First, when tracking the location of devices i expected more. For example, at first it took us several weeks to work with support team on how to have the devices regularly check in so that we know at all time where the devices are at. so that if a device is lost we can at least know it's most recent last location. This helps us narrow down where the device may have been lost. The other thing that is missing is that there's no way to see all our device's location on a map at the same time so I can see a specific group of devices at once on a map. The other thing I didn't think worked well is to lock a device if it is lost. I assumed that we can lock the device and show a message. There is a way but there's limitations. The lockdown screen easily unlocks if the user swipes on the screen. The message is too small and displayed at the bottom of the screen. I would rather it be displayed up front and center of the screen so that it stands out. **What problems is SOTI MobiControl solving and how is that benefiting you?** helps us to easily deploy new devices, deploy updates to devices and also take remote of devices to help users etc. Also helps track devices. ### 3. Relatively poor integration with other cloud-based service providers like Okta. Lack of the authentication bridge option which would allow end-users to authenticate one time into the service without a need to re-authenticate into other 3rd party SAML-based auth mobile apps (Slack, Zoom, DocuSign, Zendesk, Box etc.) Sales team is very slow to respond to customers. It takes 3 or 4 calls to go over the same requirements. They sent the admin key to a separate entity. **What do you dislike about SOTI MobiControl?** After reviewing the software and hearing good things we decided to purchase the software. We agreed to pay over $27k to manage over 100 devices for 3 years. However, when I directed the sales person to make sure the master Admin credentials are send directly to me they instead send the credentials to a 3rd party, a person not even employed with the company. When I complained SOTI claimed not to understand the issue ...4 days later they have done NOTHING to remedy the situation. **Recommendations to others considering SOTI MobiControl:** Be very careful with the handoff, they seem to play loose with security. Current devices managed with SOTI MobiControl include Motorola TC55 EDA (Android), Toshiba and Surface Pro Tablet PCs (Windows 8.1), Apple iPad minis and legacy Windows 6.5 devices. The main use of the MDM is to lockdown devices, staging new devices and provision of upgrades, provide remote support to field workers to maximise productive time, monitor battery state and track/recover lost or stolen devices using location based services or remote device wipe if device unrecovered. This functionality is available over wi-fi or GSM/LTE. There are multiple system reports available or custom reports can be developed if supplied reports do not provide data analysis required e.g. automatic reporting on battery condition. An application store/catalogue is available to allow devices to be updated as required, new apps to be provisioned and maintain latest version. Document catalogue allows corporate documents and policies to be available as and when required (version controlled) **What do you dislike about SOTI MobiControl?** The inability of SOTI to populate the system data tables with the individual mobile telephone number although this may be an mobile service provider issue **Recommendations to others considering SOTI MobiControl:** Recommended due to functionality and ease of use **What problems is SOTI MobiControl solving and how is that benefiting you?** User remote support and enhancing productive time in the field along with push updates and lockdowns. I would be unable to manage all of them with such a small IT crew, without MobiControl. Package deployment and File Synching make managing many devices much easier. SOTI's customer service has been great to work with. Many of their people have exceeded my expectations during calls, and all of them have followed up to make sure things were still going smooth after calls. **What do you dislike about SOTI MobiControl?** I have to say that I do not have anything to say in the negative department. There are a few things that could be easier, like a browse function while looking for file paths inside rule creation. An often used file path option would be great. This is a really small thing though, as once the rules are created you don't have to change the pathing at all. **Recommendations to others considering SOTI MobiControl:** It definitely helped us to utilize a Vendor's help in setting up and initial deployment. It is much easier to learn a different system and tweak when things are going smoothly, than it is during a go live of multiple systems as we did. **What problems is SOTI MobiControl solving and how is that benefiting you?