"Clean, Unified Console for Visibility, Workload Monitoring, and Access Control"
5/5
What do you like best about Starburst?

The web console and management interface provide clean visibility into cluster health, query execution paths, and resource usage. Navigating the UI makes it straightforward to monitor active workloads, administer fine-grained access control, and manage data products from a single pane of glass without jumping across disparate cloud environments. Good project. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Starburst?

Cost and Resource Tuning While the performance is exceptional, optimizing resource consumption and memory limits for massive, highly concurrent federated queries requires deep tuning expertise. Misconfigured queries or missing pushdowns can inadvertently trigger high cloud infrastructure costs. Additionally, enterprise licensing and managed service pricing can scale steeply for smaller teams, making it a platform best suited for large-scale data environments. "Fast, Flexible Federated SQL Across Multiple Data Sources"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Starburst?

It provides all the advantages of Presto, such as reducing the time required for analysis and making it easier to access data. It can run a single SQL query across multiple different data sources at the same time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Starburst?

Sometimes performance drops with large or complex federated queries. When queries are complex and there are many concurrent users, I notice slowness and overall performance issues, especially when the query involves a large amount of data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Fast, Streamlined Multi-Source Queries with Starburst"
4/5
What do you like best about Starburst?

The best features of Starburst that I like most are its multi-source data access and the performance of the Trino engine. Without needing data migration, queries run super fast and workflows get streamlined. The AI-driven query optimization is an unexpected bonus that helps reduce my workload. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Starburst?

Starburst’s pricing feels steep for smaller teams, the advanced setup can be complicated for non-technical users, and the dashboard customization options are fairly limited, which reduces overall flexibility. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Data Virtualization Platform for Unified Analytics and AI-Driven Insights"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Starburst?

What I like best about Starburst is how it simplifies querying and analyzing data across multiple sources without requiring data movement. The platform's data virtualization capabilities make it easy to access data from different cloud storage systems, databases, and data lakes through a single interface. The UI is intuitive and makes managing queries and datasets straightforward, even for users who are not data engineering experts.

Performance has been consistently strong, especially when working with large datasets, and the query optimization features help reduce processing times significantly. Starburst's integrations with major cloud providers and analytics tools make it easy to fit into existing data workflows. I also appreciate the governance and security features, which help maintain control over data access without adding unnecessary complexity.

Another major benefit is the cost efficiency gained from avoiding data duplication and reducing the need for complex ETL pipelines. The onboarding experience was smooth, and the documentation and support resources made it easy to get started. Overall, Starburst has improved our ability to access and analyze data quickly while maintaining performance, scalability, and strong governance. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Starburst?

One downside of Starburst is that there can be a learning curve when setting up and optimizing more complex data architectures, especially for teams that are new to data virtualization concepts. While the platform offers extensive functionality, some advanced configuration and performance tuning options may require deeper technical knowledge to fully leverage.

The AI-powered features are promising, but they are still evolving. In some cases, AI-generated query suggestions or natural language capabilities may require refinement and validation before being used in production workflows. Users with highly specialized data environments may find that the AI assistance does not always fully understand their specific business context or data models.

In certain scenarios involving highly complex queries across multiple data sources, troubleshooting performance bottlenecks can take time. The user interface is generally well designed, but some administrative and governance features can feel overwhelming for new users during the initial onboarding phase. Pricing may also be a consideration for smaller organizations with limited data infrastructure needs, as the platform is primarily geared toward enterprise-scale workloads.

Although documentation and support resources are helpful, there are occasions where more detailed examples for advanced AI, governance, and optimization use cases would make implementation easier. Overall, these challenges are relatively minor compared to the benefits, but they are worth considering when evaluating the platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Fast Federated SQL Across Silos, but Complex Queries Need Careful Tuning"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Starburst?

What I like best is its ability to run fast, federated SQL queries across fragmented data sources without needing upfront ETL pipelines.

In telecom, our data is heavily siloed—customer profiles live in relational databases, network logs and CDRs stream into S3 data lakes, and billing data sits in dedicated warehouses. Starburst lets us write a single SQL query joining real-time relational tables with billions of historical log files in S3. This significantly speeds up feature development for network analytics and diagnostics. Additionally, its built-in row and column-level security handles PII masking out of the box, saving us from writing custom compliance logic in our microservices Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Starburst?

The biggest drawback for me is the management overhead and resource consumption when running complex, resource-heavy queries.

Because Starburst operates as an in-memory query engine, unoptimized queries—especially those with massive joins across multiple remote databases—can quickly exhaust cluster memory if they aren’t carefully governed. Keeping things stable takes ongoing DevOps effort, including tuning memory limits, configuring query spill-to-disk settings, and adjusting the autoscaling policy. "Transforming Enterprise Analytics and Enabling AI Through Data Federation"
4/5
What do you like best about Starburst?

- True data federation that enables querying and joining data across diverse sources without data movement or duplication.

- High-performance distributed SQL engine that delivers fast, secure, and governed access to enterprise data at scale.

- Open lakehouse architecture with strong support for Iceberg and cloud-native ecosystems, reducing vendor lock-in and improving flexibility.

- Continuous innovation through capabilities like AIDA, Starburst Agents, MCP, and Data Products, positioning the platform well for AI-powered data engineering and analytics. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Starburst?

- Connector capabilities can be inconsistent, with some source-specific database features and metadata not fully supported across all connectors.

- Troubleshooting complex queries can be challenging, as error messages and diagnostics could provide more actionable insights for faster root cause analysis. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Federated SQL + Solid API Automation on Managed Elastic Compute"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Starburst?

The federated query layer — one SQL surface over S3/Iceberg and Redshift — combined with a solid public API that lets us automate the whole cluster/catalog lifecycle for self-service onboarding, on managed elastic compute we don't have to operate. The AI capabilities are an add-on advantage Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Starburst?

Currently rough edge is managing catalogs at scale (per-cluster limits and some API latency), but it's easy enough to work around. The pricing runs a little on the higher side, so cost is something we keep an eye on as usage grows Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
