If you like a LOVO "Premium" or "Emotional" voice, it might be OK to subscribe temporarily for a one-off project. However, it's impossible to trust them for any project where you want to maintain a consistent voice over an extended period. LOVO sold expensive lifetime deals to LOVO Studio in the middle of 2021. Almost immediately after, they shifted direction to creating and selling voice NFTs. While they were selling lifetime deals, Studio had a small number of excellent voices usable for text-to-speech. Many 3rd party voices supplemented the few LOVO voices available, but at the time, LOVO voices were much better than 3rd party voices from Microsoft, Google, and Amazon. Only their competitor WellSaid Labs was considered to have more natural-sounding voices back then. LOVO spent Winter 2021 through Fall 2022 focused 100% on the NFT/metaverse side of the business. They made one final update to LOVO Studio in March 2022, ruining any value the platform had. It removed at least a few of their best voices and downgraded the quality of the remaining LOVO-created voices. This was done quietly with no warning or even notice when it happened. A month or two later, they acknowledged voices had been retired with no apology or explanation. But they still have not even acknowledged the obvious quality downgrade of remaining voices despite many users complaining. In Late Fall and Winter 2022, after the NFT business was not working out as well as they'd hoped, they started work on a replacement for LOVO Studio, which became known as Genny. They are still working on NFTs, but both sides of the business are getting attention now. During alpha & beta testing of Genny, they told lifetime Studio users we'd get access to it. When it launched in January 2023, lifetime users were sent an e-mail saying they were generously gifting us two years of access to Genny. Tier 1 and Tier 2 lifetime plans got put on the 2-hour plan, and Tier 3 (unlimited use) got 5 hours of voice conversion per month. A few days after backlash from lifetime users, one of the founders responded, saying he should have read the e-mail before it was sent out (his name was at the bottom suggesting he wrote it), but we were actually being given lifetime access. Unfortunately, the discussion of other issues, primarily the low limits in Genny, was drowned out by the complaints about not receiving lifetime access. LOVO did not respond to that or other remaining issues. I'm sure they saw the other complaints, but they have a history of avoiding saying anything they know users won't like. Communication on both the Studio/Genny and the NFT sides of the business has been very poor. They had a Discord server for LOVO communication, but they announced they were shutting it down to transition to a Facebook group. They put a rule on the Facebook group that they don't sell lifetime deals, and no LTD discussion was allowed. Not unusual for a company that wants to get paid subscribers, but I knew the timing was a bad omen of things to come when Genny launched. In fact, they ended up shutting down their Discord immediately before launching Genny and sending the e-mail to lifetime users. Claimed Facebook is easier to moderate, which makes little sense. Unless they mean easier to prevent people from rejoining if they post complaints about LOVO not honoring lifetime deals. Their NFT Discord server remains and is unlikely to be shut down, given the NFT community primarily uses Discord and Twitter. They knew many lifetime users wouldn't appreciate getting screwed over, especially those who paid a lot for unlimited. Due to LOVO not being very smart when it comes to pronunciation, the 5 hours of voice conversion unlimited users now have will end up being 2 to 3 hours of usable output. I have no use for the poor selection of Voices in the abandoned Studio product, and 3 hours or less will force me to use another service. For someone making product review and explainer videos, that is way too little. I paid a lot for unlimited lifetime to ensure I wouldn't hit limits (I probably need 10 hours of usable output per month). Luckily there are lifetime deal groups on Facebook where we can still communicate. Again, I'll re-iterate these guys are friendly, and I've tried to remain optimistic given I spent a lot on a lifetime deal (despite it being a complete waste so far). They do shady things, but it has always seemed they were much more so clueless about how to run a business than being scammers. It's a shame they don't have someone else with a business background in charge of operations and strategy, ad they could be immensely successful. But as of now, LOVO is a mess without a bright future unless they quickly realize their mistakes. Seems like the young team running LOVO has been spoiled by receiving significant investments and has no sense of urgency or direction for the business. Hopefully, they will make things fair for lifetime users and figure out how to properly operate a business. It will take years to rebuild trust, but I'll keep this review updated with any changes. Otherwise, I'd recommend looking at WellSaid Labs, Murf, or using Microsoft or Google voices directly. All offer very natural voices for text-to-speech. **What problems is LOVO solving and how is that benefiting you?** It solves what any TTS service would solve. It used to benefit because they offered voices that sounded very natural and, a couple of years ago, were much better than most of their compeition.
