## Terminalfour Reviews
  ### 1. Great People with a Great Product

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Julie J. | Audience Services Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2025

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

The folks at TerminalFour really care about giving their users the best experience. I have not worked with a company that asked for feedback as much as TerminalFour does and then actually implements the feedback.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

I don't have any negative feedback for TerminalFour because even the "problems" are reviewed and improved or they will provide training to help you understand how to use the product better.

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have been able to enforce more consistently across out our pages.

  ### 2. T4 is a great product and the possibilities are endless!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jamie C. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2023

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

I love Terminalfour as a CMS. The product allows for custom code, system-wide consistency features, including mirroring content, and navigation objects to bring content from one area of the site to the other. User groups and permissions are easily manageable. Section and content links allow the system to warn you about broken links when deleting content, and the system shows you where the links are. There are many other very useful features within T4.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

Some of our pain points are we wish we could customize workflow emails a bit more to include more information about what content needs to be reviewed and add in other useful information. We would love to see this added in the future. It would also be helpful to be able to exclude sections within a branch that users have access to. The permissions are inherited by down the branch, which in most cases, is fine but there are always those special cases where it would be nice. Also, It would be awesome if we could set up review dates for entire sections vs each piece of content.

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We moved from WrodPress and T4 helps us with consistency and stale content by assiginig content to users.

**Official Response from Piero Tintori:**

> Hi, thanks for the review. We're delighted you're making the most of the Terminalfour platform. We love your suggestions for improvement and requested features, and they'll be forwarded on to the team. Thanks again for the review.

  ### 3. Best CMS platform I have worked with - and the greatest team running it

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 04, 2023

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

There are many positive assets of using T4. For one, their support team is great and provides a direct line to them for submitting tickets and questions that usually gets answered in a prompt timeline/window. They go above and beyond with their communications in connecting to their clients - be it the support platform, their reps reaching out about new features, newsletters, the documentation site, the communal slack channel, and more. I have never met a more friendly group of people at a company, and that attitude and environment gets translated to their work and relations with clients. The CMS itself is intuitive and provides a variety of assets and functionality to accomplish anything in a website. Content types, page layouts, nav items, and more are all at your disposal to really dive into your designs and make them not only functional for your development team but easy to use for your editors who may not have coding experience. They also make updates incredibly easy - their team takes care of it for you and there is no hassle. T4 provides great reporting features and it is helpful that deleted content can be easily restored without jumping through hoops. We recently went through a website redesign and never entertained the idea of switching CMS's in the process - we knew we loved T4 and all that it offers. Truly the best platform and team to work with.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

I would say that more user information and analytics would be helpful and is missing on the platform. For example, seeing the last time someone was logged in, their activities, allowing them to reset passwords themselves (admins need to do this), etc. would be great in bumping up governance efforts for admins.
I would also say perhaps beefing up media library capabilities and management. Where to upload images, pdfs, and all files can be a bit confusing depending on how each client sets up the folders for organization. It would be great if it was a bit more automatic and guided users more clearly. However, this can be both a pro and a con depending on each organization's preferences.

EDIT: Yes, thank you for the response! We did not previously have the Dashboard feature and have since installed it - It is great for showing some of the metrics described above!

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We recently went through a website redesign, overhauling our entire site and T4 helped us with design implementations and integrations - both new and old - with other univerities systems. They have helped us modernize our website and make the overall web experience great for our users.

**Official Response from Piero Tintori:**

> Hi, thank you for the review. We always appreciate hearing from our clients and finding ways to improve our products and services.
Some of what you mention can actually be seen from the Terminalfour dashboard on your platform:https://docs.terminalfour.com/documentation/developer-resources/modules/dashboard-module/
Dashboards are a great way to improve governance and seeing who has access, when content was last edited, etc. There are lots of useful features, and we'd recommend installing the dashboard.
If your institution hasn't yet installed it or if they're not sure how to, please reach out to your Account Manager or our Support team, and they'd be happy to help you with that!
Thanks again for the review!

