We have had issues in the past with orphan screens or corrupt files after crashing. **What problems is UltraTax CS solving and how is that benefiting you?** We don't solve any business problems from UltraTax, but it is our most used program. The benefits of UT include the projection software, user-friendly format, and ability to customize the software and print options. I can't speak for other software in this area, but I have found that we are able to add custom letters, change print collations, and adjust watermarks to what we need. ### 19. EVERYTHING...Support is awful knows absolutely nothing. We are an inhouse tax department and only have to file 1 return for federal and a bunch of states. Let's just say it would have been quicker to do it by hand and using excel. We have to make alot of adjustments for our state returns because we are a partnership and HEAVEN HELP YOU if you have to make adjustments. Buying this software was the biggest mistake. I am basically having to over ride most of the tax return in the form screen. I also, have to reallocate most of the special allocations even though I have the box checked to keep them the same as the federal. Also, waiting forever for anything to download and/or print is insane. I spend so much wasted time waiting on returns to print so I can check them since using the form view does not give you all the statements, etc. Also, paying for useless support.... **What problems is UltraTax CS solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is creating more problems and solving none. Our firm has used Ultratax for over 20 years. **What do you dislike about UltraTax CS?** We switched to the virtual office product at our sales persons recommendation. This was the worst mistake we have ever done. At first it was great, but Thomson Reuters has not taken care of their customers with numerous outages and slow performance. We have missed deadlines and had to send staff home because the Thompson Reuters servers keep going down or have issues. It is time to look for a more reliable vendor. Tax season is 13 weeks of high intensity work. I work in a small accounting firm and during tax season Ultra Tax is our go-to program to file tax returns. There are sometimes issues with it freezing but other than that, no issues. **Recommendations to others considering UltraTax CS:** No recommendations, its a great program that makes filing very quick and easy. The wait time this year during slow season is over an hour (and counting) and will probably be worse during busy season. Being in the service industry we are used to a certain level of goodwill during business related conversations, as well as competence and knowledge, and a wait time that does not waste a greater part of a day. I like that you can go to form mode, right click and take it back to the input mode and it will take you to where this is pulling from. I like the Diagnostics feature as well. **What do you dislike about UltraTax CS?** I think that a “tutorial” could be very helpful for new users. While I use the search/help feature sometimes, however think that this could be more beneficial if synonyms were used to find results. An example of this is when I was looking for the energy efficient car tax credit, but instead of “car” the system had it as “vehicle”, therefore it did not pull up in my search results. I wasted 15 minutes trying to find the entry for this. **What problems is UltraTax CS solving and how is that benefiting you?** The biggest advantages to this program are the amount of time saved and increased accuracy. It has helped me gain a better understanding of more complex tax matters and where they belong on the tax return, and has made it easier to check over work before saving / filing a final copy. The diagnostics that need to be cleared before a return is filed is super helpful to make sure that everything has been checks and open items cleared. It syncs effortlessly with all of the other Thomson Reuters products we have. **What do you dislike about UltraTax CS?** Creating letters, such as the tax organizer letter is so cumbersome. There is no preview feature to see what your letter will look like so you need to go out of the feature, go into a return, print preview a client version, and then take note of the changes. Sometimes, this takes forever to do, especially when you are creating multiple letters at one time. **What problems is UltraTax CS solving and how is that benefiting you?** It has been a much better system for us than our previous system. Easier to use and learn. The integration with all of our other TR products has really helped firm productively overall. ### 34. There have been times when I have had to reach out more than twice to have someone call or email me back regarding something. Additionally, sometimes the CS Connect tool for receiving acknowledgements that returns have been accepted by the IRS can freeze up and requires reopening up the program. Additionally, training is extremely expensive. **Recommendations to others considering UltraTax CS:** This can seem like an outdated software at first glance, but after playing around with it, you will find it's easy to use. Every tax situation is covered within its reach and it is a learnable software that does not have any fluff. **What do you dislike about UltraTax CS?** The system crashes quite a bit when we use the software in the cloud. Often times, the data reference points get deleted and I have had difficulty proforma-ing clients into the 2017 version of UltraTax. However, these have been solved and have never resulted in large amounts of work time lost. **Recommendations to others considering UltraTax CS:** I recommend UltraTax to accountants and CPA firms because of how comprehensive the software is. Once familiar with it, UltraTax becomes a great tool for filing individual and business returns time consciously with ease. **What problems is UltraTax CS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Having UltraTax in our arsenal, we are able to maximize our client's tax refunds and help make projections to our clients to make adequate adjustments to their 2018 taxes in order to be in a responsible financial position. ### 38. We use it where I work for personal, corporate, state and local tax returns. Income input is easy and utilizes a lot of the same formats as the tax documents clients receive. It is a good technology for new users to work with because it is pretty straight forward. There are always updates and the software changes from year to year as they develope feed back. It not only is great for individuals but is just as straight forward for corporations. **What do you dislike about UltraTax CS?** Like any software mistakes are possible and it is ideal that you thoroughly check your work. Knowledge of tax is still necessary as you must check boxes in certain areas for numbers to pull. For example, in the other income section you have to indicate by number code if the income is subject to self employment tax. So must be careful! I learn something new about this software everyday and have been using it for nearly 2 years. This should be able to have a built in feature to access or not. It is easy to see the effects of your entry on the tax return. **What do you dislike about UltraTax CS?** Support this year (TY2016) is HORRIBLE! We left LaCerte because of expense and poor support. Ultratax is now just as expensive and the support is worse. **Recommendations to others considering UltraTax CS:** Look somewhere else. 40+ minute wait times trying to get support is unreasonable. They also only take product improvement suggestions via a web interface that has so many things going on your suggestions get lost in the shuffle. I am really getting the sense that they don't care about me at all. Their cost is really high also. We do tax returns for 20+ states and the PRP costs are killing us. The reporting features are also very limiting. I liked TaxWorks reports and customization a lot better. Sometimes find where to enter data is not very intuitive to me. Of course, I have only been using the product for 4 years. **What problems is UltraTax CS solving and how is that benefiting you?** We prepare tax returns for approximately 1000 clients.
