The best shelter and rescue management software with amazing support! **Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Jesse B. | Development Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2025 **What do you like best about Shelterluv?** I am a technologist writing his first software review in three decades online because Shelterluv the software is amazing and the people who build and support it are phenomenal! A free to use shelter management software (they charge $2 per adoption and make money from the interchange (processing fees) instead of charging a monthly fee), it offers every feature you’ll need as a shelter or foster based rescue. It also has integrations with other great solutions through the API. It’s used by some of the largest organizations for a reason! What makes them the absolute best though — on top of their great software — is the people who build and support the product. They are phenomenal. They are quick to respond, always have an answer, and are super friendly. It’s so hard to get good customer service from places these days and the Shelterluv support is a breath of fresh air. Since it’s pay by adoption and does not have any setup or ongoing monthly fees, there is no reason not to sign up for and try Shelterluv. I think of it as kind of being free. It only costs when our nonprofit dog rescue adopts out a dog and there is usually an adoption fee that easily covers it. **What do you dislike about Shelterluv?** I have not even loaded a dozen rescue dogs yet, but sometimes I wonder if the user experience could be better. I’m sometimes scratching my brain trying to remember where something is. Having said that, I do consider myself a new user and all software has a learning curve. In a months time I may say it all makes perfect sense. Kind of like when everything was so confusing when I switched from PC to Mac but then realized that Mac just makes sense. This may not end up being a long term dislike. **What problems is Shelterluv solving and how is that benefiting you?** Keeps track of a ton of data on our rescue dogs, their medical information, fosters, adopters, shelter and rescue partners, and so much more. It is the brain of our rescue operations. ### 2. Organized! **Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Sarah S. | Development Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2021 **What do you like best about Shelterluv?** As the development director at our organization I like that I can easily find an animal or person to get the information that I'm looking for when I'm writing appeal letters to donors! **What do you dislike about Shelterluv?** For my use as an administrator in our organization I don't have a lot to complain about... that said, I like having access to photographs, but I wish the pictures would enlarge to a bigger size. **What problems is Shelterluv solving and how is that benefiting you?** Shelterluv allows me to find information quickly when I'm writing a story to our donors, or potential donors, about one of our shelter pets. I find that the software allows those of us in the administration office to be able to stay on the same page as those who are working directly with the pets. ### 3. The display is organized in a sensible manner and you have the ability to filter your searches by May different categories. When you run reports the data is generated in a quick, organized manner. **What do you dislike about Shelterluv?** Shelterluv is very picky about spelling. If you search for an animal by name it will not always display the closest matches to what you’re looking for. There are occasional crashes. **Recommendations to others considering Shelterluv:** Shelterluv is great for animal rescuers. **What problems is Shelterluv solving and how is that benefiting you?** Shelterluv helps us adopt out animals to a great home. It is a beneficial program because it can run adoption and accounting reports to help keep track of all adoption related activities. ### 4. Starting with the transfer shelter, to diagnostics, an ability to leave notes for any updates, this system has multiple functionalities. **What do you dislike about Shelterluv?** It would be great if we were able to host full res images and assign dates or descriptions to them. Additionally, if we could have a dog/cat attribute instead of creating the same name attribute for different species. **Recommendations to others considering Shelterluv:** Coming up with a standard practice on what fields need to be filled out for each animal for ease of use and reporting after the fact. **What problems is Shelterluv solving and how is that benefiting you?** Keeping track of animals as they move through the system through medical, behavioral, and memo tabs.
