## Magnolia Reviews
  ### 1. Magnolia: The Right Balance Between Governance and Flexibility

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Giacomo C. | Software Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Magnolia?**

Magnolia stands out because it is much more than a CMS. It provides the governance, scalability, multisite capabilities, multilingual support, and integration flexibility that large organizations need. As a Magnolia Partner, we’ve successfully delivered complex digital experience platforms where global governance and local autonomy must coexist. The hybrid-headless architecture, visual editing experience, reusable content model, and strong partner ecosystem make Magnolia one of the most complete DXP solutions on the market today.

**What do you dislike about Magnolia?**

Magnolia is a powerful enterprise platform, so organizations should be prepared for a higher level of complexity compared to basic CMS solutions. To get the most value, proper planning and implementation are important. However, this complexity comes from the platform’s extensive capabilities, which become a major advantage as digital ecosystems grow.

**What problems is Magnolia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Magnolia helps us address governance, scalability, and content management challenges across complex multisite and multilingual environments. It enables centralized control over branding, workflows, permissions, and reusable content while empowering local teams to operate independently within defined guidelines. This reduces operational overhead, improves content consistency, accelerates publishing processes, and allows us to deliver modern digital experiences more efficiently to our clients.

  ### 2. Quick and Efficient for Multiple Markets

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ivan D. | IT Program Manager – Digital Business, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Magnolia?**

I really like the speed with which Magnolia allows me to publish content across my entire website. This is especially useful because I manage more than 25 different markets in 9 languages. The Life Copy plugin is incredibly useful as it allows for quick duplication of content between markets and creating exceptions when necessary. The initial setup of Magnolia was quite agile and fast, which was a great improvement from our previous base.

**What do you dislike about Magnolia?**

Right now we have a somewhat outdated infrastructure implementation, tomcats that take a long time to start up and do not scale in the best possible way, and we are considering migrating to a Kubernetes-based architecture.

**What problems is Magnolia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Magnolia makes it easy for me to publish content quickly on my multinational website, managing 25 markets in 9 languages. Its Life Copy plugin simplifies and speeds up content duplication and customization where necessary.

  ### 3. A great addition to any digital agency’s CMS portfolio.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tobias G. | Senior Software Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 25, 2026

**What do you like best about Magnolia?**

A super flexible and lightweight system with forward-looking Al support that is continuously being expanded.

A very open and friendly network of Magnolia employees, partners, and customers that makes it easy to get started with the system and become part of the community.

**What do you dislike about Magnolia?**

At the moment, there is nothing that I would have to complain.

**What problems is Magnolia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Magnolia CMS solves the challenge of managing digital content in a flexible and efficient way across different channels. For us, this means we can create, adapt, and deliver content more easily while staying agile in complex digital environments. Its growing AI capabilities and the strong, supportive Magnolia community also help us work faster, get up to speed quickly, and continuously improve how we use the platform.

  ### 4. Decoupled Architecture that orchestrates Omnichannel Experiences

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Saber K. | Digital Experience Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Magnolia?**

I like how the architecture is built in a decoupled way, which allows it to act as an orchestrator for omnichannel experiences.

**What do you dislike about Magnolia?**

Nothing really serious to complain about, but they do have a solid product. I just think they should do a better job selling it to marketers.

**What problems is Magnolia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Magnolia is at the heart of the new content management paradigm, addressing how content and assets can be centralized while still allowing teams to build structured experiences that boost brand visibility with AI engines.

  ### 5. Flexible Hybrid Headless CMS with a Client-Friendly Authoring Experience

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Magnolia?**

What I like best about Magnolia is the clean separation between content and presentation, and an author experience clients can actually use without hand-holding. Light development means fast iteration, and the hybrid headless model keeps me flexible.

**What do you dislike about Magnolia?**

What I like less is the licensing cost — it’s a real conversation with mid-market clients, and the CE-to-DX gap can feel steep. The smaller community compared to bigger platforms means fewer ready answers when you hit something odd, and you lean more on the docs and your own experience.

**What problems is Magnolia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Magnolia solves the content governance problem for enterprise clients — multiple authors, multiple languages, approval workflows, and brand consistency across large sites. For regulated DACH clients especially, that structure and auditability matters. It also solves the “marketing wants to move fast but IT owns the stack” tension: authors get a usable editor while developers keep control of the templating and architecture.

  ### 6. Highly Flexible CMS with Easy Setup

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bernhard P. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Magnolia?**

I use Magnolia for basic CMS functions at work, and I like how it makes it easier to create a huge amount of data with preset definitions and reuseability. I really appreciate Magnolia's flexibility, especially in how its shipped functionality can be adapted and overridden for more specific use cases. The initial setup was really easy too; it basically works out of the box.

