There are many advantages to this plug-in. The major advantage of Lexis for Microsoft Office is that it saves you time. It does this by cutting down on time spent formatting and providing you with quick access to research and precedent. The document tools will allow you to check citation, quotes and create a table of authority First, it will check your citations to let you know if they have been formatted correctly. Within this tool you can shepardize your citations in real-time to determine whether or not you want to include the source, or find other sources. You can also use the "get cited docs" function to access Shepard’s information from Lexis and it will suggest additional sources, in addition to providing you with a Shepard's analysis of your cited source.One of the best features is “cases,” which allows you to locate precedent or sample docs. You can access cases, briefs, etc. from the right hand display panel and drag and drop.It also provides you acces to “Guidance,” which is great for transactional attorneys looking for resources. however, the search and display tools are underrated. The search and display tools allow you to conduct research while you are drafting your document.Basically, you can search from the document without opening up a new browser. The point is , I think, to cut down on distraction.There are other tools that I used sparingly like the pdf convert, or accessing practical guidance, both of which are super useful when you are practicing and need to convert a doc into a pdf for court etc. These features really worked well for me and I am sure that they will work well for anyone who is familiar with the Lexis ecosystem. **What do you dislike about Lexis® for Microsoft® Office?** The Table of Authorities function is designed to create or update a table of authorities in seconds. Basically, the software reviews your doc to create a table of authorities with appropriate page numbers. You will have to work on the formatting of the table of authority that Lexis creates for you,but otherwise it is a really helpful feature. Moreover, the feature does allow you to format according to the specifications of your court, firm, or professor, so it is a helpful and timesaving tool. **What problems is Lexis® for Microsoft® Office solving and how is that benefiting you?** Finding additional sources to bolster my arguments. It really simplifies the process of researching. Moreover, checking citations is made simpler because it does the grunt work of checking your citations for you. Although, a quick review is always advisable to make sure that the citation is accurate using the check cite format tool. Another great thing about the check cite format tool is that it corrects all the citations, the parent and short cites, in the document.Lexis for Microsoft Office also allows you to check quotes using the so named feature. This feature allows you to verify your selected quotes against those in the original source, which will ensure that they are accurate and relevant. Overall, the check cite, check quote, and table of authority features really cut down on the time you will spend making sure that your document is compliant with the relevant formatting rules. Moreover, these tools can point you in the direction of really helpful sources, and ensure that your use of precedential sources is relevant and accurate. ### 10. It is sometimes not exactly clear whether or not the law is still good based on the treatment codes. I think there are awesome secondary sources and I like when lexis remembers what I have looked at in the past in the history and predicts what I am looking at for when I type. I addmittedly use Lexis everyday for reward points. That makes things exciting. **What do you dislike about Lexis® for Microsoft® Office?** I think that westlaw is easier to use. I feel like they're a little less commerical, but the porducts are very similar. **Recommendations to others considering Lexis® for Microsoft® Office:** Very expensive! **What problems is Lexis® for Microsoft® Office solving and how is that benefiting you?** researching and analyzing results for clients. This office simplifies drafting so you don't have to Shepardize separately or spend a lot of time on your table of authorities. **What do you dislike about Lexis® for Microsoft® Office?** I don't like using the Lexis Advance feature while working within the document. Might be easier for some, but I prefer to do the research prior to writing and then drafting my document. **Recommendations to others considering Lexis® for Microsoft® Office:** Spend some time learning to use the tools. Once you know how to use them, it really does cut down the time you spend drafting documents. **What problems is Lexis® for Microsoft® Office solving and how is that benefiting you?** Lexis for Microsoft Office reduces the time spent on Shepardizing and creating your table of contents ### 33. You can Shepardize your motions right inside of Microsoft Word. You can convert an opposing party's pleading from a PDF into a word document and go straight to the authority. You can create tables of authorities in seconds, which used to take over an hour. Unbelievable time saver for the legal document drafter! **What do you dislike about Lexis® for Microsoft® Office?** So far, Ohio is not a supported citation format, which is where I practice. For the most part there are not stylistic differences, but it would be nice to have all states' citations as options. **What problems is Lexis® for Microsoft® Office solving and how is that benefiting you?** Saving so much time by doing tasks in minutes that used to take hours.
