## SlickEdit Reviews
  ### 1. Slickedit super customizable but very steep learning curve

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eduardo G. | Senior Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 25, 2020

**What do you like best about SlickEdit?**

Certain features can be very useful, like setting up multiple cursors to make a change in multiple spots. The tool is great for automating development tasks and simplifying file editing. There is also a great variety of macros that people have built that further enhances the editor. You can also build your own macros using the recording feature and then you can look at the code that is generated and from there you can further enhance it or polish the process you want to automate.

**What do you dislike about SlickEdit?**

Not a whole lot of support from companies that I have worked for. They don't see the value in it. Macros are built using the SlickC language which is counter-intuitive and doesn't have a lot of support compared to scripting languages like Python or Ruby. It can, therefore, be very difficult to create certain customizations/macros.

**Recommendations to others considering SlickEdit:**

Read Professional SlickEdit by John Hurst to get an idea on how this tool works.

**What problems is SlickEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mainly the editing of various files that aren't supported by a particular IDE. Using macros we can create automate a task that needs to be done to 100s of files. Also, There it provides great support for navigating the C++ codebase.

**What do you like best about SlickEdit?**

I liked the most customization feature which enables integration with any application on the fly. you can easily integrate with GitHub or another repository.

**What do you dislike about SlickEdit?**

its a bit costly, during the time of opensource developers having other options available

**What problems is SlickEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

used for coding

  ### 3. A suitable replacement for CodeWright.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alex O. | Embedded Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2021

**What do you like best about SlickEdit?**

Code navigation and
multilanguage support.

**What do you dislike about SlickEdit?**

Almost too much configurability available.

**What problems is SlickEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I hope between languages, and SlickEdit gives a seamless experience. It has pretty decent project management. It has really good code navigation. It has easy version control integration (Perforce, Git et al). It provides debug as well as edit tools.

  ### 4. SlickEdit is a text editor and at the forefront of the world of programming

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manuel M. | Analista de Sistemas, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2019

**What do you like best about SlickEdit?**

This text editor has excellent script functions. Another positive feature of SlickEdit is that it can be configured to integrate with MySQL. Also very important are customization options, which allow you to change from the theme of the interface to the colors that will be highlighted in the code syntax. In addition, the application is updated frequently, so you will always be at the forefront of the world of programming.

**What do you dislike about SlickEdit?**

I can't find negatives about SlickEdit. In my opinion, after each update the software surprises with increasingly powerful and easy-to-use features. This tool can be used for years without problems.

**Recommendations to others considering SlickEdit:**

Try and buy this text editor, to greatly improve your way of programming. SlickEdit is powerful and has two different versions, capable of satisfying your needs.

**What problems is SlickEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In the organization where I work I am responsible for designing and developing applications or web pages following the business processes that they are established through each client, so to maintain quality standards and quickly write lines of code I use SlickEdit, which has tools for highlighting syntax, integrations with databases, as well as connecting it directly to Git to load projects.

  ### 5. SlickEdit has been my go-to IDE for several years.

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Antonio L. | Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2019

**What do you like best about SlickEdit?**

The two things I like most about code editing are the ability to configure an entire project and how easy it is to search code and navigate to areas of interest - to be able to select records with precision. Ease of use. The startup time is also decent, so we don't have to waste time waiting for the editor to be fully loaded.

**What do you dislike about SlickEdit?**

The auto-completion can be improved, but it's okay - sometimes, though rarely, it closes abruptly, but it happens when I open a new file. One thing I don't like very much is when I put my machine in sleep mode and resume, Slickedit will ask for the license and if any file is open through network sharing and the network location is inaccessible, it would make me close them or keep them open, but show them as unsaved. It didn't adapt to my use, but it might work very well for others.

**Recommendations to others considering SlickEdit:**

Get used to the vision of the project as quickly as possible None I would just say try it out and see how useful it is It's a great text editor take your time to learn it and you will be greatly rewarded.

**What problems is SlickEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For me, Slickedit is the preferred editor for creating scripts and programming files with different width sizes and many different types of records. There have been several occasions where I have been able to search efficiently and find problems much more quickly than would otherwise be possible.

