Whether you are using it as your source of truth for brand content, as a drive wheel in your marketing stack, or to manage content from teams throughout a broad and deep enterprise, you can achieve your goals with Orange DAM. For the user, it has powerful search, an intuitive interface that make finding and downloading assets a breeze. Users can access curated collections, search and filter with ease, and share content based on permissions set for users and groups or users. Speaking of permissions. . . . They are finely grained and nuanced so you can manage folders of content using recursive properties -- or you can allow individual users access to specific assets for a specific date range and restricted options for downloading. If you have a new or highly specialized work flow, need to integrate with new applications and build an AI tagging process to improve time-to-market, reach out to their customer support team and discuss it. Your customer success rep will help you make it work. And they have a detailed training program that will help you learn the ins and outs of Orange DAM. As an administrator, you really need to complete their certification process to understand the full scope of what Orange DAM can do, and you will learn multiple strategies of achieving goals. It has a user-friendly interface and many capabilities that make organizing and retrieving assets quick and efficient. This is saving a lot of time for users. The system is scalable, and by using AWS in conjunction with Cortex, it ensures we can manage our growing collections. We can start projects in the DAM for Adobe and edit on our computer. When we save it in Adobe, it updates back into the DAM. Our creative team uses the DAM daily. We create a lot of short-form video digital advertising content. We also have created custom views for our clients to search and download all their approved creative assets. Once you learn all the tools available, it is easier to use. Luckily the permissions and views for our clients are simplified, and they find the software to be user-friendly. The Orange Logic team is very responsive with their ticketing system "Link" when questions are submitted to support. They let you know if it is an easy fix or has to go to development. I like that I can upload screen recordings of my questions, and they also share screen recordings with us to help troubleshoot. We also had weekly calls during implementation to ask questions and train. The software updates around 3 times a year and always has nice enhancements with its updates. **What do you dislike about Orange Logic?** The implementation was longer than I thought it would be. The software is very robust and can do so much that it does take time to train. It isn't as intuitive as other DAMs for easy adoption. The cost is higher than other providers. **What problems is Orange Logic solving and how is that benefiting you?** Within the first year, we are storing over 14k in assets and have an unlimited number of users. It helps us to neatly store and search all assets while streamlining our production workflow. We have created custom metadata fields and visibility classes to help organize our content and work process. We researched DAMS for over 6 months and found that other DAMs were built for documents and photos, but Orange Logic is the best with video and Adobe native files and features had some nice offerings. We like how we can tag, auto caption, and identify talent, and store contract asset rights with alerts when rights are close to expiring. Orange Logic also helps create custom integrations. Their Adobe Integrations are decent to other DAMs, and have continually been updating them. Orange Logic also has options for establishing workflow triggers and forms, but at an additional cost for help implementing it. There are many options and features beyond what we are currently utilizing, but the price for those is high. ### 4. For example, if the browser window is minimized to too small a size, the search bar almost disappears entirely and is difficult to locate. Additionally, for some users who are less tech-savvy, there is a learning curve involved with using Orange DAM that may lead to some frustration and decrease in frequency or consistency of use. We hired a fulltime staff member to oversee and implement. The ongoing support and development has been the best aspect – Issues with unsupported file types were resolved and integrated in an orderly fashion. The accessibility has also resulted in a scope creep for us – our initial definition of assets we wanted to include increased, as we saw the value for managing other categories of digital assets. **What do you dislike about Orange Logic?** Complexity. It is inevitable that a tool that has extensive capabilities and configurability and security levels will have a learning curve. **What problems is Orange Logic solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our group spent a long time thinking about the digital future for our institution, and how to handle access to information for staff and public, and considerations for digital preservation. The low hanging fruit was image information and retrieval. EXIF data was beyond the reach of most staff, and images were siloed in too many places, and eventually lost with hardware change or failure. Tools that allow us to bulk upload and tag digital assets decrease staff time required to perform this essential function. We continue to find additional areas where we can apply Orange DAM. We needed a system that could fulfill the diverse needs of over a dozen different teams, with several external data sources requiring integration, and Orange DAM was the only one that came close. The team over at OrangeLogic were very attentive and supportive throughout our implementation, which was somewhat extended since this was our first DAM and there was a lot to figure out. Since then we continue to have a close relationship with our account manager, which we value. They frequently push new versions and features so you know the technology is not standing still. **What do you dislike about Orange Logic?