**What do you dislike about Magnolia?**

I think the documentation could be improved with more use case examples to make it easier to implement something new.

**What problems is Magnolia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Magnolia makes it easier to create large amounts of data with reusable preset definitions.

  ### 7. Magnolia Transformed Our Business

**What do you like best about Magnolia?**

Magnolia is very easy to use, and it makes creating content simple and straightforward.

**What do you dislike about Magnolia?**

Sometimes the process of opening dialogs, editing, and saving just to preview content can be frustrating. That said, it looks like this is being resolved in the newest update!

**What problems is Magnolia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Magnolia allows us to deliver content at scale across our website, even with a small team.

  ### 9. Flexible Extension Platform, but the Upgrade Path Needs Work

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Magnolia?**

Its flexibility is what makes it such a powerful tool for adding new extensions.

**What do you dislike about Magnolia?**

The upgrade path isn’t easy, starting with the fact that it doesn’t use semantic versioning.

**What problems is Magnolia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It’s not only a CMS for a website; it also works as a content provider for other products, with a solid editor experience.

You can save your content using this software from getting corrupted and the backup can be possible without using any external sources.

Magnolia CMS tool doesn’t support a good administrative panel and even the paid version is very time taking. Thus, there are some amendments that even the premium version needs because this one doesn’t worth the price. There come the incompatibility issues and several installations, management plus plugin issues. Therefore, the developers should address these issues as soon as possible.

**What problems is Magnolia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Philipp S. | Full Stack Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 29, 2023

**What do you like best about Magnolia?**

It is among the easiest-to-use CMS tools for laying out and creating current sites and applications. It permits me to completely coordinate our items or maybe have a portion of the perspectives discrete. It is explicitly intended for your broad consolidation. Simply an open-source administration enables cloud services. There's no data redundancy, and it's easy to use. Since it is cloud-based software, it can be accessed from anywhere at any time. It contains a backup that offers you extra space and prevents content material from being compromised.

**What do you dislike about Magnolia?**

It lacks the administrative interface and shows no interaction details. Implementing the administrative interface is a complex task. Upgrading from previous versions is costly and time-consuming. Many of its releases are incompatible with past versions. It would be difficult to remove any module. You'll need two datasets, one for shared folders and one for everything else. The administrative interface is very difficult to use. The initial installation of Magnolia CMS seemed to be complicated.

**What problems is Magnolia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Magnolia's group needs to zero in more on rolling out new improvements as change is the only thing that is steady and takes into account the speed at which the contenders give refreshes. Aside from that, we have not noticed any deficiencies in the device.

**What problems is Magnolia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Magnolia works with its clients by furnishing them with a lot of adaptabilities. One can become familiar with the fundamental level of this CMS in several days attributable to its decent UI. It is an open-source platform for effectively taking care of dynamic substances. Efficiency sponsor.

**What do you like best about Magnolia?**

User-friendly platform. Fast, scure and stable. It is a very good product. I recommend you.

**What do you dislike about Magnolia?**

The absence of an administrative interface and the lack of process details are notable limitations of Magnolia. Integrating an administrative interface can be a challenging and intricate undertaking. Upgrading from previous versions can be costly and time-consuming, particularly due to compatibility issues between certain editions. Removing plugins can also pose difficulties. Additionally, managing Magnolia CMS requires handling two separate datasets—one for shared folders and another for remaining content. The administrative interface itself is considered complex and challenging to navigate. Furthermore, the initial installation process of Magnolia CMS may appear intricate and demanding.

**Reviewed by:** Mohsin S. | Principal Software Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 06, 2022

**What do you like best about Magnolia?**

Among the most user-friendly CMS platforms for establishing and developing modern websites and apps. It allows me to entirely integrate our products or perhaps have some of the aspects separate. It is specifically designed for your extensive incorporation. It's just an open-source service that empowers cloud services. There's no data redundancy, and it's simple to utilize. Because it is cloud-based software, it can be accessed from everywhere at any time. It contains a backup that offers you extra room and prevents content material from being corrupted.

**What do you dislike about Magnolia?**

It lacks an administrative interface and displays no process details. Implementing the administrative interface is a complex task. Upgrading from prior versions is costly and time-consuming. Few of its editions are incompatible with previous versions. It'd be difficult to remove any plugin. You'll need two datasets, one for shared folders and one for everything else. The administrative interface is really difficult to use. The initial installation of Magnolia CMS appeared to be pretty complicated.

