Due to its relative small size, internal discussions around MI/analytics can get dominated by big players, "why don't we use Power BI?". The initial configuration process ahead of deployment took some time to design and plan, but the application has been able to be adapted to requested changes swiftly since deployment. We are somewhat dependent on the Metapraxis consultants to perform changes to the system; this is our choice currently as we do not have the headcount to make manage the system. The technology is very powerful, but we aren't able to make full use of it as our business processes are somewhat disparate and as a result we don't get full value from our licensing. Initially, it took a decent amount of design and thought time to organize and configure the application, given the business's complexities and the process being replaced. However, once implemented, extending the initial application to address and automate additional use cases has been straightforward. Additionally, there is a bit of a barrier to taking ownership of the application with the required knowledge of the software but we have instead leaned on the Metapraxis team for any changes and have been impressed by the speed and continued quality of work, so we have not needed or wanted to take this on. The application is near limitless in terms of the flexibility of modeling that you can undertake, persistence of data, restatement of differing versions of datasets, calculation logic, presentation format etc, and if you know what you are doing can be very quick and easy to make changes. It takes a long time to learn Empower, and even once you are an experienced user there are still features within the software that often don’t work the way you would expect. Understanding how this works is a case of trial and error, which can make the application frustrating to develop in at times. However, once you have learned how to use the feature then it will behave consistently in the future.