** With great flexibility comes great complexity and great responsibility! The system can be a bit daunting for new users in particular, which is exacerbated for us since our staff are for the most part not already DAM-literate. It can also be hard for a smaller org to keep up with the new features and updates. Sometimes there is an extra cost required for different add-ons or modules, or for their staff to configure existing functionality, and this is after they were the most expensive of the options we considered. We use Orange DAM for workflows in our imaging lab, marketing team, content creation teams, internal operations, fundraising and visitor services operations. The system offers extensive and complex permission controls: including asset, user group, folder permissions and asset visibility classes. While powerful, these features does require significant effor to set up your system to meet your organization's need. Metadata field must be set up for each asset type (e.g., images, videos, documents), this feature could benefit with a global permission option. Additionally, the asset auto start/end expiration date features could use improvements. Everyday use is very straightforward in terms of uploading, cataloguing, and finding assets. **What do you dislike about Orange Logic?** We have found more advanced features sometimes confusing and buggy - though this is in part because of OL's continuing development of new features. We've had mixed experiences with support - sometimes very helpful, sometimes very stalled. The original help center was very confusing and hard to search, though OL seems to be currently working on and making available new training tools. I particularly like using the already familiar library system for organising our video and image assets. Ingesting new work is quick and easy and there are a ton of features built in to manage the assets once they are uploaded. **What do you dislike about Orange Logic?** There's a bit of a learning curve. I've used the platform for many years and still I find myself referring to the training manual from time to time. I would place an intuitive UI over additional features - no one likes a training manual! **What problems is Orange Logic solving and how is that benefiting you?** Orange DAM is a repository for all our digital assets, a vast archive of images spanning the past 75 years. The platform allows us to efficiently organise and manage everything in the back end from storage, to display, to licensing. As we were an early adopter of the database, it was set up around some of our working protocols, such as how we managed the difference between Stories and Albums and how it seamlessly integrated our 75 year catalogue numbering system. The system’s flexibility is beneficial on so many levels as we can usually find good workarounds for most new tasks for anything it cannot do. **What do you dislike about Orange Logic?** More control over the reports such as adding columns when needed, created more bespoke reports based on chosen criteria. Security profiles, permissions and workflow functions can be challenging to work out, but overall the system is excellent, especially compared to others on the market. **What problems is Orange Logic solving and how is that benefiting you?** The ability to have a clear and direct log of licensing use (by invoice) and associated portfolios/presentations at the asset level. Best features are it's flexibility as there's often more than one way to solve a problem, the support is timely, fair and always clearly communicated, it integrates seemlessly with our own production protocols which were created pre-Cortex and generally has twice as many features as we'll ever need. The way new features are pooled from Cortex clients into the core product is very helpful. Previously we created bespoke functions, but most of these have been absorbed into the core product. Also, the team are very knowledgeable on how we use the database, which is an advantage as there's so much complexity. **What do you dislike about Orange Logic?** Some admin functions such as security profiles and workflows can be quite complex to set up. Static page editing could also be improved, but this could be related our bespoke design elements. The Help guides are improving, so self-service is getting easier, but it's complexitty means you sometimes need to consult staff beyond the online recommendations. Upgrades can be difficult if your version carries bespoke functionality or design, but the team are knowledgeable and always aware of your version. **What problems is Orange Logic solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a photo agency and library, Cortex is our database of record for our media archive and all B2B services. Every department uses Cortex as media content is the core of all activities - we also have other software managing shops, commercial portfolios, education & learning, print sales management, but all rely in the media assets in Cortex. We have been able to configure a pan-institutional DAMS for a variety of users, use cases. and content types, allowing for greater collaboration, governance, and standards around our institutional assets. Regular system upgrades, feature enhancements, a communicative account manager, and an active ticketing portal ensure our staff is supported and our DAMS continues to mature. **What do you dislike about Orange Logic?** It’s a complex system that can be intimidating for new users. The ability to customize is a plus, but it also means that questions regarding our specific environment can’t always be answered in the documentation and solutions can’t necessarily be configured independently. This one of our biggest issues prior to using OL and now that we have it, it is amazing! ANother thing that is very beneficial and important is how accessible we can make our DAM to internal and external partners. We are able to now make assets visible for certain groups v others and vice a versa. Allowing our usuers to create their page to their needs via filters, collections, sharing assets, etc. has made it very user friendly. which is a blessing! **What do you dislike about Orange Logic?** Overall OL DAM has been successful but since we are still in the early phase of having OL DAM we are running into downloading errors, template creations but importantly since there is sooo much that we can customize users are having a lot of questions on how to exactly use the DAM, they are having issues uploading images/files, download options not working and also the time it takes to create the templates and add the fields to it, it is very tedious especially if we have templates that have multiple options. Again, since we are still new and learning the ins and outs of the platform I am seeing more issues than say afte a year of using it and that is okay. Oh also, another thing is being able to customize templates after they have been completed, this might be something we can do but need to learn how to do it since users use the same template and updating something that is already created is huge v having to start all over again. **What problems is Orange Logic solving and how is that benefiting you?