I like the ease of access to the program in that I can work anywhere I am connected to the internet. I also like the Intuit Link feature which makes it easy for clients to upload data for tax preparation. The ability to chat with customer support has been useful in getting answers quickly. It would be nice to be able to make some overrides a permanent setting in the software, similar to how I could in Lacerte. For example, it would be nice to be able to tell the software to use upper case for all returns rather than having to input the override in every return. The software is very intuitive for accounting professionals, particularly with individual or similar (estate/trust/1 person sole proprietorships) -type returns to file. For instance, the e-file verification and addition are front and center in the application home page and it reminds you how important having a valid e-file number is for filing current returns. The sideview ribbon clearly explains all diagnostic, income, and expense-related items that should be considered in preparing a return. The addition of multiple sub-items in each ribbon menu category is also helpful and easy to split up. Diagnostic or basic data about clients and preparer firm are easy to input. The entire interface is also pleasant to look at and loads quickly, as all data is stored on a cloud environment. Lastly, the capability to view inputted data in an organizer format, summarized when all data is inputted, and in the actual forms printed as part of the return submission was very helpful for review. The most frustrating parts of using ProConnect software relate to 1) lack of explanation on certain override fields, and 2) that some items are placed in the "Credits/Other" area of the main organizer window. For #1, there are many override fields located throughout the organizer for a variety of logical inputs that will override items on fields that show up on the actual forms which can change the calculations of tax owed/refunded accordingly. While some overrides are more obvious to what they affect, many others would be overrides for one item included on a different organizer window category. Or, the override wouldn't be well labelled so it wasn't clear what field would be updated on the form in question. For #2, it was observed that certain income/expense items were included in one of the last areas for credits/other items, when they seemed to not belong there. Or, that one area of this section would actually impact another related item that wasn't shown in that area. It was difficult to locate. For instance, it was difficult to tell that dependent care information entered in this Dependent Care Credit section would impact directly the Child Tax Credit Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What problems is Intuit ProConnect Tax solving and how is that benefiting you? ProConnect is allowing me to file the number of returns I would like to prepare for the current tax season, with a standard single access fee and an amount assessed for each return prepared, which is flexible and cheaper than most other options. The organizer is allowing me to prepare and file the returns in a way that is familiar given prior experience in large accounting firms, where returns were prepared for larger non-individual clients. This software allows me to enter and then view tax data in a form or summary format such that it is intuitive to me, with a much different client base than previously served. The software is mostly easy to use, and the technical support staff are great! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Intuit ProConnect Tax? I had a multi state return and accidentally filed some and extended some of the state returns. After that error I called Tech Support to verify I was extending my next return which was daughter's Fed and 1 state return correctly because I wanted to be sure I also paid her taxes from her bank account. I was reassured this was correct after they checked the account, but it was erroneously filed and refund was received for Federal and state properly paid. I would suggest it would be helpful if there was a confirmation of filing or extending, and whether taxes were paid to avoid any errors prior to accepting the filing. I called multiple times and was told how to properly do this later but I'm very frustrated that I was told this was correctly processed when it wasn't, and I still struggled on other accounts with extending and properly paying. Honestly, there isn't a whole lot to particularly like about the platform. If I had to say something it's the fact that it's on the more cost-friendly side when you consider that the filing fee includes state returns as well as amendments. Another positive, although the goal is to never need them--is the support team, the majority of whom are friendly and awesome at getting issues resolved. Searching for the inputs you need is pretty simple, although there are some difficulties in finding form fields. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Intuit ProConnect Tax? Where do I start? On business returns, you have to enter the same information up to 5 times if the same person is the main contact. partner/shareholder, officer, tax matter person, etc. The app doesn't have a way to simply select that person to be all of those functions. Additionally, on all return types, there are a lot of diagnostic messages that can't be cleared and have to be "ignored" which is always sketchy to not be able to clear an "error message". The mapping from QuickBooks is terrible, but that's mainly on the QB side, but the ProConnect team should know and get the QB people on the same page. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. The most helpful aspect of ProConnect Tax is the easy navigation between forms and inputs. The ability to overview the forms in the table of contents and navigate between input and form views is extrememly helpful for efficient tax prep. Additionally, the few times that I've had issues with the forms or diagnostic functions, the customer support team has been immediately available (even in busy seasons) to help. From the foreign tax element perspective, I wish it had better optimization features between Form 2555 and Form 1116. Additionally, I wish the FBAR and Form 8938 Forms were a bit more user friendly in the linking of the two. For example, when linking an 8938 to an FBAR account input, I'd like to see the name of account on 8938 inputs for ease of review, but other than that, it functions very well! The ease of use and all of the excellent tools like tax advisor! I am extremely excited about the client tax portal. I have been doing taxes for 35+ years and the portal this year saved me so much time so that I can focus on my client's tax preparation and obtaining the absolute best return possible. I used to have to send numerous emails requesting documents. In ProConnect I was able to customize the documents requests for each client. What do you dislike about Intuit ProConnect Tax? While Intuit ProConnect offers many valuable tools for tax professionals, the data entry process can be a bit frustrating at times. The interface, although clean, often requires too many clicks to navigate between sections, and entering information across multiple forms isn't as seamless as it should be. Some of the fields are not as intuitive or clearly labeled, and in complex returns, it can take longer than expected to locate the correct input areas. Additionally, manual data entry can feel repetitive, especially when importing from third-party sources is limited or doesn't map correctly. Overall, ProConnect has potential, but improving the data entry workflow and reducing unnecessary steps would make a big difference in speed and user experience. It's easily the best option for web-based professional tax software. It's well designed (with a much nicer UI than pretty much any desktop pro tax software), and it can handle nearly all tax situations. It's particularly good at handling multi-state tax returns. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Intuit ProConnect Tax? It's expensive in general, especially when compared to other options like Drake. And the pricing model is not transparent, and isn't suitable for new tax firms. If you signup with a smaller number of tax returns in your first year, you get forever locked into a pricing formula based on that initial price. So I strongly discourage new tax preparers from using ProConnect until they have at least 50-75 clients to reach the better pricing tiers. It's unfortunate their pricing works this way. It is similar to Lacerte software I used for over 30 years. Some of it is intuitive and some is not. It is very econimical to use, however, compared to Lacerte. And the screens do not become completely visable most of the time, being hidden by other blocks of the software verbiage. You are required to move the bottom bar to see some of the fields.
