## Retrospect Reviews
  ### 1. Retrospect: Review software development and conversations in a project/task structure

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dave B. | Senior Manager of Documentation, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 10, 2022

**What do you like best about Retrospect?**

Easy to use, great for reviews of software development after completing a sprint planning session. The Project Management functions are fantastic and allow us to skip yet another tool.

**What do you dislike about Retrospect?**

Still play with features, great so far from everything we've tried

**What problems is Retrospect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Simplifying the ability to share feedback by establishing cards that we can arrange into sections and templates for future use

  ### 2. Worst experience I ever had with a software

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lucas M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2020

**What do you like best about Retrospect?**

It gives a lot of cool features that do not work or fails after a while.

**What do you dislike about Retrospect?**

It will always fail if you try connecting in Windows Network trough the app.
The catalog files keep getting corrupted by itself. You have to constantly repair them.
The app freezes all the time even with a formatted high-end computer that only has Retrospect installed.
When you try to actually restore a file it fails 80% of the time, either it gives an corrupted file back or the files just disappear from the backup set.
The app will ask for credentials for accessing the remote network and this pop-up screen will keep popping up forever until you close the application through Windows task manager.
We've paid $3.000,00 to upgrade to version 16 expecting a few problems to be solved and ended up with more problems than the old version.

**What problems is Retrospect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A simple backup system that seems impossible to be done with Retrospect. Stay away from this hell of an app.

  ### 3. An honest review after more than a decade of use commercial and countless emergency restores

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David B. | IT Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2019

**What do you like best about Retrospect?**

Efficient, fast and works! Retrospect logs everything so you can see at a glance what's happening and what has been completed. I've used other solutions but always came back to Retrospect after the very pretty alternatives failed to restore and left us in a mess. Retrospect has always done its job and never failed and thats vertually unheard of in 12 years of software use

**What do you dislike about Retrospect?**

I appreciate the user interface does take a little getting to know, but only because it's very capable and therefore a little more complex. I think this has got a lot simpler in the latest version but I'm so familiar with it now I'm not the best person to ask!

**Recommendations to others considering Retrospect:**

This might not be the cheapest solution but in my opinion its the best. The reason I'm leaving this review is because I have used Retrospect for long enough to say it's reliable. More importantly reliable at restoring 1+ year old data from old backup sets, and thats only something you find out years later!

**What problems is Retrospect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've used a few different software solutions to backup our company IT systems with multiple workstation and the biggest issue with other solutions has been their consistant ability to restore. The only reason we create backups is in the (very real) possibility someone deletes an entire project folder or saves a file after removing a chunk of work. Retrospect has allowed us to easily grab one file or folder from the progressive backup, back in time until I find the copy before the accident happened. In the 12 years I've used this software I can safely say it's restored 100% of the time and thats why I have continued to use it.

  ### 4. Disaster recovery does not work for Windows 10

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matthias V. | System Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2019

**What do you like best about Retrospect?**

Multiple platform support available.

**What do you dislike about Retrospect?**

Disaster recovery does not work for Windows 10. After restoring a Windows startup drive (C) the system stops with a “critical process has died” message. The log shows multiple errors during backup. Support is only available with an ASM. This turns the product into a des facto subscription model.

**Recommendations to others considering Retrospect:**

If you need it for Windows 10 disaster recovery you may want to look at other products.

**What problems is Retrospect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Backup.

  ### 5. Retrospect in my point of view

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Retrospect?**

Backup and Restoration of regular file types

**What do you dislike about Retrospect?**

There are no restore options for individual email from a particular mailbox, i'm not sure the latest version has such facility

**What problems is Retrospect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Day to day requests from end users regarding file restoration, which is quick and easy task

  ### 6. Good basic product for SMB backup -- especially if cross-platform

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ken L. | Management Director, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 17, 2019

**What do you like best about Retrospect?**

Retrospect does what it claims to do -- reliable, fast backups without too much complexity. If you need to backup multiple machines in a SMB environment retrospect will do it. Handles "time machine"-like functionality of being able to restore to a particular point in time. Able to backup to an offsite facility (in addition to cloud backup). Can backup to tape or tape library.

**What do you dislike about Retrospect?**

Somewhat non-intuitive for setup. Cloud backup could be smarter, but does work. Reporting could be a little easier to used.

**Recommendations to others considering Retrospect:**

Of all the SMB backup products I've looked at or used, this is a pretty good balance between features and ease of use. The pricing is reasonable compared to enterprise backup software. If you have less than 100 machines that you need to backup this is a good choice., and certainly if you have between 5 to 10 it's an excellent choice. If you need a solution that works reliably with Macs I'd also recommend this.

