There are two ways of replication is available in Golden Gate. One is uni directional and the second one is bi directional. Uni directional goldengate is used widly in reporting application where the production data is replicated to the reporting application and the reports can run over the reorting database which will avoid performance issues on the production system. Also this goldengate setup act as a both the way replication system which is called bi directional which is very much essential in an environment where data is avcested in multiple system and updates are also happening in multiple system and there should be an requirement that data should be synced between systems **What do you dislike about Oracle GoldenGate?** It is more complex to resolve if there is an lag issues between systems. Also if there is any network failure then the replication will get affected and the reporting database will provide the old data which has been captured before network failure from the prod database. Also the troubshootimg needs much knowledge about the Oracle components and with the help of the vendor support the troubleshloting can be dont for comples issues. It stores all data you could ever need for products and has the capability to changes all different aspects of products for our site. It's complicated trying to make changes; sometimes changes are not allowed and I have to completely exit the oracle application and go back in to make changes. The design is not appealing and looks outdated as well. It was an awesome project back then with version 10, but Oracle has continued adding tonnes of features to it ever since and this is just the best replication solution i have worked with. I have done all kinds of replication using Oracle GoldenGate. Be it homogeneous, heterogeneous, unidirectional, bidirectional, on premise , on cloud (Oracle Public Cloud), integrating with JMS (Java Messaging System), we have done it all. We have loved the product so much that we have over years replaced all our existing replication infrastructure using Oracle GoldenGate. I love that you can perform changes in almost zero downtime, replicate millions of data in sub seconds and their is large online documentations and forums to help you with troubleshooting any problems. This doesn't requires a lot of expertise to begin with and overtime, you will love working on it. Oracle GoldenGate now also comes with many GUI based tools like OGG Studio, OGG Director, OGG Monitor and OGG Veridata. These come with additional cost, but are great add-ons. **What do you dislike about Oracle GoldenGate?** I am an Oracle GoldenGate fan, so it's hard to say what i dislike about it. But yes, i would have loved if it was easier to find syntax errors in your GoldenGate commands. Sometimes it just tells you ambiguous generic error messages for a syntax error. Although, with experience on working with OGG, you can easily overcome with this slight drawback. **Recommendations to others considering Oracle GoldenGate:** It is especially worth the buck if you have large infrastructure environments and have complex replication needs. **What problems is Oracle GoldenGate solving and how is that benefiting you?** We implemented Oracle GoldenGate on at least 400 database environments. We have a large infrastructure with tonnes of applications to assign installation and repair jobs to field technicians. In some of the applications, we can't afford latency or replication errors. I was able to find what I needed, but it took longer than I think it needed to. The system was navigable, but not until I had training on it. Before that I was clueless on how to find anything. **What do you dislike about Oracle GoldenGate?** It was more complicated than it needed to be. Without the training I feel that it isn't intuitive. I think maybe the structure should be reinvented so that it is more intuitive. **Recommendations to others considering Oracle GoldenGate:** Make sure to go through the training they provide. Otherwise you will be confused. Their training is helpful and so is customer support. Everyone is able to place their individual orders and be billed directly to their purchase centers. It allows me to granularly replicate specific tables **What do you dislike about Oracle GoldenGate?** In our experience it is important to check that the database is prepared to proceed with the replication through OGG.
