I'm very impressed by the offering of Manager - Free Accounting Software given the free price point. It's perfect for keeping costs down if your accounting needs are relatively small, and you can pay for the extras if your business grows. I like that it's desktop-based, which means no loading times compared to web-based options, and I feel more in control of my data with all the security of having it saved locally. It has all the features I have at work on professional paid software, albeit more basic, but it's perfectly suitable for the size of my freelancing. The interface is customizable, letting me have a bespoke view without the extras I don't use. The initial setup was fairly easy, thanks to its nice and simple interface. I have a finance background, so understood the accounting logic and terminology, but can see that this might be confusing for someone with zero accounting experience. One also has to be diligent about safely backing up the data regularly, as being saved locally means you risk losing everything if your computer malfunctions!