** The most important day to day problem that we solve with MobiControl is help desk remote controlling of devices. When users are having trouble we are able to take control, and fix problems, and even educate the users with real-time screen control. The package deployment has allowed me to completely automate CE handheld deployment, and redeployment. Technicians can wipe the handheld and reinstall all software from the field in the worst case scenario. This takes about 15 minutes depending upon cell coverage. File Synching allows us to make sure that all copies of necessary files are always on the devices. The only thing necessary is to drag the new or updated files into a folder on the server, and MobiControl copies them to a predetermined path on the device. ### 25. We could see exactly what the employee was having an issue with and able to perform updates remotely to. **What do you dislike about SOTI MobiControl?** We found it quite long-winded to configure and we had some issues with using this as we wanted to on iPads, but we found that that was due to Apples security features and is unable to be worked around. As a lot of our out of office employees were in villages, signal strength was a large issue. We also found that the GPS did not work most of the time. **Recommendations to others considering SOTI MobiControl:** I would definitely recommend this to people who need to monitor and support out of office employees in real time. We found it very useful in IT Support and the employees were happy as they did not have to travel into the office for device support. **What problems is SOTI MobiControl solving and how is that benefiting you?** So we can access out of office employees Windows-based PDAs and iPads so we can roughly track their location and monitor their usage and perform support if need be. There are so many it;s hard to pick a "best"...but if I had to pick I would say the web-based administration. **What do you dislike about SOTI MobiControl?** There are still some (though few) artifacts in the work flow that are from it's days as a installed software. **Recommendations to others considering SOTI MobiControl:** We opted for the on-premise version and now are reevaluating using the cloud hosted version. Consider that you might use for of MobiControl's features than you originally planned. **What problems is SOTI MobiControl solving and how is that benefiting you?** File syncing to Toughbooks in the field not joined to a Domain was our original reason for using MobiControl. now we use it for device recovery, remote program installation, and remote support. ### 28. The ability to remote in, manage applications, and create rules for our devices allows us to adequately manage our policies and enforce them throughout the organization. **What do you dislike about SOTI MobiControl?** Apple IOS has very little integration with SOTI, making it difficult to use the full potential of the project for the administration of iPhones and iPads. **Recommendations to others considering SOTI MobiControl:** If you are solely an IOS based outfit, I would recommend using another MDM. Apple does not open their API up to Soti, therefore integration with iPhones and iPads is minimal. **What problems is SOTI MobiControl solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are helping solve remote management issues, device allocations, and employee whereabouts. This allows us another line of security for our organization and allows us to actively manage all of the devices. ### 29. The solution's biggest differentiator is its tight integration with Android OEM partners which addresses Android fragmentation issues. **What do you dislike about SOTI MobiControl?** On-premises pricing consists of a perpetual license (lifetime license) plus yearly maintenance. Cloud based pricing is charged on a per device, per month basis. Licensing is also available on a per user basis. There should be more pricing options available to users and trial packages. **What problems is SOTI MobiControl solving and how is that benefiting you?** SOTI's self-service portal allowed us to locate devices, reset their passcodes, wipe their devices if they are lost or stolen and shop for administration approved profiles which was essential for our development. ### 30. MobiControl's folder structure and profile management allows us to do this with ease by only allowing certain packages to be pushed to certain device folders. ### 31. We heavily use SOTI for windows mobile devices and the scripting agents can do always everything via package deployments. The reporting is also a strong feature which give us in-depth insight over devices but also aggregates nicely over the entire installed base. Exception, alerts are promptly flagged up or, if you wish, instantly fixed via the device agent. One of the key features is the low-bandwidth handling. This allows remote support over less than 3G and is also optimized to use as little bandwidth as possible. **What do you dislike about SOTI MobiControl?** I tried location services (tracking devices in real time via GPS) a year ago and wasn't too impressed. This worked a bit like hit and miss where some devices, despite connections, didn't show up. **What problems is SOTI MobiControl solving and how is that benefiting you?** SOTI is one of the pioneers in MDM. We have been using MobiControl since 2009 to manage our WindowsMobile devices. The majority are field based over WWAN, a few are WLAN in the warehouse.