  ### 27. Magnolia has helped us make huge improvements to our digital capabilities

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** March 15, 2022

**What do you like best about Magnolia?**

Ease of use of the platform
Powerful integrations with a range of 3rd parties
Fast, stable and secure
Great product support

**What do you dislike about Magnolia?**

Missing some key features required in more complex situations or when needed for mass scale. Great for single sites / single-site -trees. Currently working with approx 200 sites

**What problems is Magnolia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Poor experience with our current platform - very outdated and lacking in any real development roadmap
Poor experience for marketeers with current platform and very difficult/complex for those with limited knowledge

Magnolia has helped to unlock both of these two key areas

  ### 28. Best content management tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nainish A. | Assistant Systems Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 29, 2021

**What do you like best about Magnolia?**

Magnolia is a powerful and robust content management system that helps create custom apps and helps store the data in those apps. It is secure and provides multisite support. It is an open-source platform that provides cloud storage and multi-level security. It also prevents any data loss and due to the presence of a web-based app, it is easier to access it from anywhere. My favourite feature of Magnolia is multi-site management as it helps to manage multiple sites in one place without any hassle. This saves a lot of time for developers as well as solution architects. Another feature I love is it provides smooth content migration which makes the whole process very efficient and hassles free. It also provides multilingual support which basically helps in the wider reach of our product.

**What do you dislike about Magnolia?**

Magnolia user interface is complex to understand which can make its customer lose interest in using it. Magnolia must have a discussion forum to clear the doubts of their clients and to have a healthy discussion about new features and their usage. Also while using angular js with magnolia the whole process becomes very slow.

**Recommendations to others considering Magnolia:**

Magnolia is a content management system or platform and it is best suited for managing different sites and providing the clients with an option to modify the website. It helps in the multi-site setup which basically helps developers as well as solution architects to maintain all sites in one place. This tool has a speciality to handle heavy integration.

**What problems is Magnolia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest business problem was assembling sites, so by using this CMS tool, assembling the sites became easier and helped provide the client with an opportunity to modify some sort of functions. It has improved the overall efficiency and availability.

  ### 29. Magnolia : Open source, Powerful and robust Java based Content management system(CMS)

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jagruti P. | Senior Analyst, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 30, 2020

**What do you like best about Magnolia?**

- I never thoughts that Java has fantastic CMS like "Magnolia" compare with other languages its easy to use and learn, I just learned basic level of Magnolia CMS in two to three days as its just have good User Interface to handle content.

-Powerful and robust content management platform.

-Customizable based on user needs.

-Updates available based on new changes.

-Any developer with basic knowledge of Java and JSP can assemble and create website.

-Secure and provide the multisite support.

**What do you dislike about Magnolia?**

Sometimes if we have update template and other layout related things for example replacing of textbox control with drop down box or list box with some default value, it will update other component alignment as well and forcefully need CSS change externally to handle user interface rest things well and good.

**Recommendations to others considering Magnolia:**

Need Better knowledge of Java server pages (JSP) and JavaScript knowledge for better understanding and fast work.

Never use blindly without knowing your target audience, applicable domains and sensitivity of data, If clients need to handle website by them self then gives some training  and advice they can also handle some layouts and user interface using this CMS.

**What problems is Magnolia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- It has been used as a Web Content Management tool for the Milan, Italy's fashion platform which is very big fashion company.

- It provides the multisite support for the multiple website using the single platform for example I have used for four different language.

- Creation of common templates which could be used across all the sites.

  ### 31. My experience of using with magnolia for 1 year

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Najiba H. | Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2021

**What do you like best about Magnolia?**

I liked the ability to create custom apps, store data in those apps. It reduces the overhead of adding a new database and gives more customisation power.

**What do you dislike about Magnolia?**

Using react or angular with magnolia makes it very slow. Most of the UI development must be done using plain html and jquery.

**Recommendations to others considering Magnolia:**

It is a Java based CMS. Will work perfectly if your system is java based. Has many capabilities and features with good level of customisation powers but not too easy to use them.

**What problems is Magnolia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using it for managing dynamic content on our websites. The marketing team can change stuffs without contacting dev team. They can easily add/remove components, change content of static pages like about us , control styling to a certain extent, change banners, temporarily add offers etc.

  ### 32. Magnolia - Digitised Content Manager

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Prateek A. | IT Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2021

**What do you like best about Magnolia?**

Easy to plug, Spring Integration with the help of blossom library.
Author to Public features, Workflow management.

**What do you dislike about Magnolia?**

Content node was bit tricky, had issue with publishing data from Author to Public.

Only once faced a blocker for which we had a connect with magnolia developers to solve.

**What problems is Magnolia solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Since it's a CMS i.e. nothing but a content management system, so our main agenda was to deal with dynamic content but without any deployment or server restart.
Hence, we chose Magnolia as a CMS tool with which any one can change the content of a webpage without having much knowledge on technical front.

Not just it's easy to use by any naive person but also one can have varied version control as well such as to rollback if needed.
So over-all, it was brilliant package if you have dynamic content on your web page
