## Starburst Reviews
  ### 1. Efficient querying solution across multiple data sources

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Karche G. | Senior Data Architect, Construction, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 01, 2024

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

What I consider most impressive is the way Starburst can query data from multiple sources as long as it doesn’t have to move or duplicate them. Namely, it has helped to optimize our work process, providing better data processing from such sources as AWS S3 and PostgreSQL. The key enhancement offered by the software has been ability to handle complex queries and integrate well with the current data architecture, which has significantly boosted our ability to identify and use data analytics in decision making.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

One area that may be tricky in Starburst is the setup and configuration of the platform. While the platform is highly versatile, fine tuning how it interacts with different data sources can be surprisingly cumbersome at times. This has taken a lot of time to set up initially and has required a more technical team from us than we had anticipated. Moreover, inexperience is a concern that can result in a time consuming period before they can start contributing which has been an issue.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Starburst helps solve the problem of data scattering because with it, one can query data from different sources while the sources do not have to be incorporated into a single database. This capability has rectified one of the biggest limitations we used to have in terms of real time data access and analysis. It has streamlined the process, reduced the amount of time spent on data preprocessing and let’s concentrate on analysis and decision making. Thus, the operation has become increasingly more impersonal and based on received information.

**Official Response from Lauren Kim:**

> Hi Karche!
Thank you for your thoughtful feedback on Starburst. We're glad to hear that its ability to query data from multiple sources without moving or duplicating it has optimized your workflow and enhanced your data analytics capabilities. We appreciate your insights on the challenges with setup and configuration, and we understand how fine-tuning for different data sources can be time-consuming. We’ll continue to work on making the platform even more user-friendly for teams like yours.

  ### 2. We finally found a way to improve data processes and decision making in our company

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aira B. | Senior Data Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 18, 2024

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

What I like most about Starburst is that it assimilates well with tools like Tableau and AWS S3 to perform queries on data without any hindrance. In this case, it is very friendly to use and hence, does not cause a difficulty when dealing with large datasets. Starburst is wonderful because it enables me to query other sources while still being at the data, no more moving the data around all the time! I especially like the functionality of dealing with different kinds of data, which definitely makes the work of my team more effective.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

A drawback of Starburst is the complex setup that can be technically challenging, especially if the team tries to implement it in systems that do not allow it easily. There were certain challenges that we experienced during the implementation process and this hampered our schedule a little. Moreover, the reaction of customer support was not as fast as we expected, which made the problem solving stage longer than it could be. Some of these issues caused some frustration, especially when we were still setting up the various software solutions.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Starburst solves the problem of working with data in different sources without having to physically move the data, which has been a significant boost in our data handling processes. This has been of benefit to our team as it has reduced the time spent in data management and we are left with the analysis part. Its simple and many functions enable us collect information fast and thus work more effectively and make better decisions.

**Official Response from Megan Kemphaus:**

> Thank you, Aira, for your feedback! We're glad Starburst is improving your data processes and decision-making, and we appreciate your insights on areas where we can improve.

  ### 3. A true game changer for many data querying processes

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Harold M. | Senior Data Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 18, 2024

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

One point worth considering is that Starburst is designed to work with various data sources which means that data processing is a lot easier. The plethora of features it has especially on querying large is quite helpful in enhancing our work progression. We have connected it to other applications such as our BI tools and the data lake and no problems have arisen from it. This integration capability is a game changer because it eliminates the difficulty in managing data from multiple sources thus enhancing our workflow.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

Overall, the main drawback of Starburst is that it is not very easy to set up, particularly for first time users. This resulted in some discrepancies in our work schedule as we anticipated in our project plan. Furthermore, owing to our rarity in its application, it took extra time to familiarise ourselves with it. The customer support is also not up to the mark at some times, they take more time to reply and on occasions this delay has messed up our working schedule as we needed immediate help.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has been advantageous for Starburst to revolutionize the case of managing data across multiple sources. Before, on the other hand, acquiring data was quite a task and made our operations very slow. Now with Starburst, I can query the data from different platforms without moving and this has enhanced our working rate and decision making processes. Besides, it has positively influenced our team’s efficiency and helped to prioritize more important strategies rather than spending time on such matters as data processing.

