From email, text, and phone calls, it's our one-stop-shop for communicating with families. We use it both for inclement weather and for general District communication, as well as school-level messages from the principals. I like that you can build out customized and branded templates based on location, so we can have different headers for each school. Having personalization builds trust and increases open rates. The new Newsletter tool adds some much needed professional design tools as well. **What do you dislike about SchoolMessenger School Notification?** There isn't too much to dislike. I will say that support isn't the most responsive that I've seen. Direct syncing allows us always to have the most accurate student contact data necessary for making mass phone calls and emails for general and emergency use purposes. **What do you dislike about SchoolMessenger School Notification?** We pre-record many of our mass phone calls in a third-party application. The third-party applications allow us to adjust for clarity and length. Occasionally, these messages exceed file size limits to upload to SchoolMessenger and require added time to trim and compress the files to be usable on the mass phone call. **What problems is SchoolMessenger School Notification solving and how is that benefiting you?** One of the biggest things we have solved with SchoolMessenger is sending secure documents to individual students through their Secure Document Delivery feature. The app is simple to download and navigate which is so important. This reduces the amount of questions that come up which gives teachers one less thing to worry about. **What do you dislike about SchoolMessenger School Notification?** Although user friendly, this app lacks in features. There is no way for a patent to initiate a private chat with a teacher. Because of this, the teacher must private message each parent in order to initiate that with each which is very time consuming. It's also irritating to not have search tool and have to scroll way back to see old messages. **Recommendations to others considering SchoolMessenger School Notification:** This app is very secure so that is the biggest reason we switched to it. If using this app do make sure to have the teachers initiate private messaging with each parent right away. However, over the years, they have worked on updating the system. It looks better, but to a new user, it is a bit difficult to maneuver. We had a contract with them for 11 years. It has been used successfully by other large school districts. **What do you dislike about SchoolMessenger School Notification?** poor customer service, data integration, data breaches **Recommendations to others considering SchoolMessenger School Notification:** Look at what the product can offer and see if it stands up to competitors. Ask other districts about their experiences. Most importantly, really do your homework on the customer service offered by SchoolMessenger. I found it to be almost non-existent until I googled the CEO and CFO, figured out their email addresses, and emailed them. Also look closely at their contract. Despite a data breach, you have to look at the cost of litigation as well. Just do your homework well. It's great to be able to send merged documents this way, but I wish I could create templates myself rather than wait for someone in support to do so on my behalf. I also don't like that I can't see a preview of the merged document emails as our parents will see them prior to sending. Very intuitive, and easy to send messages effectively. Includes detailed reports and account of all messaging attempts. Also, very easy to simultaneously send messages in a second language and send push notifications to websites and social media. When communicating during a crisis, time is a critical factor. I wish there were a way to streamline the messaging during a crisis. We were able to extract any field out of our SIS that we wanted to be able to communicate by (Bus Number, EL status, etc). **What do you dislike about SchoolMessenger School Notification?** We had to do a lot of custom scripts to pull the information from our Student Information System as there was no API available for the SIS we were using (Chalkable). I am sure they have APIs available for other Student Information Systems, but we really had to work to get the data in. Also, in the end because we were so large, we needed a dedicated support person we could contact, and while they told us they would give us one, in the end we did not wind up with a single source contact. **Recommendations to others considering SchoolMessenger School Notification:** Make sure they can do everything you need and get a written contract for what their support will be. It's a great way to send mass emails, texts, or phone messages, and there is good support from their customer service team. **What do you dislike about SchoolMessenger School Notification?** There is nothing to say that we particularly dislike, but some training items will take a bit longer to work through, like manually loading a user vs. PowerSchool rolling them over. They roll the calls out in blocks in order to not overload the system, but they will guarantee all calls are out within a set amount of time. The reporting is excellent. You can find out how many people never answered, hung up, listened to part of the message, or listened to the entire message. It numbers are busy, it will call them back. We have not experienced any outages. We place roughly 100 calls a year using this system from the admin level. We place thousands of calls a month when tied into the lunch money balance system to notify families of low balances. **What do you dislike about SchoolMessenger School Notification?** It's a bit expensive. It does a great job of being usable for even the less tech savvy folks in my district. The admin side is not too difficult to deal with, but finding the path to block numbers or even unblock them is clunky. It is not user friendly in that regard.
