One of the reasons I prefer spyder is its easy installation as compared to other python IDEs. I just use it with the anaconda navigator, so I don't have to worry about setting paths. I think it is limited in its scope for the audience. I definitely think this is a better tool for data scientists as opposed to general python developers, because it is quite heavy on the memory too. Here are some feature about Spyder that i like: 1. Inbuilt IPython console which helps experimenting with the output of the script. 2. Plot graphs and export it in different formats. What do you dislike about spyder download? Spyder is best real time analysis IDE but it still cannot stood up to VSCode and Pycharm. Debugging in Pycharm or VSCode is lot more easier and have various debugging options which we lacks in Spyder. Spyder is No. 1 Python IDE when it comes to learning, it provide minimal suggestion so that you have to memorize important things and its user interface is easy to understand. These are some points why i support Spyder: 1. IPython : Spyder has inbuilt IPython run environment (Command Line) which helps to enter commands or use the output of your code. 2. Variable explorer is also useful which tells you everything from type, size and its value. 3. These are some points which i dislike about Spyder other than it is best :- 1. Poor debugging functionality, compare to other IDE's. 2. Not flexible for other languages. 3. Spyder stands out of other python IDEs because of it's main feature "Variable Explorre", which is required all the time for Data Scientist like to observe all the variable data. I've used Atom,Sublime, PyCharm but none of these offers variable explorer as good as Spyder. Pandas dataframe and numpy arrays are displayed succinctly along with indexes and object types! Makes life easy! Other features like console, debugger work good as expected. Although Spyder UI is bit old-looking, still a good choice for Data Science work.. Few add-on options like of PyCharm would've been more helpful. Takes time to open (10+ seconds on SSD) UI still looks little bit old. Material colors in UI would look good. Being a python developer I started my journey with Spyder as one of the best Python IDE which helps a lot while developing your skills:- 1 It provides best third party plugins like Spyder UnitTest, Spyder Reports. 2 Easy to download with Anaconda. 3 You can run code in chunks which helps to develop long program step by step and same goes for debugging. 4 Live IPython interaction which makes coding more intuitive as you can further take the output of your program and directly start writing code chunks in spyder ipython terminal. 5 You can do live graph changes. Spyder is best for Scientific application development or analysis of real time data but it lacks some of the below mentioned points :- 1 Auto complete : Spyder has this feature but compare to other IDE it is not that great even miss out to complete most basic functions. 2 Not light, sometime it takes too much time to start, but VSCode start faster than Spyder. Excellent libraries Ease with which coding can be done Excellent Debugging facility Variable explorer options For a beginner this is a platform that we can use without the fear of running into issues. Best part of Spyder IDE is it looks like Matlab, GUI is quite similar, It supports script run. It is free and I love the introspection for code completion. The inbuilt console is good. Just the fact that spyder was made in python and completely for python development makes it very reliable and secure. It has an easy installation procedure too.