**Official Response from Lauren Kim:**

> Hi Harold!

Thank you for your valuable feedback on Starburst. We’re thrilled that the integration capabilities and ease of processing data from multiple sources have enhanced your workflow and decision-making.
We also appreciate your honesty regarding the challenges with setup and customer support response times. We’re actively working to simplify the onboarding process and improve our support to better meet your expectations.
Your insights are invaluable, and we look forward to continuing our partnership and supporting your success.

  ### 4. Starburst - A best of breed Data Lakehouse

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dinesh D. | Big Data, AI and Architecture, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2024

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

Starburst has been a much needed upgrade from our opensource presto and CDH approach for our Data Lake and Lakehouse needs. Our vendor experience with Starburst has been top notch, with their exceptional architects working hand in hand with us throughout the process. They have been willing to address new feature requests and even turn them around very quickly. They have been a great partner willing to take our inputs to their product roadmap and have executed flawlessly for the past 5 years that we have worked with them. Their user friendly interface has constantly had new upgrades all the time and a great hit with our customer base.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

Starburst is a niche player in the Datalakehouse space and while they are a connector company and work with other products in the ecosystem, we wish they were a player that brings the same high standards to other areas of the data ecosystem.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Starburst has helped us roll out our Data Lake to a larger audience , due to the ease of access, while still allowing the fine grain access control that our company demands.

**Official Response from Megan Kemphaus:**

> Thank you, Dinesh, for your detailed review! We're thrilled to hear that Starburst has enhanced your data lakehouse experience and that our team has been a valuable partner in your journey. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to continuing our collaboration to bring even more value to your data ecosystem.

  ### 5. We fixed many issues with efficient data access and querying solution

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zdenek Z. | Senior Data Analyst, Research, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 25, 2024

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

I personally favor Starburst for its enhancement on the query aspect and the numerous features it brings to the table. The ability to work with several sources at once is very useful and simplifies the process of querying data a lot. It has many features and I like that I can always get help from customer support when I need something explained to me. It has only been used more frequenlty in our team due the reliable and fast results it produces making it one of the most useful tools in the team.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

The one thing that I do not like with regards to Starburst is the fact that its interfaces are very confusing. Many of its features are not immediately obvious and can be confusing to a new user, therefore, making it take a steep learning curve. These make our onboarding time consuming occasionally leading to usage blunders. In addition, documentation is not as detailed as they ought to be, making it hard to address problems as soon as possible. These problems contribute to the decreased productivity and longer time taken to train new employees.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Starburst addresses the problem of organizing data available from various sources and querying them. Indeed it has eased our working by providing insights which enable us to make good decisions within shorter time. To me and my colleagues, it translates as less time on waiting for data and more time conducting data analysis. This efficiency helps us in managing our projects better and complete our work in the time that is set for it. The compatibility with other software creates a strong and well coordinated environment in data processes.

**Official Response from Megan Kemphaus:**

> Hi Zdenek,

We're delighted that Starburst has enhanced your data querying efficiency and supports your team's productivity. Thank you for your feedback on the interface and documentation; improving these is a priority for us. If you need assistance or have suggestions, please reach out!

Best,
Megan

  ### 6. Discover the ultimate solution for data querying

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Segreteria K. | Business Intelligence Manager, Professional Training & Coaching, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 19, 2024

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

One thing that strikes me about Starburst is that it can issue queries across many different sources of data quickly without having to stream the data about. This has reduced my time to prepare the data and our efficiency has improved greatly as a result. Besides, the customer support is great, they are always available when we have issues. The software work is rather efficient and is not fraught with failures or crashes, thus, our tasks are solved effectively.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

One disadvantage apparent with Starburst is that, it is quite complex to set up and this needed a lot of time and technicality to accomplish. This affected us in the sense that it slowed down our productivity especially in starting the activities of the day. Furthermore, the large number of features is a bit challenging for newcomers and may increase the time learners need to understand the product fully. These challenges we identified delayed our first implementation and training cycles.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Starburst makes the challenge of data fragmentation easier to address because we are able to query the data across different sources and types without the need to move the data. This has enhanced the data availability and also cut the time taken in data integration mechanism drastically. Besides, it adds value to our team since there is an opportunity to perform analyses and provide reports that contribute to faster decision making.

