**What do you like best about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

As an engineer who has used StarCCM+ for several years, I can confidently say that it is a powerful and reliable software for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and multiphysics simulations. Here are some of its Pros.

Pros:
1) User-friendly interface: StarCCM+ provides a straightforward, intuitive user interface that enables users to quickly and easily construct complex simulations. Its drag-and-drop functionality makes creating complicated shapes, running simulations, and reviewing the outcomes simple.
2) Strong simulation abilities: StarCCM+ is capable of simulating a wide range of multiphysics phenomena, such as fluid flow, heat transfer, combustion, and electromagnetics. Its strong solver technology enables precise and trustworthy simulations.
3) Scalability: StarCCM+ is capable of handling simulations of any scale, from tiny models to enormous simulations of intricate systems.
4) Post-processing integration: StarCCM+ features robust post-processing facilities that enable users to see and examine simulation results. It also features a tool for customisable reporting that makes it simple to communicate outcomes with coworkers.

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

On the other hand, it does have its cons.

Cons:
1) High licence costs: StarCCM+ is among the most costly CFD programmes available. Small enterprises and individual users may be discouraged by its high cost.
2) Steep learning curve:StarCCM+ has a challenging learning curve, especially for novice users. To use it properly, you must have substantial training and expertise.
3) Inadequate documentation: StarCCM+'s documentation might occasionally be lacking, especially for more complex capabilities. Consumers might have to rely on outside sources, including internet discussion boards or technical help, to fix problems.

**What problems is Simcenter STAR-CCM+ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

StarCCM+ helps us solve various problems in multiphase with the help of its advanced hybrid-multiphase capabilities. Beyond this and the simulations involving regular fluid flows, StarCCM+ has also been used to simulate hypersonic flows over various geometries.

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

- Some customer-specific models are not fully mature yet (Overset, AMR, Multi-stepping VOF, contact line modeling), combining multiple modeling solutions often still results in issues
- Custom models developed and used by customers should be picked up and integrated / optimized into StarCCM+ faster
- Modeling capabilities for microfluidic applications still face big challenges (example: AMR and/or multistepping in VOF still has issues for surface tension dominated flows, contact line modeling still limited and lacking trust)
- Surface meshing not parallized yet
- Post-processing, especially heavy graphical rendering faces performance issues (slow, best practices not always clear, advanced rendering and screenplay are nice but often too much effort to efficiently use as a customer)

**What problems is Simcenter STAR-CCM+ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Analyzing complex fluid (gas and liquid) flow problems in ASML systems to propose solutions and improvements
- Generate data and insights which are difficult to aquire by experiment due to dimensions, complexity and experimental effort
- Quickly evaluate new design ideas, feasibility of concepts, compare different design iterations and find best solutions, fine-tune system specifications

**What do you like best about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

STAR-CCM+ uses the Finite element analysis or Finite volume method to calculate the transport of physical quantities on a discretized mesh. It also uses mesh-based and mesh-free discrete element methods (DEM) particle modeling approaches to simulate particle dynamics.

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

I think geometry modules were lacking which has to be integrated with this.

Finite element analysis or Finite volume method and its easy approach parallel stimulation.

**What do you like best about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

The basic simplicity of the grafical UI and pre-processing tools it has built-in. It is also relatively easy on the memory when simulating, and the speed is only beaten by some custom made codes, such as FINFLO.

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

The licensing system can be a little pain in the butt sometimes, and the upgrade pace makes it difficult to keep up, especially when using a cluster machine for the simulation.

**What problems is Simcenter STAR-CCM+ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Basic fluid flows (external and internal) and some thermal analysis, including porous media, rotating fans and two-phase flows. STAR-CCM+ helps us to provide feedback to our design team on how to improve ideas among our projects.

The easiness of surface preparation and the simulation performance in terms of turnaround time, even on local workstations or engineering laptops.
Physical modeling options are also great.

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

Contacts and interafce definitions are a bit tricky if the geometry is slightly updated.
Table or diagrams postprocessing could be improved to obtain ready to use graphics for reports.

Electro-thermal analysis including fluid flow: this helps optimizing the geometry, reducing final material costs and improving product performance. Front-loading virtual development reduces consistently testing efforts.

Siemens star ccm offers a wide range of simulation capabilities, it allows to model a complex engineering problems accurately and efficiently. The Interface is intuitive and easy to navigate.

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

While the software is user friendly, mastering all features can be challenging for new users. Star ccm is quite resource intensive software. Complex simulations may require high end hardware.

I use Star CCM+ to solve problems that are related mainly to heat exchangers. Mainly pressure drops and heat exchange between the domains calculations. Occasionaly fluid flow optimization.

The automated mesh along with robust post-processing interface makes the job easy even for the complicated simulations.

Regular software updates along with dedicated support engineer for each customer helps us to resolve the issues quickly

Though it is a good software but still it has some cons like, High license cost, lack of examples/case studies for renewable energy sector, un-availability of parallel surface mesh, etc…

- A single integrated environment allowing the user to tackle engineering problems from start (CAD creation) till the end (post-processing results). This greatly facilitates making modifications to the geometry/mesh/model setup

**What do you like best about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

The tree layout in the GUI is easy to use and it helps keeping things organised. From my limited experience the solver has been quite robust with few  unexpeted/non-self-explanatory errors. My experience from the support team is only positive and the user guide is often very helpful.

