&lt;p&gt;Worth adding that the fragile part usually isn&#39;t your side of the transfer, it&#39;s the partner&#39;s. A job runs perfectly for two years and then someone at the other end adds a date stamp to a filename, rotates a key, or moves the drop folder, and your pattern match stops matching. The expensive version of that is the silent one, where nothing errors because nothing arrived. So the automation feature I&#39;d weight highest is alerting on non-arrival inside an expected window, not just alerting on a failed job. Couchdrop automating as files land is the right shape for that, since it treats arrival as the event rather than the clock.&lt;/p&gt;