  ### 7. Easy to implement and manage, security documentation from vendor side could be better.

**Reviewed by:** Tomas S. | Systems Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 03, 2024

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

Easy to implement an manage, customer support is very responsive/knowledgable.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

Documentation on best security configuration practices could be better.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Improving query performance and I would say reduces our costs.

  ### 8. Finally we improved data integration and analysis in our company

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Francesca G. | Senior Data Analyst, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 13, 2024

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

Starburst outperforms when it comes to the compatibility that has made it easy to fit in our current data ecosystem, Apache Kafka, and AWS S3. It has an easy to use SQL front end that makes searching multiple data sets possible even for those who do not have a database background. Also, its high performance guarantees a fast connection to vast amounts of data, needed for analytics, to us. These capabilities greatly improve our ability to extract insights for decision making that is valuable for the business.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

The only issue that I have with Starburst is that traffic can cause the system to slow down, somewhat annoying to me. Also, the reply to the customer support is not always immediate, which may prove to be a bother at some point. These weaknesses have every now and then led to time overruns and have to some extent affected our productivity in that they have put a lot of strain on our ability to meet our deadlines.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Multiple issue for querying data is very well handled by Starburst and this is because it addresses the issue of querying data with multiple sources. It helps to define a working flow of data analytics when used in connection with Apache Kafka and AWS S3. It improves the decision making capability not only through timely intelligence but also increases efficiency in the sense of eliminating time taken in data preparation. Taking into account the nature of Starburst in general, the organization has revolutionized the culture of data analysis with a focus on flexibility and demand from businesses.

**Official Response from Megan Kemphaus:**

> Hi Francesca, we appreciate that you took the time to leave Starburst a review! Your feedback is valued to us, and will be reviewed by our team to make sure we're providing the best customer experience.

  ### 9. Now our management of complex queries is super simple!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Erica M. | Business Intelligence Developer, Legal Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 09, 2024

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

The most valuable use of Starburst for our team is the centralization of different data sources to combine them in one place to execute queries. This consolidation has clearly eradicated the problem of having to deal with numerous data store houses and has made our analytical exercises easy and effective. There is seamless compatibility of this tool with other business inteligence tools we are already using in our organization, thus we were able to refine our other applications. These improvements have been made possible by the harmonious integration of these separated processes.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

The only issue I have with Starburst is the latency that comes with it especially when working with big data. Such a delay can compromise our data analysis processes and decrease the business’s operational productivity. However, it should also be mentioned that the initial setup process was long and required a lot of efforts and deep technical knowledge. Such difficulties have at times required delaying certain projects thus making it hard to stick to strict timelines.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Overall, I have found Starburst as a perfect fit to address our data fragmentation issues since I don’t have to replicate data into my data marts before querying them. It has enhanced the automation of our data collection process and analysis which has made it easier to make better decisions in a shorter time. Incorporation with some of our previous tools has enhanced our working efficiency by providing an idea about our data as a whole, which was very challenging to consider beforehand.

**Official Response from Megan Kemphaus:**

> Hi Erica! Thank you for sharing your review with us. We appreciate the feedback!

Best,
Megan

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

Every time customer adds data source application needs to be rebuilt. It takes time and effort like change control in financial instituion. We need ability to add data soures from UI.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Speeding up database calls.

  ### 13. One of the best product & outstanding service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dominie J. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

Easy to implement, great productivity. Starburst team's support is amazing.
They take all our feedback seriously and try to incorporate the required features in the future releases.

