Technicians can provide the database with technical information about configurations and relationships between a diverse pallet of products, which is then instantly available for sales personnel when they create offers and BOMs. This saves time on both sides, and improves reliability by taking a good deal of human error out of the equation. Especially on the sales side, my company has seen such efficiency improvements since using Tacton, that working without it would no longer be acceptable. The time required for a sale representative to create a complicated technical offer has been reduced from days to minutes. **What do you dislike about Tacton CPQ?** The only criticism i can think of has to do with the non-configurable products. We still use TC-Site, and we have many different sales-groups. Each sales group has price lists, templates, products, etc. that are assigned to them. The only aspect of TC-Site that cannot be assigned to these sales groups is the non-configurable list. This has led to the creation of several sites for different sales groups, which means much more overhead to do updates. This is solved with CPQ i believe, which we are not yet using. Really this is the only issue I can think of, everything else that we have had problems with has been solved by the quite competent support team at Tacton. **Recommendations to others considering Tacton CPQ:** Measure twice, cut once. You should be prepared to invest manpower into the administration of this tool. It is worth the cost, but the management of the product database is a full-time job. (this of course depends on the complexity of the products to be configured). Also consider integration into Salesforce, SAP, etc. These interconnections are costly and difficult to implement, so they should be planned well. But they are also worth it, to reduce double-data-entry and human-error. **What problems is Tacton CPQ solving and how is that benefiting you?** Time-saving and reduction of human-error are the biggest advantages. We have also implemented approval-processes in Tacton that help us monitor and control the profit situation across the sales team. We need not to learn any special coding/language to write the programs in Tacton. It is very helpful for solving the rule based problems very quickly. It is also very easy to integrate with external calculation programs like MathCAD, STAAD, Fortran, etc, **What do you dislike about Tacton CPQ?** The configurator can be improved in iterative calculations like goal seek function and loop calculations. Even though we can do this in the current version using JavaScript, it would be nice to have this feature in Tacton function itself. **What problems is Tacton CPQ solving and how is that benefiting you?** Initially we started using this configurator for Proposal purposes, later we have expanded the configurator for doing the order work as well. Even thouh the CPQ has a lot of limitations, out Tacton team always tries to find a workaround. We also have a very good working environment. We hope we can keep it as we had difficulties in the past trying to adjust, either to the PM or to the consultants. **What do you dislike about Tacton CPQ?** I was expecting a lot more from the tool. I think in the begining Tacton offered us a lot more than the tool can actually do and it's very frustrating. Some functionalities that we thought were existing in the CPQ are not there and are not even being considered in the roadmap, so constantly we need to spend a lot of money trying to fnd workarounds for functionalities that for our company were a MUST from the beginning. We have also experienced some dificulties with some of the consultants as they don't really know how the CPQ works so we have noticed this is very inefficient. I also believe this is being solved as we advance in the project and as the consultants acquire more exprience. Also if Tacton tries to keep the more experienced consultants (we lost the 2 best consultants we had because they left to other companies). **Recommendations to others considering Tacton CPQ:** I would say, be very clear with what the business/technical side is requesting frim the beginning, have a very detailed defining phase. Get information about the product and what it can deliver, not only from the Tacton sales people but try to find similar cases that you can compare your company to. Be aware of the product limitations, it might be a headache or a very helpfull tool depending on what you are aiming for. Try to document everything, have daily or bi-weekly meetings, work very closely with the PM, if you have a good one is very helpful. **What problems is Tacton CPQ solving and how is that benefiting you?** We required a configurator that could support our sales force in the sales process starting with the opportunity until the manufacturing of complex products. We needed a tool that could support multiple products in multiple legal entities, countries and factories (this is currently not solved but this was the initial idea).. Even though we have crossed into multiple limitations, we have found a way to work with it. I also see that other companies are using it successfully which is a relief. One of the biggest problems with writing programs to automate your processes is that you can get locked into certain ways of doing things, but with Tacton you can keep your product flexible and easy to change.