** OL DAM is helping us fix and update our way of using a DAM for our organization. We switched vendors because our old DAM was not meeting the needs of our growing need for assets, especially our customized templates. They were able to show us similar organizations to ours and emphasized what was important to us. We are a template heavy non profit due to our many chapter and national staff who need to customize based on their local regions. The OL team worked with us on exact use case scenarios to ensure we were comfortable with all aspects of the tool - even things that were out of scope at the time but could be useful in a phase 2 launch! **What do you dislike about Orange Logic?** I truly can't find many things that we dislike. Perhaps the ticketing system? When working through implementation, most things must be documented via tickets and that takes extra time for our team when trying to move swiftly. **What problems is Orange Logic solving and how is that benefiting you?** The biggest problem Orange Logic is solving for us is our use of templates for our large staff. We had over 500 templates in our old system and because of the extreme customization options we can reduce to only 50 templates in the new system! ### 16. We researched and interviewed a wide variety of DAM candidates and found that OrangeDAM was the only one that could help us effectively manage our media assets: moving images and sound. Their caption management tool allows us to easily caption and make searchable film/video and audio files and provide our user community with a new level of access that wasn't available to them (or us) before. This is a game changer in making our media collections findable/searchable for our users. We also have the ability to link assets so that video or audio files are presented with their accompanying scripts, press materials, etc to provide users with a more holistic view of our media collections. They also worked with us to integrate into OrangeDAM a new tool (similar to OCR) to help better transcribe handwritten manuscripts, of which we have many thousand in our special collections area. There are a lot of tools that exist to help make a better user experience and we're still exploring them after a year of working with the product. And they just released OrangeMAM, which we are also looking at to further assist us in managing our video workflow. We're excited to see that as well. **What do you dislike about Orange Logic?** There is so much to learn about the system that it can overwhelming, especially if you don't have much DAM experience. However, they just released a new learning center that is more in depth and intuitive than the former help center and has helped us answer internal questions and complete more advanced tasks. OL also provides 'office hours' in which customer's can ask specific questions about OrangeDAM in a live virtual enviroment. That is very helpful for clarifying how tools work or for questions specific to customer's specific instance of the system. **What problems is Orange Logic solving and how is that benefiting you?** One of the biggest issues for us was making our media collections available to our user community. These are moving image and audio assts. We couldn't ingest them into earlier systems because they couldn't handle them. Now we can and for the first time users can see our videos/film/audio assets in one central place. They had previously only existed on an internal server with a single gatekeeper. Users couldn't search, much less find the content they needed or worse, didn't even know that it existed. Even if it can be a bit complex to understand at first as it has been built to adapt to any scenario, the documentation is complete and well organized, and OL remains well involved and close to its clients. Cortex is solid, is supports the load for our thousands of users daily, we've barely met a bug, allowing us to focus on refining our processes, fine tuning the functionnalities being proposed natively and focusing on the onboarding. We exploit only a part of what is available but the potential is huge, especially when you look for automation and Marketing Resource Management. It integrates well in our ecosystem, thanks to all the native connectors and its API first approach. **What do you dislike about Orange Logic?** By experience, I would recommend to spend the necessary time to understand well the solution and comes with a clear set of requirement so that it can be translated in the solution with the right customization. Being assisted by a consulting company that would manage this translation between your proceses and Cortex may be a good idea. Although most of the DAM features are intuitive (download, upload, share ...), the security requires to allocate enough time to be properly set but I guess it is quite common with DAM solutions, and the navigation can be disturbing at first everything is an asset there (a project, an digital asset, a person ...) so the navigation feels the same everywhere and you could get lost. Do not plan to build everything all at once (DAM and MRM), it can become quite complex quickly. But really this is a matter of time, investment and method. The fact that if one wants to do this one has to create a PDF seems incredibly byzantine. **What problems is Orange Logic solving and how is that benefiting you?** As an archivist, I use the DAM as a way of organizing material chronologically and intelligibly. ### 44. New features are regularly launched which keeps the platform competitive. It's fully customisable which is advantageous as we have a lot of users and rigid asset storage structures. **What do you dislike about Orange Logic?** Tickets can take time to be reviewed. After infrastructure upgrades there can be a few system issues that need resolving which can slow users down. **What problems is Orange Logic solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sharing of assets globally and across teams. Managing asset rights and embargoed content in a clear and consise way.