  ### 14. Good query engine, but be aware of the pricing model

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vinicius R. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2023

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

- Good UI
- Diverse set of connectors
- Good query usage logs
- Decent user attribution to those queries
- Good Support Experience

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

Pricing model that aside from charging for the license, we also need to pay for the provided CPU hour.
This feels like a double charge taking into account that I'm already paying for that infrastrustructure on my cloud provider, specially taking into account that we have to fully manage our infrastructure and their support will not help us on this side.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- It's our Data Mesh main query engine.
- We use it to access data from different raw sources (S3 + Glue, RDBMS) and even different cloud providers like GCP
- Removing some of the cognitive load of running Trino OpenSource on EKS

  ### 15. Excellent Service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Madhusudan S. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2023

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

I had a positive experience with Starburst Data's support team. Their representatives were responsive and knowledgeable, addressing my queries promptly. The support staff demonstrated excellent communication skills and showed genuine empathy towards my concerns. They efficiently resolved my technical issues, ensuring minimal downtime. I appreciate the professionalism and availability of their support team. Overall, it was a great experience receiving support from Starburst Data.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

To be honest as a user I didnot find any limitations however i like to get custom alerts whenever we have any unsual spike or utilisation go high.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have to query form multiple databases and we need multiple database connection at one place and details query analysis. We use presto data for our reports and dashboards.

  ### 16. Great Enterprise version of Trino

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pablo T. | Software Engineer - Data Platform, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

Honestly I think Starburst does a great job on building on top of open source Trino to give some nice quality of life features.
The performance is mostly great and the support is amazing.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

Honestly there is not much to dislike at this point. We still run on specific performance issues for certain use cases that we need to fine tune, but the support has been helping us along the way.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Starburst functions as SQL layer, allowing our users to query their data within our DataMesh structure.
I believe that initial setup is fairly straightforward and the support is really helpful for the corner cases.

All in all, easy way to empower our users to use the Data that we produce (=

  ### 17. Supporting, tunning multiple workloads in production

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Davi Z. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

Great support, awnser every question, very fast awnsers for first request. Great product, meet almost all ours needs. Delivery high quality and very acurate. It needs to improve on some points, but nothing that discredits or leaves something to be desired.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

Sometime we expirienced some delay in ticket loop. Should invest efforts to make some features toggleable, make it more flexible. FTE, mult-tenant, and add some query history in console, with statistics , would be great.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

After we make starburst (trino) available to all company members, changed the way they see data. Due to the nature of Trino it can connect to multiple databases/datastores we have no more delays to delivery information.

  ### 18. An excellent production with a strong support team.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Executive Office | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

Ease of use powerful tool. An support team that is very responsive.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

Complexity in configuration which requires insight knowlodge. The online installation guide is only at high level.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1. High performance tool for visulizing data from multiple sources.
2. Able to handle diversed data sources.
3. Integration with other tools in our environment.

  ### 19. Great support for a great product

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shawn M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 07, 2023

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

Starburst is a great product, it has been very stable, and has enabled our business to make business decisions faster by making a single source of data for all of our sources. The implementation team from Starburst has been extremely helpful, and has worked to help push our team in the right direction and continued to drive us forward.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

I am happy that Starburst is implementing built-in row-level filtering and masking. Ranger has been our only pain point with Starburst. That being said, ranger has worked well, it just is implemented as a completely separate application, which requires its own authentication and management system to work.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Starburst has made it much easier for our users to access data from different data sources without having to use different tools to connect to those data sources. Additionally, Starburst gives us the ability to apply security filtering necessary for our GovCloud environment.

**Official Response from Megan Kemphaus:**

> Hi Shawn, it's great to hear that Starburst is enabling your business to make faster decisions on all of your data. Thank you for taking the time to share feedback, which helps us to continually make improvements on our offering.

