The address folders are super handy when you need to run emails campaigns.
I didn't have to use customer support so I don't really have an opinion on that

**What do you dislike about Thunderbird?**

When it comes to re-set up an email account it can become a bit complicated, Thunderbird tends to use automatic processes that can be a pain to stop.

**What problems is Thunderbird solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have 10 to 12 projects to take care of at the same time on a daily basis. It makes 20 to 30 email addresses to monitor daily. Thunderbird is a great help for sorting things out, and for spotting priorities.

From my experience using Thunderbird it could be tricky to do some advanced stuff like exporting groups of rules into another client, eg. if I'm using two different devices. I'm also missing a server connection where rules can be executed without the client needing to be open on a PC

It's free for most uses. It costs money when I want to incorporate exchange 365 through a plug-in, but it works.

It can be slow at times. Not always the friendliest in use, but it's manageable.

**What do you like best about Thunderbird?**

The rules engine and its options that also supports IMAP - something the New Outlook for Windows no longer supports. The multiple view options for navigation folders makes categorising emails simple. The tags view is gold, especially when you have multiple email accounts and you have to remember to action several emails in the future, like paying that bill due in 3 weeks but you dont want that email left in the dreaded inbox of dispair. Their compact view for the nav folders is also fantastic. 

Microsoft have moved to a simpler, less flexible Outlook product, however Mozilla seem to have kept the customisations, but they are way easier to navigate and implement than the old Outlook ever was. Bravo Mozilla!

**What do you dislike about Thunderbird?**

Maybe a tad resource hungry, but not a deal breaker. There's not too much to dislike about v115.

Automated mail rules for IMAP, and consolidating several email accounts into a simple, easy to navigate UI that shows you the important stuff several ways.

I like that all of my email, calendars, and contacts are local. I can take my laptop without an internet connection and process and respond to email. Thunderbird also has a mass email addon that is terrific.

**What do you dislike about Thunderbird?**

The search feature is not that great.  So when I need to find a specific email from a while ago I switch over to the web (gmail) to do that search.

**What problems is Thunderbird solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I manage a number of email accounts for my company. It is easy to monitor each of those accounts in Thunderbird.  In the background the client is downloading messages. Seeing all of the accounts at a glance and how many unread emails there are in each account helps me to know which teams I need to check with. I can also go into the messages of each account quickly because they are all stored locally.  This makes it so I'm not waiting on web pages to load or trying to change the email account I'm working with.  This is where Thunderbird shines is working with multiple accounts.

I also use Thunderbird as a Calendar Client and Contacts manager.

I have more than 5 email accounts business and personal. Thunderbird helps me to manage multiple email accounts.  
I actively use filters to delete junk, ads and to sort and move messages between folders and use filters to highlight important messages automatically. 
I also like to use quick search to find old email messages.

I don't like recent user interfaces changes. It looks the quick search now is a bit laggish.

Easy to setup emails over IMPA, the software is fairly lightweight, ads-free, and also performs well on Linux based distro. So basically it is stable, plain and simple which does the job well of sending and receiving emails, though there is nothing special about it.

**What do you dislike about Thunderbird?**

There are quite a few things I dislike about it, lot of the time the email templates with more visual element does not render properly. One if the issue thst I am facing is my import email are going to spam and I can't find ot a way to not have to mark all email from that Id not spam. There is no mobile app so have to use different apps on desktop and mobile which leads to inconsistent experience. And it has one of the mosr boaring and uninspiring UI I have see in today's time.

I use thunderbird to setup company emails, and use mostly for local inter-compay communication, check inbox, reply, send emails thats it, don't use any additional features like events, calenders and organization. So thunderbird is one of the most stable clients out there.

I don't like how you can't sync Google Contacts to Thunderbird. It seems like an easy thing to add, which would add a highly-useful feature. 

I already use my Gmail and Google Calendar accounts with Thunderbird, so it's annoying that this hasn't been implemented.

Free and open source. The fact that through extensions, you can make it do just about anything you really want it to. Sometimes it's easier to clean large swaths of email via a desktop client than a web based one. It also searches much faster... usually.

While it can be portable, you have to obviously have the space to move it around. Not all computers (corporate ones) will allow you to run or install it.

I like being able to keep it simple and clean looking, not grouping all messages together. I also like being able to label the emails and right click and save/reply etc. A lot of this doesn't work as well in a client like outlook.

The syncing is so bad - sometimes it takes forever, granted i get a lot of emails, but I'm talking hours to sync up. Also a lot of times a message sent has an error saving to the sent folder, so then my log of sent emails is all out of wack - some aren't showing up, or the content in the message is empty, or just plain wrong - like wrong address associated with the content of the email sent - its a strange thing. but a big problem when you are in sales like me and send a ton of emails.

I just recently had to switch to outlook after using Thunderbird for years. While there's a lot I don't like about outlook, its just smoother and runs better/faster more efficiently than Thunderbird.

I hate webmail, so it was helping me organize meetings, follow ups, outreach, set up new calednar events, etc. It's much better in this sense that say gmail or outlook web portals.

It's very simple to use and it has an easy to use interface.
There are tons of free addons available such a language dictionaries and many utilities.
Moreover if you change computer even with a different operating systems, you can move that "Thunderbird" data folder to the new computer and BAM! You have it all there: emails, contacts, accounts and all the configuration.
The best part is that Mozilla looks for your privacy and is composed by a huge community.

I absolutely love Mozilla Thunderbird. I can't find anything I dislike and I'm using it a lot of years already.
Something to improve could be the general search. I find the results a bit confusing for me.