  ### 4. The worst CMS I've used in my career

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan E. | Senior Web Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2022

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

The best thing about TerminalFour is its content-type structure. Drupal's is so much better.
The CMS does work most of the time & doesn't go down frequently.
The response time is fair.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

The CMS's interface is super old-fashioned
The CMS is unintuitive & no one can understand it without extensive training
The CMS has a javascript engine from the 90s, so no modern javascript works in the back end
We tried to get TerminalFour to import content into the database & we had to pay to have someone in India manually add the data. The project got scrapped in the end. Why couldn't they do a database import?
The code editor in the backend is super buggy.
You add a page layout (Template), but there is no way of knowing which content type works with that page layout
It gets messy very quickly
There isn't a way to "View page" like any other CMS
Things are named wrong - delete doesn't delete, publish doesn't publish
The social & email features are decades behind other tools
Exporting reports doesn't work - it just times out
You can't create custom post types or anything of the such, so you end up with hundreds of content types
SEO features don't exist
The sitemap generator doesn't work - we had to build our own
It doesn't support webp images, so you can never get a good google page speed score
The media library is terrible
The search feature doesn't work. You have to know the ID, which, if I knew, I wouldn't be searching
Nothing actually gets deleted, so when we remove a page, it gets marked as inactive in the CMS but the page just lives on forever
The PHP engine only works on the live site - So we need to publish the page to check the PHP worked
There is no in-built search functionality, so we have to pay £15K per year for an external tool
No agencies can work with T4
You can't link out to external pages - You have to create a new section that links out & then link to that section
You can't use "If Not" statements. TerminalFour's own suggestion was to use a super hacky method of commenting & uncommenting code
You have to get used to saying, "T4 doesn't support that kind of thing"
Publishing the site takes 3 hours (No exaggeration)
Documentation is bad
No in-built testing
Can't work locally and push to T4 - You have to work inside the CMS at all times
No repeater fields

It's basically a glorified sign-posting tool. Awkward to use. Worst CMS I've used in my 10 years as a developer.

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the problem of us needing a CMS but because it's so unintuitive, the web-team end up making every edit on behalf of people. Any other CMS does what terminalfour does & usually better.

**Official Response from Piero Tintori:**

> Dear Ryan,

We’re sorry you feel you’ve had a negative experience with your Terminalfour product.

As your account manager may have discussed with you previously, you’re currently on a very old version of our software (15 versions behind) and haven’t availed of all the training we can offer to make the most of our product. Much of the friction you’re experiencing could be fixed by upgrading to our newest version of Terminalfour.

Our Professional Services team can help with any development you don’t wish to do in-house, and as one of the leading digital engagement and web content management platforms for the higher education sector in the UK, there are many agencies that are very familiar with our Terminalfour solution, and we’d be happy to put you in touch with them.

We’ve messaged you privately and our Support team will be delighted to help upgrade your version of Terminalfour.

Thank you,

The Terminalfour team

  ### 5. Robust content management system

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

As a content strategist, I've found it easy to manage and update content with the Terminal Four content management system. I learned the CMS during a one-day training and have found the Knowledge Base helpful for any questions that have come up since training.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

I'm very happy with Terminal Four and only have small quibbles with the CMS. For example, while the company says that editors should be able to copy and paste content from Microsoft Word without retaining formatting, we have found that formatting sometimes stays with the text, which causes issues with how the content displays. Our work-around is to first paste copy into the Notepad app (which strips all formatting and leaves only plain text) and then copy and paste into Terminal Four. It's an extra step but not a big deal.

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're creating a consistent look and feel for all content on our organization's website. The CMS has helped us create a much cleaner, more up-to-date look for the site. This is especially important during the pandemic, when our customers cannot visit our organization in person and are more likely to turn to the website for information and answers.

  ### 6. TerminalFour content management system review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Katie R. | Director of Digital Strategy , Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 07, 2021

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

The content management system is mostly used by higher education institutions and the T4 team is very knowledgeable about "our world" and what we are trying to accomplish. The user interface is very intuitive and functionality can be customized to meet an organization's needs. There is a community forum that is very helpful and the learning materials are great. I miss some of the functionality (now use a different CMS at a different organization) like the shared content blocks that allow you to share the same information in multiple places but only have to update it once. The training they provide is customized and very effective.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

Like with any "out of the box" CMS there are sometimes things you cannot customize to exactly meet your needs, but overall I highly recommend it and the TerminalFour team.

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using a content management system to present information on a public website in an intuitive and visually appealing user interface. Also, allowing non-technical editors across the organization to keep their content up to date with some training.

  ### 7. Highly configurable and scalable content management system

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 07, 2021

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

The system allows a lot of flexibility in the way web pages are constructed. The interface allows large websites to be easily created and managed.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

The system is not so good for managing events or a large number of news items or events. Tagging content like you would in a WordPress blog is possible but difficult.