**What problems is Retrospect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use retrospect to back up a mixed environment of Windows desktop and servers, Mac desktops, Linux servers. Need ability for permanent archive of all files, so use LTO tape. Our backup machine isn't added as a share, so I feel there is additional security if we are hit with something like crypto virus.

  ### 7. Centrally manageable software.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sushil B. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 18, 2018

**What do you like best about Retrospect?**

I like that retrospect taking backup on scheduled time and has kept current with using the latest LTO technology and server update compatibility.

**What do you dislike about Retrospect?**

I dislike the current UI and user experience

**What problems is Retrospect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This product is helping us actively back up data. Ultimately, this is saving our company money and allowing longer-lasting (and reliable) data backups.

  ### 8. Fantastic software with vast features

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rahul D. | Channel Sales Manager, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2018

**What do you like best about Retrospect?**

Retrospect selectors for backing up data and restoring data , Proactive AI , Grooming .

**What do you dislike about Retrospect?**

manual client installation on every workstation and adding clients of VLAN's manually in Retrospect client. Adding client manually lead to miss clients. feature like templates require to configure backups fastly. Webconsole also missed and deduplication working or not from where we can check. If possible share deduplication on dashboard

**What problems is Retrospect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Data protection from ransomeware and other volnerabilities.

  ### 9. Needs Overhaul

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Media Production | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 31, 2018

**What do you like best about Retrospect?**

I like that Retrospect has kept current with using the latest LTO technology and server update compatibility. This has helped make Retrospect a reliable and somewhat stable solution.

**What do you dislike about Retrospect?**

I dislike the current UI and user experience. It is a very cumbersome software that is not intuitive to ensuring backup data is complete. This may be a great software for someone who's full time job is to read manuals and know how this (and others like it) work. I find myself saying "What does this do?" and looking for answers on "how tos".

**Recommendations to others considering Retrospect:**

Shop around for the best fit for your company. Make sure to run a trial to make sure this is the right product for you. It's important to have easy-to-use software to save time and money. This software requires someone's full attention in reading manuals and understanding "what this does".

**What problems is Retrospect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This product is helping us actively back up data to lesser-expensive and longer lasting LTO tapes, rather than faulty HDDs and servers. Ultimately, this is saving our company money and allowing longer-lasting (and reliable) data backups.

  ### 10. Enterprise level backup

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gary B. | Information Technology Lead, Printing, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2016

**What do you like best about Retrospect?**

It's sturdy, it's straightforward to set up (but does have a great time cost to do so.) it has a multitude of different functions and once set up can be set to send emails, reports and full lists.

**What do you dislike about Retrospect?**

It's a lot of admin time to set up at first. It takes a lot of fine tuning as it makes no assumptions. This can be good in certain circumstances but I feel like we may have been too small as a company to really take advantage of it's full suite of options

**Recommendations to others considering Retrospect:**

Have a dedicated person team or team to set this up in at the implementation stage. There's a lot of tiny settings that can lead to bad results. With trial and error though this can be a great product to use.

**What problems is Retrospect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We wanted a backup and archiving solution in one. This took a full server of its own along with several terrabytes of hard disk space for nearline backup. It's been rock solid for us as a system. We haven't had a perfect experience but overall its been very positive.

  ### 11. Retrospect backups seem perfect

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bryan V. | Research Engineer, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2016

**What do you like best about Retrospect?**

It's seamless and transparent. It just backs up at night and I never know. The one time I needed to use a backup that worked flawlessly, too.

**What do you dislike about Retrospect?**

I can't think of anything I don't like about it.

**Recommendations to others considering Retrospect:**

I highly recommend Retrospect.

**What problems is Retrospect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All our PC data is safely backed up remotely giving us security.

  ### 12. Do not use this product !!

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Josh D. | Post Production Assistant / IT, Motion Pictures and Film, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2016

**What do you like best about Retrospect?**

Nothing absolutely nothing I like about this software

**What do you dislike about Retrospect?**

Is not intuitive, several times I try to do a restore and nothing works, does not tell me what the problem is.
have to hunt for info regarding my tape library, Info that should be easily displayed. So save yourself the headache and find a different software to do LTOs

**Recommendations to others considering Retrospect:**

Do not use it, Trust me It is a nightmare.

**What problems is Retrospect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm wasting money using this software, It cost me more to troubleshoot than it does to operate it.
