## LibreELEC Reviews
 ### 1. Lightweight and Reliable Media Center Solution

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mehul N. | Software Developer intern, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2026

**What do you like best about LibreELEC?**

What I like best about LibreELEC is how lightweight and fast it is for turning any device into a dedicated media center. The setup process is simple, the interface is clean, and Kodi runs very smoothly even on low-powered hardware like Raspberry Pi. It provides excellent stability, regular updates, and strong community support, making it a reliable choice for home entertainment systems.

**What do you dislike about LibreELEC?**

One thing I dislike about LibreELEC is its limited range of applications beyond media streaming, since it’s mainly focused on Kodi. I also find that more advanced configuration and troubleshooting can be challenging for beginners, particularly when it comes to add-ons, network settings, or hardware compatibility issues.

**What problems is LibreELEC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

LibreELEC solves the problem of creating a simple, dedicated, and reliable home media center without requiring a full desktop operating system. It allows me to stream and organize movies, TV shows, and music efficiently on low-cost hardware with minimal setup and maintenance. This benefits me by providing a smooth entertainment experience, faster performance, and lower system resource usage compared to traditional operating systems.

 ### 2. Stable Media Center With Excellent Performance

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chetana D. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2026

**What do you like best about LibreELEC?**

What I like most about LibreELEC is its lightweight design and consistently smooth performance as a dedicated media center operating system. It’s very easy to install and quick to boot, especially on devices like a Raspberry Pi or older PCs. The interface feels clean and clearly optimized for Kodi, which keeps navigation straightforward and user-friendly. Another big advantage is its stability—once it’s configured, it runs reliably and needs very little maintenance. LibreELEC also benefits from strong community support and regular updates, which makes it a cost-effective option for home entertainment setups.

**What do you dislike about LibreELEC?**

One downside of LibreELEC is that it’s mainly focused on running Kodi, so its flexibility for other desktop or productivity tasks is fairly limited. Some users may also find the initial setup and add-on configuration a bit technical, especially if they’re new to Linux-based systems. Hardware compatibility can sometimes be inconsistent with certain Wi‑Fi adapters or newer devices, and troubleshooting often relies on community forums rather than dedicated customer support. Overall, the interface is functional, but it can feel somewhat outdated compared to more modern streaming platforms.

**What problems is LibreELEC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

LibreELEC helps address the challenge of building a stable, cost-effective home media center without needing expensive hardware or complicated system management. Before using solutions like LibreELEC, keeping media playback consistent across different devices could feel unreliable and resource-intensive. With LibreELEC, the setup is lightweight, fast, and tuned specifically for Kodi, which improves the overall streaming experience and makes media organization smoother.

The platform’s straightforward UI/UX makes navigation easy even for non-technical users. At the same time, its integrations with Kodi add-ons, network storage, streaming services, and remote-control apps increase accessibility and flexibility. Another major advantage is efficient resource management, which allows older or low-powered devices, such as Raspberry Pi systems, to run reliably as dedicated entertainment setups.

LibreELEC also benefits from media-organization features available through Kodi integrations, including AI-powered metadata recommendations, automated library management, subtitles, and content categorization via supported add-ons. Overall, it reduces maintenance effort, helps keep hardware costs down, and delivers a smooth, dependable media experience backed by strong community-driven support and updates.

 ### 3. Streams Videos Smoothly on Raspberry Pi

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** A n. | n/a, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about LibreELEC?**

It streams videos quite well on a Raspberry Pi.

**What do you dislike about LibreELEC?**

I like LibreELEC quite a lot. The performance has been perfect for me.

**What problems is LibreELEC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is helping me to distribute our video streams to all our sites

 ### 4. Nice solution to use our low end systems

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jai S. | Manager Key Accounts-International Business, Consumer Goods, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 18, 2021

**What do you like best about LibreELEC?**

The best part is the feature of this software that it runs on very minimal requirements. We have started using Kodi to make presentations and training videos. Once a person get trained on this software, he can be most valuable asset of our AV training team.

**What do you dislike about LibreELEC?**

Our people are not very familiar with this software, and there is a lack of training material available on the internet.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreELEC:**

You can go for it in a country like India

**What problems is LibreELEC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have reduced our low-end systems and converted them to AV modules to train our newly joined GTs & GEs. It has saved our cost to buy new systems & also reduced our e-waste (as there were many old systems available).