  ### 20. Starburst is the best tool to reach data products across our organization

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2023

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

Starburts allows us to reach data products across our organization and join data from different data sources easily.
Starburst is constantly improving the product and is a company that listens to client requests.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

The resilience of workers can be improved, support for more ranger policy templates like ADLS, improvement of push down queries mechanisms that sometimes cause huge network traffic bringing data to Starburst and the query could be performed at datasource level (same catalog and database).

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To centralize the data products access in one single point and starburst is the tool chosen by us to that.

  ### 21. Smooth migration. Great performance and cost efficiencies

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 31, 2023

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

We migrated to Galaxy to improve the performance of our dashboards. We had a very smooth migration to Galaxy, with excellent help from SB solution engineers. All in all, Galaxy showed out-of-the-box high performance, allowing us to generate insights more quickly and make data-driven decisions faster, and tremendous cost efficiencies

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

I think that the user interface of the cluster can still improve in terms of its stability and convenience, and more configuration options can be added to the admin screen.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In addition to the smooth migration process, we have seen significant query cost savings since moving to Galaxy. Trino's query engine is highly optimized for complex analytical queries, allowing us to run queries more efficiently and with fewer resources. As a result, we have reduced our query costs by a significant amount, which has been a major benefit for our company. Since migrating to Galaxy, we have seen a significant improvement in query performance. With Trino's distributed architecture and parallel processing capabilities, we can run queries much faster than we were able to with our previous data warehouse solution. This has allowed us to generate insights and make data-driven decisions more quickly, which has been a massive advantage for our business.

  ### 22. I am data Engineering Manager and our team heavily used this tool to meet our business needs

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** June 07, 2022

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

the features supported and Documentation is very detailed and easy to follow-up

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

Some Error messages are not very clear when we try to integrate with hive database

**Recommendations to others considering Starburst:**

Highly recommend this tool to other teams and other companies

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

they connect with us regularly and collecting the logs and assigning a dedicated technical resource is very helpful for us to get a quick turnaround

  ### 23. Implementing Starburst within a Lakehouse Architecture

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 30, 2023

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

Starburst is great for acting as a Data Federation Hub. It is simple to configure new connectors and getting those up and running very quickly.
Starburst integration and acceleration of iceberg based data in S3 was the key selling point for us. Enabling our vision of a Lakehouse based on AWS .

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

The public facing documentation does not quite cover all the nuances of installation and configuration. We encounter a couple of scenarios where the documentation didn't go far enough with instructions. However, the account team were able to fill in the gaps.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our challenge was allowing a single interface for data consumers and production processes to query across our established data warehouse and our lakehouse. Allowing us to link data that could not be linked before.

  ### 24. Starburst Enterprise on-premise review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 31, 2023

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

Starburst works great for us since we can seamlessly connect different databases and perform join operations between them without ever needing to transport our data. It's very convenient to discover and query data that has been connected.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

Currently i can not think of any downsides. Since i started working with Starburst it has been a smooth ride where things just work the way i want to, when i want to.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It creates a single point of access of our companies data, making analytics and other data operations incredible smooth and convenient. Personally i benefit from it since it abstracts away alot of the technical details and just lets me focus on using the data.

  ### 25. Great Product

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yash T. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

We have found that Starburst Enterprise is very easy to deploy, use and administer. The tool has many connectors and can run queries across multiple data sources which power all our ad-hoc analyses from various teams. The support systems are very helpful and the case response time is quite low and resulting in faster resolution.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

We ran into issues during the upgrade due to some undocumented breaking changes that affected our timelines. Maybe a way to administer adding or removing data catalogs without restarting the cluster.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Enterprise connectors allow us to easily connect legacy source systems to our modern ones. Starburst Support is extremely helpful and knowledgeable with very technical questions Starburst product features continue to impress, such as Insights and Galaxy, and the integration capabilities are very strong

**Official Response from Megan Kemphaus:**

> Hi Yash, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review! Your feedback is very much appreciated.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

I don't like that my queries get cancelled because of limits.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using starburst to allow users to query from our Data Products, and it is a good interface.

