I use IP2Location’s IP list for a self-hosted GeoIP setup, primarily to detect data center, proxy, and VPN IPs—and in this area, it outperforms MaxMind. The granularity of proxy-related data is a major strength, especially for identifying public and commercial anonymizers that MaxMind sometimes misses.
