With a click, it converts all elements of the QXP layout, fonts, colours, images, etc and creates a new .INDD document. ## Q2ID Reviews ### 1. Text wraps get applied to everything sometimes. But in the end I have a fully functional InDesign document so it's all good. **Recommendations to others considering Q2ID:** I would highly recommend this product if you are receiving files from outside your organization. It makes life so much easier! **What problems is Q2ID solving and how is that benefiting you?** Opening Quark documents with Adobe InDesign so I don't have to purchase it. We don't get many Quark documents, but the small price tag is well worth it. It's so much better than having to re-layout an entire job. ### 2. I can open Quark files in Indesign with all the formatting and style sheets intact simply by clicking on open doc. **What do you dislike about Q2ID?** That it's gone to a subscription service rather than a purchased app. **Recommendations to others considering Q2ID:** If you want to convert Quark files to Indesign, this is the way to do it. **What problems is Q2ID solving and how is that benefiting you?** All our early work was done in Quark Express. I enjoyed it but InDesign is the industry standard now and others in my team are unable to open and use Quark. Using Q2ID allows us to open Quark files in Indesign. All formatting is kept intact and I can simply updated the style sheets to bring documents up to date. A godsend. ### 3. I'm sure the new Quark is fine, but we use Indesign for this sort of work. Now you can pop that publication open and groove with Indesign seamlessly, in most instances. **What do you dislike about Q2ID?** I have noticed the occasional juxtaposition of items in the layout. Every now and then there will be a different ordering of layers. For instance, sometimes an object in the background will come all the way to the front, but this is usually easily remedied by sending it to the back again. I do wish there was a batch processing function that works similarly to how Photoshop can take a designated group of files and export a batch of one type of file to another type. **Recommendations to others considering Q2ID:** If you have loads of old Quark files that are inaccessible, this is your solution. **What problems is Q2ID solving and how is that benefiting you?** I work in the creative services department at a museum where most all of the original artifact labels and wall graphics were created close to 20 years ago in Quark XPress. There were hundreds of files that would have required us to re-build in Indesign, should we have chosen to go that route, which isn't practical at all. Q2ID allows me to go back and re-purpose the old files for a new life in Indesign where they are accessible and editable. This saves us time and money. ### 4. It almost makes you wonder if it is really working. But, it truly is! The price is outstanding, as well as Markzware's customer support and technical team. **What do you dislike about Q2ID?** Sometimes it can't translate EXACTLY how my Quark doc flowed, due to preferences I had created originally. **Recommendations to others considering Q2ID:** Since the publishing world has mostly turned to InDesign, I was forced to switch from Quark 7 yrs ago. Hundreds of files I created were in Quark. Now that I know InDesign really well, sometimes its easier to work with those files in InDesign and not in Quark. Its nice to have options. **What problems is Q2ID solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sometimes old Quark files just won't open, but Q2ID has no problem opening them. The plugin has made my job quite a lot easier. ### 5. You will never regret your purchase and worth every cent. **What problems is Q2ID solving and how is that benefiting you?** When we changed over to InDesign, entire magazines needed to switch over. I envisioned hours of painstaking and time-consuming detailed transfers. The files change in seconds and are fully editable for changes. Thanks, Markzware! ### 6. Oftentimes, I can reopen the file and it comes out correctly but there have been a few times when it took more than a couple of tries. **What problems is Q2ID solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have one client who has resisted learning InDesign—I and others have offered to train her but while she's a very good art director, she's perfectly happy knowing only Quark (and Photoshop.. not Illustrator, though). ### 7. Primarily I found cleanup needed on rule weights in tables, and some issues with drop shadows but on the whole the conversion was very good. **Recommendations to others considering Q2ID:** Just do it! The price is negligible compared to the time saved. **What problems is Q2ID solving and how is that benefiting you?** I used Q2ID to help a client convert a 500 page catalog that they had been doing for years over to InDesign. ### 8. The conversion to Indesign may highlight any idiosyncracies in the original Quark document if the Quark doc. was styled with 'over-rides' rather than clean style sheets. **What problems is Q2ID solving and how is that benefiting you?** Conversion of archive files from Quark now that the (publishing) industry standard is Indesign. Conversion of Quark files which describe a series of complex house styles across many document sizes to Indesign to enable ongoing use. ### 9. Files convert to ID with all major aspects--like doc size, style sheets, colors, fonts, and graphic elements--intact! **What do you dislike about Q2ID?** Not perfectly seamless, yet: minor quirks like curved text lines that are invisible in Quark translate to white strokes in InDesign, for instance. **What problems is Q2ID solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our many legacy Quark files are being easily and quickly converted to Indesign files. ### 11.