  ### 27. Easy tool to integrate multiple platforms data into single

In the latest versions of Starburst, We liked the idea of Data products. It helps us integrate data from different sources like Hadoop, SQL and Mongo. Easy to query the tables and track the history.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

Wish more support for Mongo tables data. Some of the data types are not supported to query in starburst.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Integrating multiple data sources into single platform.

  ### 28. Starburst Trino great tool for data analytics data scientists

Nothing specific dislike about Starburst's product.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

for large numbers of data processing, it makes it simple to use

  ### 30. Ingest and Act on Data Faster

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Haydn J. | Director Of Business Development, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 16, 2023

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

Starburst has empowered our team to take large data sets and really understand how those datasets will optimize our business model. Starburst has a UI that makes this process both easy and seamless as well.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

While Starburst's concept offers a straightforward approach toward obtaining helpful data in an ingestible way, at times the connectors/integrations do not work as expected.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For our team, we encounter large lead lists and analytics on performances by our teams, partners, and affiliates. Starburst allows us to identify areas of both strength and weakness that we previously would spend hours sifting through to understand.

**Official Response from Megan Kemphaus:**

> Thank you Haydn for sharing your thoughts on Starburst with us!

  ### 31. Our data, previously difficult to work with, feels unlocked

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 31, 2023

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

1. Seamless querying across databases, even of different types.

2. Transparent troubleshooting.

3. Built on top of open source software. Makes troubleshooting easier!

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

Only nitpicky things here, like lack of autocomplete in the UI. Also, using the same Hive metastore across multiple catalogs results in all of those catalogs showing every schema in the metastore in every catalog that uses it. Would be nice to filter those.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Like I said in the beginning, it feels like we have unlocked our data for our data analysts and anyone at the organization that needs to get to some data that was previously difficult to access. Being able to query across several databases of different types is incredible and working seamlessly. Hard to imagine working without it at this point.

  ### 32. Visible accelerates time-to-insight leveraging Starburst Galaxy.

Starburst has provided us with a highly professional and personalized user experience towards getting us started with their Galaxy offering.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

Being a relatively new offering, Galaxy lacks some of the features found in Starburst Enterprise, however, functionality is being added on a continual basis.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using Starburst, our customers are able to derive business insights from distributed data sources thereby making more informed decisions around their business strategy.

**Official Response from Megan Kemphaus:**

> Hi Michael, we appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review and share feedback on Starburst Galaxy!

  ### 34. Best data platform on the market

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andre G. | Tech Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 03, 2022

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

First: Extremely effective onboarding (kudos to JB and Jeff!), Second: Extremely powerful product (overpowers Athena by far), Third: Totally friendly user and full of important features to keep track of my jobs and data teams performance, Fourth: easy to deploy and integrate with several services and our data stack.

Smooth and clean platform to adopt in your company.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

So far i have nothing to complain about it. It got everything we need and lots of powerful features as a plus that improve our operations and enable many iniciatives.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At Inter we're facing a new chapter with Trino, where we can effectively democratize our data at a lower cost (compared to Athena and other platforms), all of this with high performance and with no friction with non-tech users. It is taking our data team to another level, enabling the data culture to rise and propagate through all squads and business areas.

  ### 35. Data Analysis Productivity Increase

I like how Starburst helps in faster query performances. Great product and partnership.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

The product will see even better performances if many dependencies on one central node is taken out.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solving big data problems and ability to access data quickly.

  ### 38. Starburst Enterprise is a really good solution to deliver data comsuption for your data environment

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yuri N. | Data Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2022

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

Starburst has a lot of features that improve the experience in comparison with Trino OpenSource. Besides, a lot of features are still in development. The basic features already fill your requirements to make connections between all your sources into a single point of truth.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

We spent a good amount of time configuring the certificates with Apache Ranger and Starburst Enterprise. The Helm Chart of Apache Ranger it's not stable right now and maybe I'll switch to Built-in access control that have the same granulity control of Ranger.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Starburst helps us to configure a Helm Release that is auditable and easily scalable with all the configurations set to our security pattern. And all the solutions are built-in (control and query editor), that we don't need more complexity to create an environment to consume from Trino (Starburst Enterprise).

