The tiered fetch model is the standout feature — plain requests by default, automatic escalation to anti-bot bypass or full JS rendering only when a page actually needs it. That's saved real cost without us tuning anything per site. Success rates stay solid even on sites we never specifically tested, and failures come back specific enough to actually fix.

The tier boundary isn't obvious upfront — a cheap fetch can come back looking fine (200, real HTML) while missing the content a page actually needed JS for, so figuring that out is on you, not the API. Since the JS-rendering tier costs noticeably more, getting it wrong means wasted spend or missing data. A few stubborn sites still get blocked occasionally even on the anti-bot tier.

**What do you like best about Scrapfly?**

The anti-bot bypass just works. Our target site runs Vercel's BotID/Kasada challenge, and a single asp=true&render_js=true request clears it reliably from any IP, no residential proxy reputation to manage and no browser-fingerprint tricks to maintain ourselves. That let us retire a self-hosted Mac that had become a single point of failure for our whole scraping pipeline and move everything onto plain GitHub-hosted runners. 

Billing is also easy to reason about: it's a flat per-request credit cost with a hard monthly cap rather than a metered bill, so we can budget it like a fixed subscription instead of worrying about a surprise invoice. Small things like wait_for_selector also gave us real control over rendering timing that we didn't have when we were driving Playwright ourselves.

**What do you dislike about Scrapfly?**

Billing for images is disproportionately expensive compared to plain page fetches. A rendered HTML page fetch costs about 30 credits, but fetching an image on the same domain runs roughly 225 credits, because Scrapfly bills every resource independently instead of capturing a whole rendered page in one pass the way a headless browser does. That forced us to model costs carefully and stagger our fetch schedule instead of just scraping everything as often as we'd like.

We've also hit real intermittent reliability issues on individual requests: occasional malformed-redirect responses where the returned URL's hostname doesn't match the path we requested, a "success" response that comes back with an empty body, and read-timeouts on image fetches even at a generous 60-second limit. None of these happen constantly, but they happen often enough that we had to build our own retry logic around them rather than trust a single request to complete cleanly. In at least one case, a failure response was also structured in a way that made a real error look like an unrelated decoding bug on our side, so we had to change our error handling just to see the actual cause.

Documentation around the free tier's credit allowance was also inconsistent. What we read as "credits never expire" didn't match what the account dashboard actually showed once we used them all up, which described a monthly renewal instead. We never got a fully clear answer on which was correct.

Before Scrapfly, our scraping pipeline depended on a self-hosted machine running headless Chromium to get past a site's anti-bot protection (Vercel's BotID/Kasada challenge). That created two compounding problems. First, the anti-bot layer itself was an ongoing arms race: a fresh, cookie-less browser session on every run eventually got that machine's IP reputation flagged and blocked outright, which we only fixed with persisted sessions, randomized startup delays and referer headers, none of which felt like a stable long-term fix. Second, every scraper we ran was competing for time on that one physical machine, so scheduled jobs that were supposed to run every 5 minutes were sometimes landing every 4-5 hours instead, and the whole pipeline had a single point of failure sitting in one person's home.

Scrapfly solves both at once. Its anti-bot handling clears the same challenge reliably without us managing IP reputation or browser fingerprints ourselves, and because it's just an API call, our scrapers moved onto ordinary elastic GitHub-hosted runners instead of one physical machine, which eliminated the contention and the single-point-of-failure risk entirely. The direct benefit is that a pipeline feeding real-time news and results into a live app with push notifications now runs unattended and predictably, instead of quietly degrading for a week before anyone notices a stale data feed. It also freed up engineering time that used to go into babysitting browser-automation workarounds, so that effort goes into the product instead of into fighting bot detection.

**What do you like best about Scrapfly?**

The unblocker is the real thing. No tuning, no fingerprint games — it just passes.

The js_scenario engine paired with XHR capture is excellent design. I need a couple of clicks per page to surface the data; Scrapfly runs the scenario and hands back every network call the page made, so you just read the site's own API responses as JSON instead of a rendered DOM. One request per page, no selectors to maintain.

Billing is transparent: every response carries its exact credit cost and failed requests aren't charged. The free tier was enough to validate the entire integration end to end before committing to a plan.

There's also an MCP server for AI, which is a nice touch — haven't needed it yet, but good to know it's there.

**What do you dislike about Scrapfly?**

Two small things.

Sessions stay locked for a few seconds after a request fails on Scrapfly's side (a 503 "no backend available"), so an immediate retry on the same session comes back as ERR::SESSION::CONCURRENT_ACCESS. Easy to work around — retry on a fresh session name — but it cost me a few minutes of head-scratching, and the docs could call it out.

