I felt very scammed because in the beginning they were telling me a different price than what I was being shown in their own portal. Then once I signed up I realized that a lot of the connections don't actually work. They advertise that they have connectivity with Instagram but they do not. I was told they were working on a solution more than 6 months ago and have not received a single update. Every time I contact support I get the impression that I am bothering them. Unlike the majority of BI platforms, building with Klipfolio feels more like designing a web page than configuring a single chart at a time. A single Klip can contain multiple graphs from different data sets, either displayed side by side or modeled together on the spot. Variables are straightforward and can be made independent of the data, which makes room for creative solutions to a wide variety of UI requirements. Then for the most custom experience, HTML and Javascript can be written directly into the Klips and utilize the same data sources as the out of the box components, powering even more creative solutions. **What do you dislike about Klipfolio?** The platform can run a little slow sometimes, particularly when performing complex actions. With Klips, data sources are always fully refreshed when loading up a dashboard, which can drag down the performance when working with multiple data sources at the same time. They offer some power-ups to help head this problem off, but I think pulling in some of the resources used in their power metrics product would move the needle forward. Another small suggestion would be to carry over more features from the highcharts library into the base components. There are more chart types, tool tip functionalities, axis options, and dynamic labeling options in the most recent version of the same JS library that Klipfolio visualizations run on. **What problems is Klipfolio solving and how is that benefiting you?** Through Klipfolio, I have been able to design client-facing dashboards that replace entire reporting cycles and allow analysts to annotate the data and clients to ask questions directly on the charts that they're referencing. Being able to set variable values through hyperlinks allows me to easily share exactly how I'm viewing the dashboard with team members, and the automated email feature has helped me get around the issue of relying on users to log in to see the dashboards. ### 10. I appreciate that it is very clear what functionality is available, what kinds of visualizations you can create, and how to customize them. The documentation for the Klip components and data transformation is pretty good. I also appreciate that Klipfolio can securely connect to our database with TLS (this was a must-have feature). I am a software developer, so it has been pretty easy to work with. **What do you dislike about Klipfolio?** Dashboards with custom date filters are pretty slow to load, even with defaults selected. Data refresh queries time out pretty quickly and I have noticed in several cases that the query will time out on Klipfolio's side, but the connection to the database is never terminated. So if a query times out in Klipfolio, the query will keep running against our database for no reason. I wish there was a setting to increase the timeout. **What problems is Klipfolio solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am a backend software developer and it would take a long time for me to build a custom front-end to make reports accessible to other departments and company leadership. The visualization interface saves me time from having to code the front-end myself and I don't have to rely on a different front-end development team to be able to quickly get reports set up and out to people. Klipfolio helps me be self-sufficient in my job function. ### 11. Get What You Pay For - Horribly Un-User Friendly, Overly Complex, Bad Support, Not for BI/Real-time **Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2022 **What do you like best about Klipfolio?** The cheap price, the customizability and the ability to create a global template that can be used across multiple clients are the only good things about Klipfolio. But you get what you pay for. Even the global templating system is a seriously painful thing to build, configure and maintain. It does not work as you would expect. **What do you dislike about Klipfolio?** 1. Extremely difficult configure and not user friendly at all to take advantage of and build any customized visualizations (Klips). 2. Building any custom visualizations or connecting any data source basically requires a developer (no kidding). For example, just adding a nice looking headline to a dashboard or Klip requires some scripting or HTML coding. If you don't want to pay a developer to build your reports, do not use Klipfolio. 3. There's no WYSIWYG functionality at all in this platform, zero. Everything must be built from scratch via scripts and coding unless all you need are the exact pre-built visualizations, which in my experience, are extremely limited and subpar. And they only have a small handful available. But if that's all you need, other platforms are much easier to use and configure and offer far more templates. 4. Terrible servers - when downloading PDFs, they constantly error out or time out, literally making a simple task like downloading a report/dashboard snapshot literally impossible. **Note, we are not using Klipfolio as a true "BI" tool as they claim it to be. We just need it for reporting. So our Klips have very few and only very simple calculations. Basically, all we do is pull in data from other platforms to be visualized. And much of the visualizations are simply metrics tables with data pulled in...no calculations at all. So it's hard to imagine how a true BI need involving more complex calculations could be filled by Klipfolio when our basic reporting needs cannot be fulfilled properly. 5. NOT real time...They claim to be a "real-time" "BI" tool, but Klipfolio cannot even properly support our basic static reporting. How could it provide robust real-time BI needs? As mentioned above, just downloading a PDF snapshot of a dashboard runs into errors. Is this "real-time?" Also, the dashboards take forever to load, and often they load without data. Klipfolio is far from what I would consider "real-time." You need a LOT of time on your hands to wait for the dashboard to load and then deal with the errors when trying to download or email a report. 6. Terrible and confusing access model. I've been using Google Ads, Google Analytics and numerous other SAAS platforms for over 20 years, and this is one of the worst access models I have ever encountered. Just scheduling an emailed report requires quite a complex setup. Then there are "Groups" that seem to be a good idea, but they don't provide access as you might expect. Actually, they seem almost useless and maybe just present to confuse you and take up more of your time to configure. 7. The promise of a global templating system to support hundreds of clients using the same dashboard was one reason we chose Klipfolio. But, it is painfully difficult to build, implement and maintain. You would think that after importing the "global template" dashboard into individual client accounts, you could just update the Global template easily to update all client dashboards that are using the global template, right? But this is not the case. Many changes to the global dashboard, such as data source changes, must be re-imported into each client account again. When we work with ~100+ clients, this is no easy task. So this 'capability' is not what you would expect and definitely very disappointing. 8. Customer support is mostly courteous but quite bad at actually helping...unless, of course, you pay for their over-priced premium support. When you report an issue like their servers timing out and throwing an "error" message that literally says in the error message to "contact support," they tell you you need to change what you're doing to build a smaller report/dashboard. Even though we built them within the allowed/documented specifications of 30 or fewer Klips/visualizations, support still insists that we must further reduce our report size. Then when you further push for help, they basically tell you, "oh too bad, it's not working; maybe this isn't the platform for you." Klipfolio support does not value your business after you sign up. **What problems is Klipfolio solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use Klipfolio to provide dashboards for our agency's clients. When the dashboards work (which is intermittent), we are able to share performance metrics from a variety of online marketing channels in one dashboard report via email or basic download. And we allow our clients to log in and access their own dashboard at any time. So for beginners at BI it may be a little too advanced. With the ease of combining multiple data sources directly in the visualizations, it has allowed us to avoid standing up a data warehouse on some occasions and use direct API calls to the services directly. Their formula language is a cross between SQL and Excel functions so to truly manipulate your data at will requires some familiarity with those two languages. Once you get over the learning curve of understanding how to shape your data, this product is nearly limitless in how you can set-up dashboards. Being able to inject custom HTML and JavaScript into your dashboards is an added bonus to further customize the look and feel. **What do you dislike about Klipfolio?** The klip side of the product (as opposed to PowerMetrics) is starting to look somewhat dated. Giving klips a bit of a facelift to bring it on par with PowerMetrics and updating some of the charting options would go a long way. While they do offer PDF printing of the dashboards, it's somewhat clunky as you have to tinker with the settings to print nicely. **What problems is Klipfolio solving and how is that benefiting you?** Pulling all of our reporting from disparate sources under one roof. We no longer have to login into each platform to see important KPIs.