 ### 5. Transformed device into a smart media hub

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bondan W. | Chief HR Officer, Retail, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 22, 2024

**What do you like best about LibreELEC?**

LibreELEC is a dream that comes true for my old Raspberry Pi. This makes it easier for customization and is well suited for tweaking which is why more and more people are attempting to assemble their own pc.

**What do you dislike about LibreELEC?**

LibreELEC is that it does not come with storage management as one of its primary tools. By incorporating media on the primary device, a user has to physically move files between the mobile device and another object such as a computer or a USB drive.

**What problems is LibreELEC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

LibreELEC, my Raspberry Pi became a true media center beast. It revives old hardware, allowing me to use Kodi with update hardware purchases. The compact size reduces lag and maintains a cool and silent operating system.

 ### 6. Offering a vast library of add-ons for customization

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kannan S. | Software Engineer, Business Supplies and Equipment, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2024

**What do you like best about LibreELEC?**

With LibreELEC, I can transform any compatible device into an effective media center. It is exceptionally lightweight, can quickly deploy and does not burden the system so that it can run flawlessly for playback.

**What do you dislike about LibreELEC?**

LibreELEC does not offer the convenience of using optimized apps for streaming or web browsing or any other functionality that may be required.

**What problems is LibreELEC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have never enjoyed my old Raspberry Pi as much as I do with LibreELEC now. In addition to this, Kodi’s interface offers extensive settings to meet my needs for a tailored media consumption.

 ### 7. A great but not a perfect experience

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2023

**What do you like best about LibreELEC?**

1. The option to add 3rd party add-ons without much trouble.
2. Easy viewing media from Samba or from DLNA.

**What do you dislike about LibreELEC?**

1. UI looks old.
2. Can't use applications like Netflix, Prime Video in LibreELEC

**What problems is LibreELEC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's making my TV much more interactive adding some good functionality like good Video codec support, good media viewing platform.

 ### 8. Work perfectly out of the box

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mui Chun L. | Sr Infrastructure Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 15, 2023

**What do you like best about LibreELEC?**

Setup is really simple. Just need to download the rom and boot up. Everything is taken care of.

**What do you dislike about LibreELEC?**

Need more pre-install skin for the software.

**What problems is LibreELEC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There are a lot of alternative software but libreelec setup is the simplest. Save a lot of time from manual setup.

 ### 9. Fantastic application for Kodi media player

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ashish C. | Embedded firmware Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2022

**What do you like best about LibreELEC?**

Used LibreELEC on Raspberry Pi 3 for Kodi media player and loved it. It is very lightweight and runs smoothly. By using this i was able to stream music and Netflix on my Raspberry Pi.

**What do you dislike about LibreELEC?**

I faced some difficulties while installing it on Raspberry Pi. And setting it up on Raspberry Pi for first time is bit tricky. Would like to see a detailed installation and setup instruction by the company.

**What problems is LibreELEC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It provides a all in one solution for streaming music, movies and games etc. It turned my spare Raspberry Pi into a useful device for playing movies, songs etc.

 ### 10. An OS forged for the sole purpose of streaming media. What else can you ask for?

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mohammad M. | Technical Support, Private Tutor & Content Writer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2022

**What do you like best about LibreELEC?**

Being able to repurpose my over-a-decade old sluggish laptop into a dedicated streaming machine has been made possible thanks to the exceptionally lightweight LibreELEC. Installing the operating system was straightforward & I was able to boot up & sign in to Netflix & YouTube shortly after setting up the OS. Local playback of my library of series, movies & music playlist was flawless as well.

**What do you dislike about LibreELEC?**

I've noticed a few disconnections with Bluetooth when connecting my Beats Flex wireless earphones to the laptop running LibrELEC which was unnoticed with the device's former OS - Windows 7 Starter. It's not a big deal as I occasionally use wired headphones to resolve the matter. That said, I'm sure a future update may arrive & fix the issue.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreELEC:**

I'd highly recommend LibreELEC only to those who have an old computer lying around collecting dust or if you own an old raspberry pi which you're not using much as the main microprocessor for word-related projects. Remember, LibreELEC is designed only for streaming content, so if you're planning to do anything more than that, then I suggest you look elsewhere.