And the unblocker's per-target cost isn't knowable up front. The docs say "30+ credits, scales with the target", which is honest, but you only learn your real number by running requests. A cost=true dry-run parameter exists, but an estimate on the dashboard per domain would be nicer.

Neither is a deal-breaker; the failed requests weren't billed either way.

It removed an entire category of work. Before Scrapfly I was maintaining browser automation, persistent profiles, proxy rotation and captcha handling just to get a page to load — and it still broke every few days. Now that whole layer is one API parameter, and my code is just parsing.

**What do you like best about Scrapfly?**

The anti-bot bypass is the whole reason I use it. I pull competitor offers from a large retail marketplace whose product pages sit behind Kasada — plain server requests just get rejected, and the cheaper scraping APIs I tested barely get through. With Scrapfly it was a single parameter (asp=true, plus render_js=true for their client-rendered pages) and I had clean HTML back on the first attempt.

Integration-wise there's almost nothing to it: one GET request that returns the finished page. No headless browsers to babysit, no proxy pool, no infrastructure of my own. I wired it into my Python backend in an afternoon and it's been running unattended on a small server since.

On cost, pay-per-success makes the maths honest — failed attempts don't bill, so the monthly spend actually matches the data I got.

The unexpected upside was what it enabled: because I can now read the full offer list (every seller, price and shipping cost), I built an automatic repricer on top. Reliability isn't quite 100%, and the failures are quiet. Every so often a request comes back with a 200 but the payload isn't the actual target page — an interstitial or a partial render. Nothing in the response makes that obvious, so my code initially treated those as "no data" and silently skipped listings. I had to add a retry loop (up to three attempts, then give up) before the results were dependable. A clearer signal that a returned page isn't a genuine target render would save everyone that guesswork.

I also had one call hang far longer than I expected instead of failing fast. Setting an explicit connect/read timeout on my side fixed it, but a documented or enforced upper bound would be better than each user discovering it the hard way.

On planning: it's hard to size a plan up front, because an ASP + JS-rendered call consumes noticeably more credits than a plain fetch. The free tier is gone after a few dozen of those, which is a short runway for a real evaluation. A simple "credits per call for this configuration" estimator would make choosing a tier much easier.

To improve reliability, consider implementing a more robust error detection mechanism that can identify when a returned page is not the intended target. Additionally, providing a documented timeout limit for requests could prevent unexpected delays.

For better planning, offering a clear estimator for credits consumed per call based on configuration would help users choose the appropriate plan more effectively.

Before, my pricing on the marketplace I sell on was effectively blind. To know what competitors charged I would have had to open each product page by hand, so in practice I didn't — prices sat untouched for weeks. I couldn't tell which listings were losing the buy box, and I had no way to automate it: my server simply couldn't read those pages because of the anti-bot protection.

Scrapfly solved exactly that one blocking piece. Now a job runs every three hours, fetches the full offer list for each active listing — every seller with their item price and shipping cost — and repositions my price automatically: undercut the cheapest competitor by one cent, match the sellers I don't want to undercut, never go below the floor I set per product.

Two concrete results. First, it surfaced listings priced far under the market: one sat at €19.99 while the cheapest competitor's total was €28.53, so I could raise it and still be the cheapest offer. The shipping detail matters more than I expected: a rival with a lower item price but paid shipping is often the more expensive total offer. You only see that with the complete offer list. Time spent on price checks went from "would take an hour per round" to zero, and the margin recovered on a single listing covered the monthly plan several times over.

I use Scrapfly for scraping and crawling real estate listings, their prices, details and so on. It bypasses DataDome and runs efficient and large data scrapes that common proxies or scripts cannot perform. I like its reasonable price compared to competitors, and the speed of logging in and starting almost instantly. So far I've had no issues or interruptions. It was very easy to set up as a newcomer. It took around 2 minutes, and the API key was right there. I pair it with NodeMaven, Claude Code, and DigitalOcean.

I use Scrapfly for a project that needs to scrape a site protected by Akamai and DataDome, which is not an easy target. Their anti scraping protection plus JS rendering got me past it when a few other approaches did not. Switching from the datacenter proxy pool to residential made a real difference too, I was getting hit with a lot of 429s on datacenter, and residential works great, almost no failures since I switched.

When a request fails, figuring out why took more digging than I would have liked at first, the error messages were not always specific to what actually went wrong. I appreciate that it gets around the bot protection and their domed systems very easily, and so far, I haven't had any failed requests. It's quite efficient and straightforward to use. The screenshot API is very good for gathering evidence, and the monitoring is stable. The service is very efficient, quite affordable, and economic. It's also the safest and most reliable one I've used yet. No requests are wasted, and it's efficient overall. The initial setup was absolutely easy, just copy the API and paste, with no hassle at all.
