While it offers flexibility in how one would account for takeoff data, it does not offer many visual tools to assist in the field. It seems more intended for office use. **What problems is Sage Estimating solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sage Estimating allows for purchasing duties to be fulfilled and executed. It will connect your takeoff data to vendor pricing and information and allow for purchase orders to be generated. ### 3. Perfect for the technologically inclined estimators that want to put out quality work that is extremely accurate. **What do you dislike about Sage Estimating?** The learning curve is a little steep for some users that are a little less technologically inclined. Especially if they have been working with paper and pencils for years. **Recommendations to others considering Sage Estimating:** As long as users are eager to learn the product it should go smoothly. **What problems is Sage Estimating solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sage estimating has allowed users to have computerized estimates that eliminate the human error that comes with hand written estimates. Plus improving customer service because adjustments don't have to be made when a person makes an error. ### 4. It has it's own database that can be helpful at times and includes a lot of items that can be documented accurately for each project. **What do you dislike about Sage Estimating?** Sage does not have a system for actually doing the quantity takeoffs, so my company uses other PDF readers to count the items, then transfers the information into Sage. If you can imagine, this is a long process and can be fixed by incorporating a system like OST or Bluebeam into the program. It also doesn't look visually appealing, compared to other programs it is lacking a few years. The program visually doesn't have much variation for tracking quantities. Everything is simply black and white with some teal highlighting. This can be changed but it is a hassle that Sage should work on. **Recommendations to others considering Sage Estimating:** It definitely get's the job done, but you have to be willing to have multiple programs in addition open to help you get that success. It takes time to get used to the program and its quirks, but once you have it, it is very effective. **What problems is Sage Estimating solving and how is that benefiting you?** As noted above, since we cannot use Sage as a quantity take-off program, we have to incorporate other programs which after a while of getting used to, works pretty efficiently. The benefits of Sage is the knowledge and database of prices of all kinds of items in the construction industry. It is very lenient with units of measurement that you're using. ### 5. I love the ability to store the historical data and I am able to draw the information to include in my current estimates. **What do you dislike about Sage Estimating?** It takes too much time to set up a project. I felt the interface is very clunky and could use some improvement to stream line the project set up. I have to create reports to get the data I need. The template reports are too bulky and don't provide the narrow results that I need. **Recommendations to others considering Sage Estimating:** It is a good software to use when providing a bid to a client. It is very helpful if you are using the accounting feature from Sage, as it interfaces with the estimating module. **What problems is Sage Estimating solving and how is that benefiting you?** The software allowed me to quickly provide estimates for bidding purposes. Database can be tailored to suit the needs of your specific niche or core work type. **What do you dislike about Sage Estimating?** We are a relatively small company with an emphasis on renovations and remodels. In our model we don't use a vast majority of the horsepower behind Sage 300. So...I guess this isn't a knock on the software so much as it's a statement about it's usefulness in a given application. My advice to a company looking at estimating software would be to assure that Sage is congruent with your need....because they'll sell it to you whether it is or not. **What problems is Sage Estimating solving and how is that benefiting you?** The ability to run job cost reports showing actual costs versus estimated costs is a great tool for staying on budget. ### 9. To implement this product to your corporation successfully you will experience some pain. It's not quite like the stuff I've used in the past. **Recommendations to others considering Sage Estimating:** If you send out lots of estimates to different clients, I recommend this program.
