DCIM means many different things to many different people, and there is a multitude of commercial applications available. openDCIM does not contend to be a function by function replacement for commercial applications. Instead, openDCIM covers the majority of features needed by the developers - as is often the case of open source software. The software is released under the GPL v3 license, so you are welcome to take it, modify it, and share it with others, as long as you acknowledge where it came from ## openDCIM Reviews ### 1. It is intended to serve as an alternative to for-profit DCIM systems and features open source code. allows for inventory management, creating a map of the DC area, and monitoring temperature and power usage. **What do you dislike about openDCIM?** Remote power-off, server restarting, and OS installation functionality are not supported. It is difficult to allign up the rack positions with the diagram of the floor space. **What problems is openDCIM solving and how is that benefiting you?** openDCIM is helping us to solve a variety issues. Multiple Room Support (Data Centers) and space, power, and cooling management, the three essential components of capacity management. **What do you dislike about openDCIM?** As an openDCIM is open source, the issue of data safety and security features is unavoidable.and one more is while we can correctly align it on some maps, doing so on some other maps is challenging. **What problems is openDCIM solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am using this for data management as it is a free and open-source application. Openness to integrating with other 3rd-party systems to improve environment and power and maximize data centre efficiency. **What do you dislike about openDCIM?** The following operations are not supported: remote shutdown, server restarting, and OS installation. There are concerns regarding data security and safety because the technology is more of an open standard. More realism has to be added to the visualization. **What problems is openDCIM solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use it to manage data centre infrastructure. The need for a spreadsheet or word-processing document is no longer necessary. It was affordable. It helped with picture inventory management as well as the tracking of physical items. ### 5. The software also enables businesses to set up a workflow mechanism to manage rack requests. **What do you dislike about openDCIM?** I didn't find anything dislikable in this; it is very helpful to my mates and me as well; also a very excellent tool to use. The UI is a bit complex that could be simple **What problems is openDCIM solving and how is that benefiting you?** This is the ideal tool for keeping things current while completing other chores, and I have used it for the database. It is free web based software and many things available for many people as the name suggests .This is great platform. **What do you dislike about openDCIM?** Sometimes it becomes difficult to allign up the rack position with your diagram of the floor space and sometimes I face integration issues. By the way platform is good. **What problems is openDCIM solving and how is that benefiting you?** It helps in data center infrastructure management and also it is user friendly environment and also it is easier and less time consuming to use . It helps me a lot. ### 7. Also, you can store a wealth of information for each server. **What do you dislike about openDCIM?** The one thing I dislike is the difficulty of aligning up the rack positions with your diagram of the floor space. On some maps, I can get them to align up correctly while on others they can be off a little bit and it just cascades the errors. On some, I just give up and live with the errors instead of trying to redo them. **Recommendations to others considering openDCIM:** We have come to rely on the information that we store in OpenDCIM for our work. The biggest failure we have had with OpenDCIM is when we fail to keep our data current. As they say, Garbage In Garbage Out. **What problems is openDCIM solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use it as a database of what we have on the floor of our computer room, which is effective if you keep everything up to date. There are so many more features that we could try to use if we had the time and desire to use, like power usage and network wireing. ### 8. One can easily understand all the options which are provided for certain tasks. **What do you dislike about openDCIM?** It is difficult to allign up the rack positions with the diagram of the floor space. In some of the maps we can allign it properly, on some other maps it is hard to allign. **What problems is openDCIM solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have used this for database management and this is a best tool for keeping things up to date with other tasks. It works with both small and large data sets and is easy to redistribute or modify it. I am pleased with the server performance and can easily monitoe cpu and memory usage. **What do you dislike about openDCIM?** Faces some issues while assigning multiple levels of user rights. Tech support, however, was quick in response and resolved the issue.
