What I like best about Mailosaur is how easy it makes automated email testing. What I like best about Mailosaur is how easily it fits into automated E2E testing. What I dislike most is that there's no push/webhook-based way to wait for an email — we have to poll the search API in a loop with a timeout, which adds latency and a class of flakiness risk to every email-dependent test; on top of that, inbox addresses are locked to the .mailosaur.net domain, so we had to build extra logic to filter out real-looking addresses that can't actually receive test mail, and when delivery issues came up, the API/dashboard didn't always make it easy to tell apart "our app is misconfigured" from "Mailosaur rejected the send," which eventually pushed us to write a raw SMTP probe script just to isolate the cause. Honestly, the best part about Mailosaur is how smoothly it handles OTPs and magic links in automated testing. Instead of wrestling with flaky real inboxes, its SDKs integrate cleanly with tools like Cypress or Playwright, so you can pull verification codes right away. That, in turn, prevents tests in my CI/CD pipeline from failing just because of delivery delays. The biggest downside is definitely the price—it gets expensive fast, especially for larger teams because they charge per-user on top of your message volume. Also, the SMS testing features are locked behind higher tiers that are tough for smaller budgets to justify. While the web dashboard works, searching and filtering through massive batches of test messages can feel a bit clunky. We piloted Mailosaur to solve a specific, painful problem: our CIAM

magic-link sign-in flow needs an automated test to receive a real

Firebase email, extract the one-time code, and complete the round-trip —

all without a human clicking a link. The two things that made it work

for us:

1. **Real HTTP/SDK access.** Our prior tooling was a screen-scraped

public inbox, which meant any API-tier regression that needed the

email body had to fall back to a UI runner. With Mailosaur we drove

the same flow from Loadmill (REST), Postman/Newman (REST), and

Playwright (the Node SDK) — same backend, three layers of test

coverage, no UI scraping.

2. **Per-run inbox isolation under one server domain.** Being able to

mint a fresh local-part on demand under `*@.mailosaur.net`

killed the entire class of flake we'd been fighting where the

"newest email" heuristic would pick up a leftover from a prior run.

Honestly, very little for a POC of this size. One thing worth flagging

for other Firebase users: the SDK's time-window message search can

return matches you don't expect if you're not careful with the

`receivedAfter` cursor — once we switched to a snapshot-then-poll-by-ID

I explored a couple of other tools, but what attracted me to Mailosaur was how simple and intuitive the UI is. It's easy to follow along and use, even without any documentation. What stands out to me is the effectiveness and simplicity.