**What problems is LibreELEC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Two things, really: inconvenience & e-waste. The former is in terms of watching my favourite shows on a 15" screen while having dinner on the table (which beats watching on a relatively-tinier mobile display) while the latter is about resurrecting & gladly being able to re-use the old computer as a dedicated media player.

 ### 11. Good distributive for the multimedia purposes

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ihor Z. | Cloud Infrastructure Engineer & Developer, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 24, 2022

**What do you like best about LibreELEC?**

I like the great support of different codecs and plugins and support of the ARM microprocessors. I was used Libreelec on my OrangepiPC2 board and found it quite a good solution.

**What do you dislike about LibreELEC?**

Nightly builds sometimes could be unstable, as for the stable releases - everything is quite well, also for my mini PC not all of the USB wifi adapters works correctly.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreELEC:**

I would recommend trying that platform for low power multimedia devices, like ARM mini-board computers, small NAS's and supported tv boxes. it is a quite fast and got solution to serve multimedia server needs.

**What problems is LibreELEC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I tested LibreElec as a private user at home to use as a multimedia player from my mini PC boards and to perform the connection to my audio & video databases. Later I have moved from ARM devices to X86 64bit CPU platforms (Intel Xeon 2011v3) and changed the software platform as well.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cody L. | SSoftware Development Engineer in Test, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

My favorite features are that it's a very lightweight operating system, as well as the fact I can use Kodi inside of it.

**What do you dislike about LibreELEC?**

Slower update release cadence can be a bit annoying if there are bugs, but nothing else!

**What problems is LibreELEC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The platform we were developing requires a large amount of various types of media for proper testing. LibreElec allows us to have a lightweight, fast OS to perform testing from!

 ### 19. Great minimalistic OS for your media needs

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

 ### 20. It's Open source so you get what you don't pay for.

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter C. | Field Sales Engineer II, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 17, 2020

**What do you like best about LibreELEC?**

I like that it's open source in that you can customize what you want. However, I hate that it's open source in that if something breaks up stream after you've customized something to work in your environment you get very little (read "NONE") support from the developers since you decided to break their code. I like that it's the follow on evolution of Kodi which was XBMC which was XBOX media Center (yes kids I'm that Old)... I remember having HALO LAN parties in barracks 33612 on Camp Margarita on MCB Camp Pendleton before 9/11 and our G-6 IT Marines would have so much Cat5 strung through out the barracks we would all be online slaying each other and then we'd all be streaming movies. I got nostalgic and thought I give this a go. It's not quite there yet but it made me walk back down memory lane for a week or so.

**What do you dislike about LibreELEC?**

I hate that it's open source in that if something breaks up stream after you've customized something to work in your environment you get very little (read "NONE") support from the developers since you decided to break their code.

Many of the developers are helpful but if you're not a programmer the development team doesn't have the patience to help you. The inability to speak a language is still a turn off to many users. Until such time as a developer learns to tolerate the pain of listening to a user's frustrations than this product's evolutions will only slowly evolve. Sadly commercial product will "lap" this very quickly and will sunset libre very quickly.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreELEC:**

Although I vastly prefer my apple tv plex app for it. in the long run it's cheaper to use the apple tv with the free plex app than trying to build a libre elec appliance.

**What problems is LibreELEC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's great in that I can use it as a stand alone media center for my plex server.

 ### 21. Lightweight small footprint to run Kodi

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2018

**What do you like best about LibreELEC?**

This is a very lightweight solution to running Kodi. If you are short on RAM, then LibreELEC is your solution. This runs perfectly on a raspberryPi which has very limited RAM. Once installed it runs smooth without any issues.

**What do you dislike about LibreELEC?**

Nothing not to like about this software. It does everything it should with using such a small amount of RAM.

**Recommendations to others considering LibreELEC:**

If you need Kodi on a small footprint...meaning hardware with minimal memory, then LibreELEC is exactly what you need. Whether you are installing on an Android box or a RaspberryPI, this software works perfectly.

**What problems is LibreELEC solving and how is that benefiting you?**

LibreELEC has solved the issue of running Kodi on hardware with very little memory. If you need a Kodi OS that will not take up much memory to install and run, then this software is definitely the answer.