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using T4 to incorporate information from external sources to enable content for our course pages to be published. This gives us the flexibility we need to reduce the manual work need to edit the content.

  ### 8. This application serves to advance the digital marketing campaigns.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James M. | Business Development Manager National Account, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 30, 2020

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

TERMINALFOUR is a web-based application and is very useful for colleges and universities in managing their current status and promoting the institution for further admissions. This tool is a good planner in making strong strategies to empower the organization with the best policies. The users can capture the benefits of making solid plans and ideas for implementation. The software is very beneficial in allocating the organization with well-reputed institutes. It comprehends all details and guide the visitors to come again for further process.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

This application compares the organization and it’s very important to maintain the web page with secured hands. Otherwise, the information can be skipped and it can create problems for the organization. The internet should be of good quality to promote this tool and the users should be aware of everything for installation.

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

TERMINALFOUR is an excellent application for all types of educational institutions. It doesn’t help to promote our page on social media, but, also provides solid strategies to rank the page on Google. So, our website is referring to our whole organization and everyone can see the page with a single click. The management has not done anything except to install this application in the system and the remaining work is making this tool. So, I must say this software is running a campaign on social forums with great responsibility. Our institution is getting more admissions and we can guide everyone without any trouble.

  ### 9. My time with Terminal Four

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ammar Z. | President, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 05, 2020

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

Friendly interface and visible directory helps keep everything in view. The analytics screen is very descriptive , it tells you what's up in an instant and transitioning is generally smooth.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

It is a bit expensive, It doesn't offer something to set it apart from the rest. Like a key feature which no one else has.

**Recommendations to others considering Terminalfour:**

Everything is there, just gotta find it on the screen without worrying.

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is helping us engage more with our students digitally but we cannot tell if its actually effective because digital traffic isn't necessarily transforming into physical traffic. So we feel it should do more. It is helping us develop an online community for our students and we've been more successful in that ever since terminal four.

  ### 10. My best experience with terminal four

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Srinivas E. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2020

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

Providing digital marketing & web content management systems (WCMS) and specializes in providing WCMS to educational institutions throughout the world.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

Their is no such disliking thing in usage of terminal four.

**Recommendations to others considering Terminalfour:**

I highly recommend to use this Terminal four as it is user friendly and easy to learn this skill and to implement as well.

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Digital Transformation and minor in system integration.

  ### 11. Easy to use, not much customization

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Emily M. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 28, 2020

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

This is a really great system for users who are new to managing websites. Personally, I think it's easier to use than WordPress.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

It's harder to customize every aspect of your site.

**Recommendations to others considering Terminalfour:**

It's a simple, easy to use website management service. Give it a try!

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A simple, easy to use website management software. I loved it.

  ### 12. Straightforward and Collaborative Way to manage Web Content for Large Organization

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2019

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

TerminalFour is relatively straightforward and simple to use. I would consider myself a "light" user of the product (i.e. staff reporting to me have been the main ones updating and publishing content), yet I find it relatively easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

Occasionally I run across something that is not as intuitive as one might think. I'm a user at a department level, and our primary administrators in MarComm/ITS provide training for university staff. There are some tips and workarounds I remember learning in training that I never would have figured out on my own.

**Recommendations to others considering Terminalfour:**

For us, it has been a good solution for a complex institution with many different departments and users/administrative staff using the system. I am not sure if it is more complex a tool than necessary for a very small business - but worth considering if that may be the case.

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a university, it allows MarComm/ITS staff to assign administrative privileges at the department level and have many users in T4 whom are able to update their respective department pages within approved templates. There are checkpoints in place to ensure only approved content is published.

  ### 13. TERMINALFOUR is a great web content management tool!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Farhana R. | IT Project Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2019

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

What I really like best of TERMINALFOUR is that it has almost everything to be the best web content management tool out there. And something that I like the best from it is its easy-to-use interface, you can search, track and find everything in just one place. Also, media library and preview function makes it pretty reliable. Also web management tool has an out-of-the-box ability of doing things without causing issues while jobs are done.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

This software is not perfect at all and has issues like every other solution out there and I have to say that one issue that bothers me is that RSS feeds sometimes are clumsy or stuck in time, my team and I couldn't find the reason yet, we've reached with technical support and they will help us soon. So far, this software doesn't have anything else that encourages me to dislike TERMINALFOUR or any of its features.

