Cohesive, easy-to-integrate IP intelligence with powerful threat signals **Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Mike M. | Staff Threat Research Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** February 06, 2026 **What do you like best about Spur IP and Session Intelligence?** Spur provides a cohesive and comprehensive IP intelligence service that is simple to use, understand, parse, and integrate into your SOC workflows, security product, or even just monitoring your home network (I use it for all three). Depending on your needs, Spur will match it. Just need basic IP attributes? Want deep knowledge about proxies and tunnels? What to see what the connected clients are doing on the network? It's there. The API responses are easy to integrate into your workflows, and we had no issues implementing a system for 100k+ lookups-per-day (with some caching) that met all of our needs. Interestingly, searching for a bogon doesn't use up query quota, which was a nice surprise and only threw a _small_ spanner in our process. The amount of threat intelligence, infrastructure, client behaviors, and more is just so complete that we are _still_ underutilizing the data now. **What do you dislike about Spur IP and Session Intelligence?** My two main hurdles are that you don't know _when_ a particular attribute (or anything on a given IP address) changes, and you need to make sure you don't exhaust your quota on IPv6 addresses. We "handle" both with periodic polling/cache invalidation, and only sending IPv6/64 addresses. Flexible product lines that provide scalable solutions for small businesses to enterprise. Great team with low-pressure, knowledgeable sales team and deep technical expertise. All around a great experience from first contact to contract close. **What do you dislike about Spur IP and Session Intelligence?** Spur is still building out their intelligence suite. At the time of our evaluation their IP geo service was in beta so we didn't have a chance to evaluate them as a vendor but I would have loved to see an integrated product offering. **What problems is Spur IP and Session Intelligence solving and how is that benefiting you?** Spur helps us identify automated browser traffic using residential proxy servers that are able to bypass traditional IP and device based velocity controls. This has helped provide additional visibility into high scale attacks on our platform and network. ### 3. Threat actors frequently, and sometimes exclusively, use compromised devices with residential IP addresses to disguise their malicious traffic as if it is coming from a legitimate residential source. Spur is able to differentiate between genuine residential traffic and traffic that may be malicious. I've been in the cyber intelligence field for more than 10 years and during more of that time believed IP intelligence was almost entirely useless until I came to know Spur. **What do you dislike about Spur IP and Session Intelligence?** There isn't anything I do not like about Spur IP. As an advanced user proficient in creating my own API's it was straight forward. I would say new users or basic API knowledge could probably use example API code SDK for getting and using everything Spur offers you. **What problems is Spur IP and Session Intelligence solving and how is that benefiting you?** Institutions use Spur is a data enrichment tool. Spur gives insights into potential malicious IPs that otherwise look benign. When used to pinpoint specific proxy networks or for behavioral heuristics it can be a powerful tool. Especially in environment's where IP churn/rotation does not occur as frequently, such as commercial customers that use mostly corporate networks. With the Spur[.]us data, banks can enrich all login events, allowing for the creation of rules to detect and freeze online banking and commercial accounts threat actors are seeking to access in real time. Additionally, certain scammer IT applicants are known to use particular residential proxies, which Spur continually detects. Further, Spur enrichment can be integrated into tools such as Splunk and ThreatMetrix. ### 4. Each product serves a different use case, whether external (reducing fraud on our public-facing website forms) or internal (detection enrichment, IP address lookup during incidents).