  ### 7. Good cross platform.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 22, 2018

**What do you like best about SlickEdit?**

That it has brief emulation. Though it is not perfect, it can be programmed.

**What do you dislike about SlickEdit?**

It is a bit of a pain to work with other tools to share the project/build management when you go between debugging and programming/editing.

**Recommendations to others considering SlickEdit:**

Get the trial and try it. It is always a pain to set up all the build/project at first, but that is try with most IDEs and editors.

**What problems is SlickEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having an editor that I like. I miss having Brief.

  ### 8. Great cross-platform source code/text editor

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jack C. | Staff Physical Design Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2017

**What do you like best about SlickEdit?**

It supports a lot of languages and the loading speed is decent even on large projects. I like the group support in the GUI to make manage project much easier. It supports over 90 different languages and over 9 platforms. Start up time is decent as well so we don't have to waste time waiting for the edit to fully loaded.

**What do you dislike about SlickEdit?**

It has a lot of features but the it requires some learning curve before a new user can start to use it. Sometimes when a new language is supported, it might be buggy and it takes a while to figure out the problem and contact SlickEdit to fix it because of the complexity. Setting up different version control tools to work with SlickEdit might be a little difficult depending on how the two tools working together. GUI might look a bit different when there is a major version update and it requires user to re-learn the GUI, which might be time consuming.

**Recommendations to others considering SlickEdit:**

SlickEdit is best suit for projects across multiple sites using different programming languages.

**What problems is SlickEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Slickedit helped us to improve efficiency on projects using different coding languages. It reduces communication overhead and also makes integration of different program functions much easier. Overall it would reduce the engineering and communication cost over a project.

  ### 9. slick indeed

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Wireless | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 15, 2017

**What do you like best about SlickEdit?**

Slickedit is lightweight and loads in a hurry. I like the ease of customization and how I can integrate it with other applications (version control). Another plus is the compare tool which can compare whole folders as well as individual files. I like the small memory footprint and that it does not slow down my laptop.

**What do you dislike about SlickEdit?**

One thing I don't like so much is when I put my machine on sleep and come back up, Slickedit will ask for the license and if any files were open through network share, and the network location was inaccessible, it would either make me close them or keep them open but show them as unsaved. I understand the reason but I wish there was a better solution.

**Recommendations to others considering SlickEdit:**

Get used to the project view as soon as possible. There might be a small learning curve there but it saves so much time later.

**What problems is SlickEdit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For me, Slickedit is the editor of choice for scripting and programming. It is able to automate a lot of indentation and helps with getting a project view where searching references and definitions is a cinch.

crashes. When I have too many files open it tends to get slow and crash. having to configure the app for each user can be very tedious.

**Recommendations to others considering SlickEdit:**

It's a great text editor take your time to learn it and you will be greatly rewarded.

**What do you dislike about SlickEdit?**

There isn't a whole lot to say about disliking SlickEdit. One feature I haven't explored too greatly is the source control integration. It hasn't fit my use, but it may work great for others.

**Recommendations to others considering SlickEdit:**

Take the time to customize your setup. Don't forget to make a workspace and a project - it will make life much easier. I have had colleagues who search in all files rather than finding references/definitions.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marc J. | General Lab Supervisor, Hospital & Health Care, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 02, 2016

**What do you like best about SlickEdit?**

First of all let me state, I'm just a novice programmer and work on a very part-time basis on some programming projects. With that said, I was able to try out the slickedit software a few months ago and very much pleased by it. Getting it installed and getting started overall was fairly straightforward. Tutorials for use were well explained and editing features very useful. Customizing the appearance of your programation code was a great tool.

**What do you dislike about SlickEdit?**

Step learning curve for the more advanced features (macros).
Auto complete could be improved but it is OK as is.
Configuring the project to compile, debug etc. is complicated; although very powerful,

I was working in mainly in C at the time.
I have used Slick Edit for java as well.
The greater benefit is speed, and if you have the patience to configure the macros, it can really be a pleasure to make some repetitive tasks.