**Recommendations to others considering Terminalfour:**

I highly recommended TERMINALFOUR for those who are encouraging to achieve and master how this tool work and cooperates with its functions across the workflow and the GUI interface alongside with users and clients as well. Also, taking advantage of training sessions is pretty important if you want to take all the best that this solution actually offers to its users and third-party clients.

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

TERMINALFOUR has helped us a lot with our business problems so far, thanks to this software we were able to get into web editing, managing, overseeing and maintaining issues that were solved in a very quickly way. Clients and third-party users are able to see how websites are done and finished without losing anything from their sight. Also they would see data and metrics progress in order to improve client-provider engaging methods.

  ### 14. Used to be a great product but support for local authorities has dramatically decreased

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 31, 2018

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

It allows users to add content to their website.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

Not intuitive and hard to do simple things and difficult integration with AD

**Recommendations to others considering Terminalfour:**

if you are in a higher education this can be a great product as it is geared towards that sector.

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Used for Extranet for access to certain groups outside of the council.

  ### 15. Content management software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2018

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

I don’t have much experience to compare, but the software was easy to learn to use.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

Nothing about my experience has been particularly negative.

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use T4 to manage and update our website.

  ### 16. Department website using T4

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2017

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

The interface is makes web design simple, but you can still go into the HTML code if you choose.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

We had several training sessions for this and, although it is very simple to use compared to strictly writing in HTML, not all tasks and fixes are intuitive and we had to rely on our T4 trainer to help with much of this.

**Recommendations to others considering Terminalfour:**

Definitely take advantage of the training sessions and ask as many questions as possible. Our rep was fantastic with helping, but we were constantly working on the site and coming up with problems for them to help us work through

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Web design for our department website. The cataloging of old articles posted is great, but it did take some time to work this out.

  ### 17. T4 has offered us a better way to manage our website content

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2017

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

Ease of use is the best part of T4, it makes it easier for us to empower other content contributors to update their own work since it is so intuitive.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

There are some issues with RSS feeds breaking.

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we have content overload with lots of content editors, so this helps us manage that volume and frees our team up from having to update so many webpages.

  ### 18. t4

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 15, 2017

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

Easy to use, search function in media library, preview function

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

There are some annoying quirks when removing existing media

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it to update our employee intranet site, which we do quite frequently. I like that you can modify a document and it automatically updates on the site.

  ### 19. TERMINALFOUR, an excellent content management system

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter W. | Web Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 01, 2016

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

I've used T4 (TERMINALFOUR) for just over 4 years and there are many aspects of it I love. The modular system of 'Page layouts' (templates) and 'content types' (user input areas) allows for complete control over how your webpages are built and managed.
The user management aspect of the system is also very good, with groups and individual users it makes organising user access extremely easy.
The T4 'Extranet', or community help, has been an invaluable training resource. The webpages allow us to teach new users how to easily use the system with very little input from our team needed.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

When bugs are discovered and T4 has been notified, unless its completely site critical their response can be delayed and take rather a long time get resolved.
Due to T4 being non-responsive, it is almost unusable on mobile devices.
Although the T4 'Extranet' system holds some very useful infromation, it can be rather hard to find if you're new to the system.

**Recommendations to others considering Terminalfour:**

Brilliant all round content management system. Specialises in hosting large scale websites, as its modular layout and use of 'Page layouts' (templates) caters for the quick and easy implantation of new pages. If you have a small website with fewer than a hundred pages, this may not be for you. If you have a site with thousands this may be just what you're looking for.

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We can easily manage and control all of the users who have access to edit our University webpages. Allowing us to make sure only users that are trained to an adequate level can edit our content.
The modular system of T4 allows us to have complete control over our website, with no limitations whatsoever to what design features and functionality we want.
Hosts our entire University website (1000's of pages) and hundreds of users with ease, while we, the administrators, can still easily keep control over what goes on.

  ### 20. A great website maintenance tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Will T. | Software Engineer, Insurance, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2016

**What do you like best about Terminalfour?**

The website maintenance tool is very easy to use and a great asset in maintenance and gathering of data that allows us to engage our targeted audience. Our online interaction has improved greatly with our core audience.

**What do you dislike about Terminalfour?**

It would be nice to export the data from the website and create metrics that count.

**Recommendations to others considering Terminalfour:**

None

**What problems is Terminalfour solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Website maintenance issues. The metrics and data we have gathered have improved our engagement with our audience.