  ### 39. great features to work with multiple data sources , easy to deploy on AWS / GCP using kubernetes

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Raghwendra S. | SDE 4, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2021

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

starburst presto has very good performance for short running queries ex queries taking 3-5 minutes so for dashboarding this is the go-to choice &
good performance with the delta connector in SEP 370 + compared to the previous versions, Insights Query editor IDE, reduction in query planning time

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

there are some initial hiccups when getting started with a new cloud ex GCP , like applying the license which increases the overall time needed to get started to any developments

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we are able to easily run 100000 dashboarding + adhoc queries without scaling up the cluster , by using a combination of new performance feature from latest presto version & caching at bi tool

due to faster runtime presto is the first choice for our end users

**Official Response from Megan Kemphaus:**

> Hello Raghwendra! We love to hear how you're able to run queries on such a massive scale with great efficiency. Your feedback is important to us, and we'll be sharing it with our Product team so we can evaluate further testing on new releases.

  ### 40. Great support and utilities around the powerful Trino engine

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Simone G. | Engineering Manager - Data platform , Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 02, 2022

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

The care Starburst put in the UX clearly shows. Also, their support and knowledge of the engine are great. The updates on the platform are very frequent, and documentiation is easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

Nothing, in particular. We still have to understand if the costs will grow too much, but it doesn't look like it.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Starburst is used as the Data Mesh Query Engine in our company. It allows connecting BI tools and notebooks to analytics engines as well as exploring the operational databases thanks to its federated nature. We are also exploring using it for data transformation processes instead of Spark, for some cases.

  ### 44. Zalando is a very happy customer of Starburst Enterprise for the last 3 years

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Onur Y. | Engineering Lead, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 21, 2022

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

We have found that Starburst Enterprise that is built on the open source Trino project is very easy to use and administer. The default setup and the fact that SEP is choosing the right JVM and cluster configuration based on the hardware setup we use automatically makes it very easy to use for our workload and has very high performance. The response times of the support cases are very low and result fast in resolution. For critical issues, we can get support from the Trino contributors

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

release management is lacking. We were hit by some undocumented breaking changes in the Trino open source project and Starburst Enterprise deployment model that affected our timelines in the past.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Starburst powers the serving layer of Zalando's data lake on S3. We have more than thousand internal users and 100s of applications using Starburst daily, running 30k+ queries that are processing half a petabyte per day. Starburst is connected to many different BI tools that power dashboards and drive Zalando's business and internal KPIs

**Official Response from Megan Kemphaus:**

> Hi Onur, we greatly appreciate your opinion. Thank you for sharing what you like and dislike, and the problems that are solved on Starburst. We are proud to support your data lake on on the scale that your enterprise requires!

  ### 45. Leads to Success in Business

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vitaly S. | Data Services Delivery Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2022

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

The product is in constant development. Every release brings new features, performance improvements, and fault tolerance enhancements. It helps keep users happy and productive which leads to success in business.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

Storing metadata in Hive metastore creates a lot of overheads. It requests the building of dedicated complex infrastructure and troubleshooting in case of any issues might be a real challenge.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Starburst has replaced many tools and data transformation systems with one unified platform. As a result, it saves time for support and maintenance infrastructure and speeds up the onboarding of users.

  ### 46. New generation product to run your queries across multiple databases

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Himangshu D. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 05, 2021

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

Starburst can run queries across multiple data sources; it can add nodes as workers if you run more prolonged and intense queries. Also, it supports all the new state-of-the-art cloud data sources. It provides out-of-the-box support for all the traditional data sources as well.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

After adding a new catalog, it needs to be restarted. Starburst can provide APIs to add/remove catalogs.