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

Some things I wish would be implemented  (as far as I know they don't exist now, please neglect this if they already are):
- When adding a comment to a node in the model tree, this could be displayed as a flag or similar all the way up to the "parent" or "base" node. Now the idea of comments is kinda meaningless since it's very easy to miss them if they are far down under certain subnodes.
- An option to stop at the end of the current time-step instead of the inner iteration in transient simulations. This should be an additional button next to the red STOP button in the GUI.
- When data sampling using monitors in transient simulations the start sampling trigger (iteration, time-step or whatever) could be controlled with a parameter, similar to global parameters.  If I have X numbers of monitors I want to start sample simultaneously, it would be much more convenient to control all these monitors with one single parameter. If I reuse the simulation file later for a different simulation/setup it is much faster to change the time-step for all monitors at once. I’ve had times where I have missed changing one of these monitors among maybe a total of 30, which ruined the simulation as the data sampling didn’t began or began too early for a crucial parameter. I know update events are available but they are too “advanced” for what I want to achieve.
- It is annoying that clicking the current scene window redirects you to that location in the model tree. This becomes annoying when you are working with something in the model tree and accidentally click in the scene. It would be nice if this could be controlled some way.
- An option to expand/collapse nodes by using the scroll wheel button instead of relying on the small icons to the left of nodes or the keyboard arrows.
- In XY plots, clicking (or hovering) on a series in the legend would highlight that series in the plot. Similar to hovering over a series in the plot window.
- For prism layer generation. An option to use prim layer total thickness and number of prism layers as “distribution mode”. Often I know what first layer thickness, stretching and total thickness I want and would like Star to decide the number of layers based on this. This way it would be easier to keep the prism layers and the match to bulk elements consistent when changing the size of the adjacent bulk mesh.
- Some default options seems strange. For example, why is 1st order temporal scheme selected as default for transient simulations when 2nd order is almost always recommended. Same thing with IDDES, when DDES is recommended for general problems in the user guide.
- The trimmed mesher is difficult to control and my experience is that trimmed cells are often created in regions where there is no apparent reason to trim them. We then compared the simulation results with experimental data. This simulation provided a valuable baseline for our team to tackle future fluid-structure interaction problems.

Postprocessing tools are exceptional, and the software offers a large variety of physics models and solvers.

The Lagrangian module needs consitent improvement in terms of scalability. In its current status (and for the type of usage I need) the parallel scaling is not sufficient.

They dont provide validation sim files for the new physics. Better to provide validation sample sim files for all the physics.

Iam solving flow, thermal and multiphase problems. It has benifitted a lot by saving testing time.

Star-ccm has a solution for most application we need and the support is always amazing. Responsive, highly skilled engineers who are always there to support and recommend best practices to improve our models

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

I find the mesher quite sensitive to geometry quality, and some manual geometry repair is almost always needed when the geometry is a bit more complex.
I'd also like to see a way of interruping a meshing process without loosing everything.

I use it mostly for CHT analysis.

**What do you like best about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

Top to bottom approach which includes 3D CAD modeller, solver and post processor. Change in geometry can be incorporated at any step without losing further data. Meshing is robust and the solver is stable w.r.t bad quality elements.

The in-built FEA solver is also state of the art and can include dynamic bodies.

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

It doesn't have a density solver and compressible Flows or natural convection flows must be solved with coupled solver which makes it slower. 
The lagrangian files also become very heavy and therefore difficult to post -process.

**What problems is Simcenter STAR-CCM+ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Problems in the field of Oil and Gas which includes horizontal separators, vertical distillation columns and calculating their efficiency and also magnitude of sloshing when on an FPSO.

Not possible to "turn regions off". Only on a continua level. It would be very powerful in large models if you could turn some regions off where the flow is already converged, and replace the interior(s) towards that region with velocity inlets (or other) with the  flow contidions that were present before the region was turned off

Surface meshing can have more controls 
The surface repair tools can be improved, as other tools has it 
Combustion models can be improved to add hot flow reactions

Ventilation flows, Interting gas simulations, Cabin thermal comfort simulations, these are the some examples. With Star, I am constantly working hard to achieve my goal which "simulation is the next realm, to shape the product"

**What do you like best about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

1. Star CMM+ is a great CFD aoftware because is offers the "all in one" enviroment from geometry preparation to results pro-´process. 
2. You can manage vast of parts assemblies with 3D CAD module, using Surface Wrapper operation to get high quality computational domains.
3. Many meshing algorithms are available for different CFD applications. Speacilly the polyhedral is the most versatile.
4 The scene-displayer architechture allows you to create amazing resulta presentations with videos, streamlines, cut-planes, etc.

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

Star CCM+ has a few disadvantages that other CFD software had overcome:
1. The dynamic clip feature that is available in VisMuckUp (Siemens owned) is not available in Star CCM. This may improve the cleaning ans preparion process of complex geometry assemblies.
2. In aeroacoustic it does not count with the "impedance" boundary condition which can improve models prediction, Comsol and Actran do.

1. Siemens does an outstanding job in software support and issues troubleshooting. It releases more than 3 versions per years.
2. Star CCM+ already implemented a couple of cutting edge aeroacoustic numerical models  which are helpul in the improving my prooduct.

**What do you like best about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

I have been using the Starccm+ for all the CFD projects for external flow and internal flow simulations. It has the best preprocessing and postprocessing capabilities embedded in one sim file. This has design exploration and topology optimization capabilities, which can be used in the early design phase and assist in reducing the cycle time. Every new release has some advanced features which help the user to work faster and deliver on time.

**What do you dislike about Simcenter STAR-CCM+?**

Needs more robust geometry / mesh export options from Starccm+ to other solvers.

The lack of chimera grids, the deformation library is pretty bad and the mesh generation tool is terrible compared to industry solutions. s

It solves simplified Navier Stokes equation by using turbulence modeling. It also automates the desing process and has optimalization tools. This way hundredths of simulations can be run as the software has great parallelization
