Long-form interview footage is the worst thing to log manually — you're scrubbing through an hour of two people talking to find the eight minutes that actually make the episode. Selects does that pass for me. Since the MCP update I can drive it straight from Claude, and that made a noticeable difference in both speed and quality of results. I point it at the footage folder, it scans and probes everything, and I get a draft back before I've opened a single bin. The biggest upgrade is that it can now actually see and analyse the video instead of only reading the transcript. I've tried transcript-only tools and they're fine for finding a quote, but useless for finding a moment. Now that Selects understands what's happening on screen, I can use it to cut highlight reels for events, where the good stuff is visual and nobody says anything that would show up in a transcript. Handoff to Premiere is clean too — I get something I can open and start cutting, not just a list of timecodes to go re-find myself. **What do you dislike about Selects?** My main request is support for stills as B-roll. A lot of my projects have a photo library alongside the video — event photography, product shots, headshots — and right now that material sits outside the process entirely. I have to bring photos in manually in Premiere afterwards, which breaks the flow of an otherwise automated assembly. Since Selects can already analyse video visually, extending that to images feels like a natural next step, and it would significantly help for event recaps and podcast episodes where we cover gaps with stills. That's the one gap I keep hitting. **What problems is Selects solving and how is that benefiting you?** I edit for a 24/7 streaming channel, so volume is constant and turnarounds are short — event highlights sometimes inside 24 hours. The bottleneck was never the creative edit, it was ingest and logging: sitting through hours of footage to find the small percentage that's usable. Selects collapses that stage. From the start, Selects gives three options to begin working, and once the analysis runs (which takes time but is well worth it), it works incredibly well. I love that within the app it uses Claude models (not only because I use Claude, but because Claude models are ideal for "reasoning" everything that involves narrative). I have noticed that it is better to operate everything from Selects (I have had some issues managing the app from Claude with the MCP (which for some reason I have to manually reconnect and sometimes Claude gets "stuck thinking infinitely" from Claude co-.work. I prefer to use Claude to ask it to help me think about narrative structure through the transcription from Selects (but I see that within Selects it also works well). I even tried in Selects to ask for suggestions on what type of stock images I should use for b-roll in an interview, and the suggestions on what to look for were quite coherent and less general and literal than those proposed in Claude co-work. I tried importing 23 hours of material (interviews with two cameras) for a documentary that I will start editing, and Selects did an excellent job transcribing, classifying the material, etc. The support is very good. When I have had doubts, not only have I had the chat with the software's help AI, but I have also managed to communicate with a human (in this case nani@cutback.video) who resolves my doubts in Spanish and with a very good attitude. I feel that with the use I give and this communication with support, I can contribute a bit to help implement improvement ideas. I like being able to integrate with Final Cut Pro and eventually with Davinci Resolve. I was about to migrate to Davinci Resolve for the transcription and text-based editing tools, but I don't like Resolve. Selects gives me the opportunity to continue in Final Cut X with a tool that also has the magnetic timeline, so I don't feel like I'm changing interfaces so abruptly. Regarding the price, I think the product is well worth it. I'm not clear if after the month the new credits are added to the previous balance or not (I haven't completed the first month yet), but I think it's well worth it. I also think it's excellent that they offer different languages available. **What do you dislike about Selects?** I would like to be able to import material and close the app without losing sync if I haven't analyzed it. The first time I imported 13 hours, it synced, and since I didn't have enough credits to run the analysis, I decided to continue the next day and exited the app. The next day the project didn't exist (it hadn't been saved) and I had to start over. The project should be saved from the moment the first clip is imported. There could be a power outage or something else, and time could be lost. It would be good to have some manual options like choosing to lower the preview quality when working with material directly from a camera that works in a very compressed codec so that the video doesn't freeze. I would like to have the option to save projects wherever I want. For organizational and efficiency reasons, Selects should give the option to delete clips from the project, not just from the timeline. When I add additional video clips that need to be analyzed, I have to click on each clip (one by one) for the analysis to run (when I select more than one, it doesn't give me the option to analyze the selection). I have an idea: it would be great to have a smartphone app that allows interaction with Selects on the computer (just like Claude now has co-work for mobile). So if I have to leave and want to make operational decisions that take time for the software but continue interacting, I can keep doing it remotely, especially responding to questions the system asks. Editors spend many hours sitting in front of the computer. In my case, I like to go for a walk or go to the gym, but if I could keep progressing during those activities by responding to Selects' questions so the software keeps working from my computer, it would be ideal! Another thing I notice is that the magnetic timeline lacks precision. Sometimes I want to move a clip a couple of frames to the left or right, and it pushes the videos to a track above or below because the clips don't fit. I think that's called "snap" in Final Cut. **What problems is Selects solving and how is that benefiting you?** Ugh! It saves me hours of work. It does the most boring part of the editing process. It's my editing assistant. In fact, it helps me want to edit because it does "the dirty work" and I can focus on doing the creative - narrative part. ### 3. I am a fairly light user, but it hasn't saved me hours, it has saved me weeks of my time, taking the toil out of complex editing tasks, and freeing me to be more creative with the end edits rather than trying to keep my eyes open! The captioning is brilliant, and really intelligent too! **What do you dislike about Selects?** At present - absolutely nothing! The team at Selects have been immediately at the end of an email request with any questions, they are actually real people that care/ I had a 1-2-1 session with Tom who is amazing, and was able to get answers to my questions rather than the usual running to a script.