I would love to see more SaaS offerings from Starburst. Also, there're more presto flavor options from Ahaha or Athena, we'd need to know the USP for Starburst.

**Recommendations to others considering Starburst:**

Starburst's SaaS offering is promising. But you can look at - 1. Athena from AWS - is pretty solid. But limited Databases suport.
2. Ahana, I haven't used it but its similar to starburst.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Starburst solves the problem of querying heterogeneous databases spread across multiple distributed systems. It presents these data sources as a single database, and querying across is easier.

**Official Response from Megan Kemphaus:**

> Hi Himangshu, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with your peers and with Starburst! Your opinion matters to us, and we will be reviewing your comments with our Product team. Please reach out if you would like to hear more about our latest Galaxy offering and capabilities.

  ### 47. Starburst has helped us to change the way we work

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ritesh R. | Lead Architect, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 07, 2022

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

Strong product features which helped us to join disparate data sources across different clouds and territories. Also, it helped us to do things a lot faster than we used to do.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

Not much to say but having an automated data cataloguing feature will definitely be nice.

**Recommendations to others considering Starburst:**

If you have trouble with disparate data sources which slows you down in answering business queries or going to market quicker. then Starburst is the right product for you.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Like any other business, we have disparate datasources that reside in different clouds and on-prem. Previously, it was difficult to quickly answer business questions but after Starburst we can connect data sources together without moving any data. Now, it is quite easy to answer any business queries.

**Official Response from Megan Kemphaus:**

> Hi Ritesh, thank you for sharing with your peers how Starburst helps connect your disparate data sources! We are always seeking to improve so your suggestion is appreciated - we will relay it to the Product team.

  ### 48. starburst Trino performance

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** ravi r. | solution architect, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 04, 2022

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

ranger, data mesh, distributed SQL engine

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

tuning is cumbersome to perform some times

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

leveraging federated semantic layer feature, helping business users

  ### 49. Data Mesh / Data Virtualization Realized

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bryan A. | Director, Software Development & Engineering , Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2022

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

Starburst Data Enterprise Trino is a solid solution to enable ad-hoc analytics and cross-platform data join capabilities. It supports both on-premise and the cloud, dozens of connectors, and levels the playing field for folks looking to work with Big Data (without being a Big Data engineer!). It's simple and easy to use, with most folks able to jump right in with high school-level knowledge of ANSI SQL. Performance meets or exceeds most expectations, and we see significant performance gains over technologies like Apache Hive for querying time and efficiency.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

There's not much to dislike here. On a rare occasion, you may run into "bleeding edge" issues and need to wait (usually not too long) for edge cases to be addressed.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm currently using Starburst to make it easier for users to perform cross-platform joins (between data types/technologies), lower the barriers to entry for data exploration, support production-grade ad-hoc analytics, and move in the direction of a data mesh architecture. We have realized benefits in the form of faster processing times, reduced data transfer over the network, and reduced data duplication/storage, resulting in both cost and time savings.

**Official Response from Megan Kemphaus:**

> Hey Bryan, it's great to hear the value you're gaining from Starburst Enterprise! We love to hear how it's making your day-to-day easier. Thank you for being a great customer!

  ### 50. Starburst review from SOPHiA GENETICS

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 22, 2022

**What do you like best about Starburst?**

Regular business meeting, functionality of the product being able to run data queries against decentralized data centers worldwide, great technical support.

**What do you dislike about Starburst?**

Pricing policy defined on the deployed resources instead of Starburst usage only.

**What problems is Starburst solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Starburst Enterprise enables us to query in single queries and very easily our data from multiple data source formats spread worldwide. Starburst includes access control features allowing us to define in detail data access to our users and services. With Starburst we are able to have data governance over our data using their Data Product feature.

**Official Response from Megan Kemphaus:**

> Hello Sophia Genetics! We are grateful that you took the time to write us a review, and we're glad that you're enjoying the solution so far. Your feedback means a lot to us and to your peers looking to make a similar decision!
